After 8 Days of having declared Martial Law in the province of Maguindanao, President Arroyo has saw it fit to officially lift Martial Law last night, Saturday.
During an emergency meeting, it was finally decided that Martial Law had served its purpose, and the decision was made after the hour long meeting.
Despite having lifted Martial Law, the Supreme Court will still hear the 7 petitions filed questioning the legality and seeking the lifting of Proclamation 1959 which is the official proclamation implementing Martial Law in the province of Maguindanao.
The Speaker of The House Nograles, and Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, indicated that the joint session of both houses more than likely move to adjourn the session altogether, stating that it was no longer needed since Martial Law had already been lifted.
The joint session of congress was suspended on Friday, and is scheduled to open again on Monday.
Others have conveyed deep concern that this was a mere trial balloon, that the Executive Branch had successfully instituted Martial Law without the oversight that was needed. But The Military has insisted that because they have restored the rule of law, filed cases of murder, rebellion, as well as sent many cases to the Department of Justice, that Martial Law had been successfully implemented but will no longer be needed because it had already done what it was meant to do.

So what happened to the doomsday prophets who predicted that GMA will place Manila or even the entire country under martial so she can tinker with the Constitution and extend her reign as President/Prime Minister?
JCC, that would be way too blatant wouldn’t it? Last I’ve observed, President has always been able to push envelope, but also able to think long term.. And plus, going to Copenhagen, ML on the backburner would not be justified..
In any case, Arroyo wants international community approval for extension, I assume, and the only way to do this, is to go the route of shift by means of at least a ConAss.. I think, the end game has just begun..
Although, however we feel about Arroyo, I do give her credit for being politically savvy enough to always keep opposition on their toes, and always guessing.. that’s the one thing I have to hand her.
This is what I like with political pundits, they are always correct. They predicted that GMA will extend her reign through Martial Law/Conass but when nothing of the sorts happenened they see the something else, like she needed a rating boost abroad and therefore she has to lift martial law.
How about this for simplicity. She was upset that the muslim warlords were rampaging in Maguindanao and her advisers told her to impose it so the strong arm of the law can put those perpetrators behind bar. Another advise was given after these “suspected criminals” were rounded-up and that she does not need martial law anymore and she could lift which she did. Is there a logical basis for this analysis?
No, the pundits would say that ML was imposed to she can favor her former allies, the Ampatuans.
Our fertile imagination had concocted a lot of scenarios about this simple “police work” and where subsequent events did not pan out the way we predicted it, we look at GMA as an accomplished political savvy of being able to make her opponents guessing on her moves. Heck No! She was simply endowed with a little of common sense.
Manoy Jose, nothing will happen to them because GMA backed off. If GMA persisted with that foolish plan, I’m sure something will happen to those doomsday prophets.

Now, given the power to manipulate Congress and the Senate. She now, has full control of the situation(s). To govern the Congress and Senate, rather than achieving sound advice(s) from congressional seats also, to the senate committee. For now, our judiciary systems is out of the loop, and not adhering to the consequences that has taken place. To applying the Laws to mandate to the people. Who suffer a tremendous blow to their personal lives. HELLO!
