Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales will never let Gloria Arroyo down. Upon hearing about President Aquino’s truth commission, he said, “Why not submit all presidents because maybe there are many other presidents who have sinned against the country since Marcos. It is only right that those who broke the law should be meted punishment to set a lesson. But it should cover everyone and not just one.”
Well, okay Archbishop Cardinal, let’s submit all the presidents since Marcos to the truth commission. We have to be fair to you know who, right?
So, in fairness to the one who shall remain unnamed, do you want to exhume Cory Aquino and haul her body before the truth commission? What about Joseph Estrada? But he can’t be punished anymore. The unnamed one already pardoned him. Fidel Ramos, do you want to bring him before the truth commission? That’s about all the “many other presidents” I can think of. Oh, I forgot Noynoy, has he sinned against the country already?
At least the Cardinal is consistent. He has never wavered from the belief that Gloria can be excused for corruption and human rights violations because everyone is guilty of it anyway.
When extra-judicial killings became rampant he said, “What is happening in the Arroyo regime today is so tiny it is a mere speck of the human-rights abuses committed then under Marcos.” Why be bothered by the small stuff, right?
When the public was up in arms about Gloria Arroyo’s cover-ups, he said, “What I’m worried about is the truth. The truth is GMA is not the only president linked to corruption. There are bigger, bigger fishes. That is why I’m interested in the whole truth. This is only piecemeal.” Cardinal, show us the whales and we will set the minnow free.
Speaking of the whole truth, maybe Cardinal Rosales can propose a truth commission to put closure on suspicions that many of his colleagues where on GMA’s payroll. Isn’t it time f the Church to came clean and revealed exactly who were the bishops who accepted money and meals from Malacanan when they met to discuss the Church’s stand on Gloria Arroyo’s impeachment? What do you say, Cardinal?

The moral compass of this despicable cardinal is not calibrated to point the true north.
MB,
The ‘good’ Cardinal’s view reflects the long known aberration that Gloria had her own panhandling diocese within the CBCP.
Cardinal Jaime Sin is rolling in his grave…..
Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales says he and his bishops will celebrate for the first time a Red Mass on Thursday to “cast off political divisions” and unite the country. The Red Mass dates back to the Middle Ages, marking the descent of the Holy Spirit on Christ’s apostles. It is called so because the celebrators wear red vestments symbolizing the tongues of fire that descended on the apostles and gave them divine wisdom. “It’s for guidance. The Holy Spirit is being invoked to enlighten those who will govern.” The invitees are P-Noy, V-Nay and the top officials of the three branches of government.

Let me share this quote: “One of the chief lessons which Rizal had learnt in Europe was that a priest-ridden nation is a nation bound over hand and foot to degeneration and decay, and many of his writings were directed against this unwholesome influence, which nowhere has had such pernicious effects as in the Philippines.” – Younghusband.
Great blog home Sir!
Just as Josef Ratzinger is the perfect pope to preside over the incremental collapse of the Catholic Empire, Gaudencio Rosales is the perfect cardinal to preside over the incremental diminution of the Catholic Vassalage in this part of the world.
Conrado de Quiros’s latest op-ed article “Stop the Killings” is in response to the death (from two gunshot wounds, one in the head and one in the neck) of Fernando Baldomero, 61, of Kalibo, Aklan. Conrado de Quiros calls for the arrest of Archie Integan, SJ (along with Norberto Gonzales, Jovito Palparan and GMA).
I wonder how the CBCP will respond if Justice Secretary de Lima were to send the police to arrest Priest Integan? But that hypothetical question has to be set aside. What is first needed (hopefully it happens in 2011) is for Noynoy Administration to spearhead a Truth Commission about media- and activists-killings.
I am of many minds on this matter. Why can’t we just allow our regular institutions to take care of those issues? Truth Commission, the word “truth” alone is an all-encompassing word and the list of scandals involving exPres GMA itself is sooo long; what part of the truth are we interested in?
Yet it is also true that there are so many issues in the past, outside GMAs, that need closure as well. Like, is Aguinaldo really a hero? Of particular interest to me for one is who masterminded the killing of Ninoy, the President’s father. And many more. What about the truth about… ahem, Hacienda Luisita?
Yet, take up all those issues and you are sure to dissipate the attention on GMAs misdeeds. Before long, NBN-ZTE is all but forgotten.
Politics is a bitch, isn’t it?
By the way MB, how do you feel about Davide heading the Truth Commish?
For so long have clerics gotten away with murder in this country it’s time to take them to task. It is not just governors who owe the governed their protection, it’s also the moralists who owe the faithful their morality. The bishops may not lie beyond the judgment of politics, not least when they indulge in politics, and not least when they perpetuate oppression. Certainly, they may not lie beyond the judgment of morality, not least when they justify cheating by saying “everybody cheats anyway,” and not least when they excuse spiritual death by saying “life goes on.”
