I dont know whats the fuzz in this. Didnt we forgot that the Bible Says... "The Servants are the greatest" ? The last time I checked 90% of us calls ourselves Christians, and this is the tenet of what it is to be one. Let's just instill in our hearts and minds that the last shall be the first and the first shall be the last.

I am actually doing it now on a small scale where I send money for projects in my elementary school where I came from as well as send money for my former high school for scholars. Also, I am talking to the local university here to get surplus used books to donate to the Phil. schools so I am doing it on smaller scale than what I would really like too. Also Gawad Kalinga is here and I do donate on a voluntary basis. Thanks for the website you recommended. I will look it up for sure.

Good for you Rosa.

Bottom line, you had self-esteem that allowed you to rise above the shallown reactions to this "nation of servants" brouhaha.

More than wishing you luck - I say do it now - does not have to be grandiose.

There's a low-key group in NE Florida -Move On Philippines - www.moveonphil.org - check it out. maybe, you can collaborate.

Bong V,
There are many of us here who have gone through same route, came here as nannies but did all the necessary things to improve our lot in life, then took risk and started their own businesses or even just work plain hard. One thing that I observe is that they are able to blend in and just do their thing quietly. In downtown Calgary, there are so many respected Filipinos. I spoke to one recruitment agency and they said that Filpino accountancy is the third hardest to pass in the world and many of them work in the major oilpatch offices. In Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal, Filipinos have made their mark. If not the first generation, the second generation even more so. I have met a lot of masteral students, engineering students, doctors to be etc. I think the Filipino spirit is still there. Also, I wish our Filipino educational bureaucracy make our length or years of education similar to the Western equivalent.
Here, they go from Gr. 1 - 7, 3 years of Junior high before going to another 3 years of senior high. I know it will cost but it is one criticism that I hear over and over again about why they do not put too much weight on our Phil. credentials.

If ever I get really blessed, I plan to sponsor an orphanage or similar projects or even do a bit of teaching in Phil. Wish me luck!!!

She threatened to deport me but I stood my ground and even shouted at her not to abuse me anymore. 30 years later, I have upgraded my education, have lots of business endeavours, have even white people renting my houses and sponsored truckloads of relatives here. Moral of the story, magsumikap tayong lahat and do not let anyone distract you from your goal and do not let anyone abuse you. I am not against the Chinese since I have lots of Chinese friends and we could learn a lot from them especially their ambitiousness and work ethic.
