A glorious day at last

“All she wanted was a warm bed, a loving family, a few kind words and unlimited power.”—Inspired by a quote from Ashleigh Brilliant

Today is the day we have all been waiting for. Today, at long last, the nation can move on, as far away as possible, from the utterly corrupt world that Gloria Arroyo created.

Today we inaugurate a legitimately elected President. A lot of hopes are riding on him, let us pray he does not disappoint.

Today I will not be a know-it-all and bother you with all sorts of analytical punditry about the past and what the future holds for the incoming President. You can watch the inauguration in peace.

Or you can go and enjoy the holiday if you really don’t care about ceremonies marking transitions of power.

I hope you have a great day. I know I will, especially when I see Gloria wave goodbye and drive away.

Good riddance, Gloria! WHOOO-PEEEEE!

Author’s note: I have dreamed of writing this piece for many, many years: short and sweet for a wait that was long and bitter. At last, at long last, we have a President!

    MB,

There is poetic irony that she will now retreat to what was once a dumpsite (and obviously, still is now more than ever).

While not as ironic but poetic as well, there will now be a Benigno Aquino in the place where he once aspired to but was cut down as he stepped on Philippine soil.

It is indeed a resplendant day. As Hannibal Smith used to say, “I love it when a plans comes together”.

    Congratulations to this great country.

    Regards,
    Dean

Maraming OFW’s na magiging mas desedidong mag-re-retire sa Pilipinas kung maiwasto ni Noynoy ang patakbo sa Pilipinas.

Philstar reported that yesterday afternoon, Supreme Court Associate Justice Diosdado Peralta conducted the office oath-taking for BongBong Marcos and Imelda Marcos.

Mrs. Marcos vowed to support the administration of president-elect Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, son of their former political rival. “Anything good for the Filipino people, I am there – committed, supportive,” she said.

About constitutional amendments, Imelda Marcos said, “I will see what kind of change. I don’t like change just for the sake of change, but for the good and for the better of the country and for what is correct and right, I’ll be there.”

Arroyo files bill calling for Charter change

By Leila B. Salaverria Philippine Daily Inquirer, Agence France-Presse
First Posted 14:13:00 07/01/2010MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATE) Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo began her first day as a lawmaker by attempting to resurrect Charter change. Arroyo and her son, Camarines Sur Representative Diosdado Arroyo, co-authored House Resolution 8 which calls for a constitutional convention to propose amendments to or the revision of the 1987 Constitution.

Arroyo also filed a bill to protect all species of sharks and rays in the country, and co-authored seven other bills with her son.

Arroyo’s successor, Benigno Aquino III, played down the Charter change initiative, saying she did not have the support in parliament to succeed. “The filing of the Charter change [resolution] is not a threat as far as we are concerned,” Aquino’s spokesman Edwin Lacierda told reporters.

If the Cha-Cha people hope to gain any momentum for this advocacy at all, they will be well advised that Gloria Pidal is not the best person to do the trumpeting for them.

Get somebody with credibility. Somebody who is not a cheater, a liar, a magnanakaw and a power hungry rodent b*tch.

Iloilo Representative Janette Garin echoed that Aquino’s commitment to curb corruption is something that the people have been wanting. But she said that “it can’t be done overnight, it entails much political will, hard work, and perseverance.” “I admire his call to curb corruption, but it should be spread across all sectors, regardless of political affiliation,” Garin said.

Cavite Representative Elpidio Barzaga Jr. said Aquino hit it right when he focused on fighting corruption and the swift administration of justice, but said that these should be side-by-side with the delivery of basic services to the people. A former mayor, Barzaga said the people would want to know on the immediate what the administration can do so they will always have food on the table, jobs, shelter, and basic health services.

Bayan Muna partylist Representative Teodoro Casino also observed that Aquino’s economic policies “appear nebulous and appear to be the same, old neo-liberal agenda.” He added he was disappointed not hearing Aquino mention land reform and many social justice issues. “(President) Noynoy’s speech Noynoy’s speech was an interesting mix of populist rhetoric and general policy pronouncements. His strong statements on ensuring justice to be meted erring officials of the previous administration and on instilling good governance are exciting and most welcome. We hope his administration delivers on this,” Casino said.

Representative Luz Ilagan of the party-list Gabriela said what Aquino said “catered to the hopes of the long-suffering Filipinos.” “But the speech sounded a bit smug. I wanted to hear the release of political prisoners, which was the first thing Cory did,” she said, adding that her husband was among the first to be released in 1986 when Aquino’s mother, Corazon Aquino, made the release of political prisoners as one of her first official acts in assuming office.

“RH (reproductive health) was not mentioned. Was it because the prelates were there? Was the failure to acknowledge Corona deliberate?” Ilagan added.
