AKO MISMO. A Skeptic’s View
May 7th, 2009 by Nick
AKO MISMO made its official debut during the Pacquiao Hatton fight. AKO MISMO is a cool website that urges readers to pledge one small thing that they can do to improve the nation. In the different social networks online, there was an immediate buzz, and along with that buzz were rumors that this could possibly be the jumping off point of a political campaign.
As of this writing there has been 70,432 pledges at the AKO MISMO website.
I can understand the simple message of AKO MISMO, but I know that we are a nation of skeptics, after all the things we’ve been through as a nation, being had by almost every politician that has come our way, why wouldn’t we have a sense of skepticism? Especially of a website that has had that air of secrecy about it since its launch.
Marketing is marketing however, and the buzz surrounding AKO MISMO is already getting traction, but they will lose a lot if they don’t realize the audience that they are catering to. This is an audience, as I have said earlier, that will be skeptical. And if a marketing campaign that seems socially and politically driven does not have the transparency of which is needed in this politically charged climate that we find ourselves in, then it may have gotten traction, but it shall not be effective.
Change most definitely must start from within ourselves first, and it is definitely true that we can start that change by taking small but positive steps in our own daily lives. By pledging to do an activity, any activity, that will contribute to the progress of our nation, it provides each citizen the needed realization that power can still come from the citizenry, and not necessarily from government or the powerful alone.
But AKO MISMO plays on our hopes, on our rabid obsession with celebrities, even if not all of their endorsers are from the celebrity world, let’s face it, they are popular, and this is exactly why they were chosen.
I don’t want to do a John McCain and tell you that HOPE is but a blank promise, because I do believe that HOPE is so much more. But if AKO MISMO is going to do us any good, then let’s wait and see for the concrete steps that will be needed to make this skeptic a believer.
But if this is indeed, just an advertising campaign, or the start of a political campaign, or just a big old grand scheme to get personal info, then they had better change trajectory quick. Because if they do pursue such avenues, the skeptics may turn into a mob of disbelievers, and once again there will have been sown more skepticism in a nation already filled with skeptics.
I have some cynical idea though that those behind AKO MISMO may have had alterior motives, but since there have been some skepticism and negativity because of the possibitility of this being a commercialization and playing on the hopes of Filipinos, this campaign may still push forward as a viable campaign, only to prove detractors wrong, and to navigate away from the negative press that would ensue. Whether or not if the original goal of AKO MISMO was for commercial or political means, one thing can be sure, that if it is indeed anything except what their website claims as being a mode for volunteerism, then it will be met with much pushback.
We don’t need any more commercialization of our need to move forward and progress as a nation. We don’t need any more commercialization because as it is, we are inundated with enough of it. Even as campaign season has not even started, we are bombarded with commercials, billboards, and so called public service ads, meant to convey to citizens and potential voters that,
“hey this isn’t advertisement, I am making this commercial just for you, this is not, and I repeat, not a political ad, now please buy this product while I get some air time, but hey, this is not a political ad, but if you do remember this ad, remember to vote for me, or buy this product, or both!”
Look, I am ready to embrace this movement or campaign, heck that dogtag seems a bit cool too. But the skeptic and cynic in me is holding me back, and as responsible citizens, let’s just wait a minute. If this is indeed for positive change, I’m sure a positive Philippine future also includes discerning citizens too. And discerning citizens will always need more information.
So, okay, AKO MISMO now has this FAQ PAGE
Q: What are the future activities of Ako Mismo beyond creating awareness? Where will you take the movement?
A: We hope to engage more companies in the movement and organize and/or support socio-civic activities in pockets all over the country, guided by the information we receive online about the causes that resonate most consistently among the most number of people. And God-willing, if we are able to raise enough funds through all our activities, we will partner with established and respected socio-civic and charitable organizations that have the infrastructure to reach out to and help the most number of people nationwide. We are in the process of evaluating this now. This is the long view, where we hope to take Ako Mismo in the future. But every worthy endeavor must start with small steps, and right now our focus is on keeping the momentum for Ako Mismo as we all proclaim—change starts with me!
And I can understand this, because even here at Filipino Voices, we have yet to formally launch our advocacy section for FV, and indeed it does take a whole lot of planning. And so, the most fair observation is that they have indeed launched a campaign without fully preparing for its expansion. But then again, I can remember Obama starting out the same way, and quickly developing his in depth platform on health care, foreign policy, and economic policy, etc.
Maybe AKO MISMO will indeed be a platform for a greater participation of the citizenry to take small steps towards prosperity. I for one will reserve my full judgment and full opinion on this matter for a later date. For now, I shall give AKO MISMO that chance it deserves, and will hold down the skeptic and cynic in me for the meantime.

We are a nation of “Ningas Cogon”. Some causes had been initiated
in the past. In the middle of the fight. They died a natural death.
If the “Ako Mismo” will have the same fate. Then, it will just be
on the wayside like previous projects started, then abandoned. The trouble on this is: if they use it as a jumping board by some politicians looking for 2010 Presidency. We all watch and see…

off topic:
Will any one here in FV post a thread regarding Judge Jorge Lorredo of the Manila Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 26 ordering the transfer of Jun Lozada to the custody of the Senate?
It’s nowhere anywhere in any MSM, but I think the full content of the order is quite explosive. Could there be a gag order from somebody not to publish it on the MSM?
May 8, 2009 at 4:42 am
ellen tordesillas blogged where she got the news yesterday.
meanwhile, here are pics of the senate resolution…

reading what’s supposed to be the “decision” of this judge, i really am glad i’m not litigating cases in the philippines. it’s this kind of “jurisprudence” that gives the philippine judiciary a bad name. with all due respect to the office he is occupying, this man should have no place to sit in judgment in a court of law. i think he could fit in better in congress or the senate where he can say anything he wants as a matter of legislative privilege.
May 9, 2009 at 5:21 am
Some gag order?…from whom?
May 9, 2009 at 9:03 am
what “gag order”, tasio? a court decision is not an issue of freedom of speech. it must be based solely on law and evidence, not a judge’s personal opinion.
May 9, 2009 at 1:55 pm
Manoy Bencard, it’s good you’re not in RP. With such comment, aren’t you exposing yourself to perjury (or any such tning) and might be summoned to the judge’s office?
May 9, 2009 at 11:11 pm
now, bert. i don’t think r.p. is ruled by one trial court judge. in any event, summoned for what (obviously, you don’t know the meaning of “perjury”)? criticism of a judge’s decision, by anyone, lawyer or not, is a fundamental right.

Nick:
Barely replied to JCC on a Proposed Project Plan between 5/6/2009 to 2010 – seems like a group out there isn’t blogging (has taken Step #1 of the Project Plan – that’s concurrence NOT plagiarization) .
You have choices if you don’t trust AKO MISMO:
* you can organize your own group and work to achieve the same ends.
* keep on blogging
* Or you can do nothing.
Obviously, each action will have different results.
The choice is yours. You can be the news maker, be the news writer be, the news reader, be the news commentator.
May 8, 2009 at 1:04 am
Don’t be scammed, Nick, and you all people out there. 70,432 pledges is impossible to comprehend considering FV and pekeng-columnistas blogs and ordinary blogs only have an average of 15 regular inter-active readers. If anyone cares to count blogrolls, they are still the same usual 15 regular inter-active suspects.
70,432 pledges is equal to 70,432 hits between Manny-Hatton fight to today. IMPOSSIBLE! I don’t think FV has 70,432 hits in two weeks time!. This is a spin. The BUZZ that Nick was talking about could be a spin, too.
Flips are not the pledger types. That is for sure! ASK BongV, HE IS IN THE THICK OF IT!
The pledger types, if ever they pledge at all, are in their mids-to-retard-dying ages, employed, nationalist and patriotic who has difficulty in navigating internet nor searching for clues in Google. The younger ones are tech-savvy Friendster-Youtube-social network types. They don’t care about our politics and mostly they are unemployables or jobless or don’t-care-attitude OFW-dependents. The reason they can afford computers and fast connection.
The pledgers could not have come from America. Flip-Ams are fully aware of the corruption at Flipsides because of glaring contrast between secular America and religious Flipside. So they don’t care, too! They’d rather remit their money to Flip relatives than pledge to nowhere-comedome. Flip-Ams also know that politics in Flipsidde is down-and-dirty. So they don’t care at all. Therefore, they don’t pledge.
Nick has been in America for a long time. He doesn’t know Flipside anymore.
Flip has conformity problem, too! They don’t want to change individually if others don’t change first. It’s about the chicken and the egg. EVERYONE IS WAITING FOR OTHERS TO CHANGE SO NOTHING CHANGE BECAUSE INDIVIDUALLY WE ARE WAITING FOR OTHERS TO CHANGE

It can be a Jumpimg Board for any person who intend to run for
public office by 2010. We still watch and see what happen…
May 8, 2009 at 5:44 am
Nick has a dream. Nick wanted to be a politician here in the Flipland. This is his jumping board like Ako Mismo …
May 8, 2009 at 9:59 am
lol, thanks for the endorsement Renato, but you do know that you can be involved in the political process even if you don’t become a politician right?
I mean, this is what FV is all about, creating awareness on the issues.
I do believe what AKO MISMO is trying to do, for people to take personal responsibility, and it is commendable indeed. I’m just throwing caution to the wind, that’s all.
May 8, 2009 at 1:22 am

The pledgers are not for real … they are made by Manny Pangilinian and his spinmeisters …
Wherever you go in the Flipside, when they speakengese in pubic they speakengese in goot country club englischtzes ….

In other words, it works on an audience of starstruck ignoramuses. :D
Read Rom’s feature on one of the Akomismo’s nymphets (Maxine, i think it is) who broke her silence in the face of all the criticism the site is copping. The picture is nice to look at is all I can say. :D
May 8, 2009 at 5:42 am
benign0, benign0, benign0 … You just knew by now that Flips are nothing but starstruck ignoramuses? Why would comedians become public office holder without the help of ignoramuses?
May 8, 2009 at 5:49 am
rom’s problem is somewhat different. she dismisses the basic premise of the movement as useless. she also worries about the use of the information to some dastardly end (which i’m not sure what she means/sees)
she also put in a snide remark about maxine’s lack of knowledge of “hardship”. thats harsh… didn’t her dad just die?
May 8, 2009 at 10:01 am
I think you also have to take into context the entire article of hers, and realize that she does want to believe… I think it’s good to have a healthy dose of skepticism.. I sincerely hope to be proven wrong, I really do.

yes, getting your idealism dashed is a danger, depending on the privacy policy.
so, the key question is: does it promise not to share it with commerical vendors or political parties?
i read somewhere where they excuse themselves from liability from MISUSE of the information (phone number, address, etc).
but this is a standard clause right?

The existence of fraud is not a reason to throw caution to the wind and become irresponsible. In fact, with fraud, one needs to exercise a little bit more of due diligence – that’s a personal responsibility .
Exercise personal responsibility to find out if it is a scheme or not.
If it is a scheme for a candidate, then don’t join the organization.
But, continue to remain personally responsible for one’s choices… or it will be..
Same old shit, different day.
May 8, 2009 at 11:12 am
If their intention was to get “personal info” then they’ll get it from gung-gong Filipino “pledgers”. These so-called “pledgers” would not even give their personal info in Yahoo! Gmail Twitter Friendster accounts unless they are totally clueless and bunch of ignoramuses.
My nephews and nieces who are underage wouldn’t even give it.
So “personal info” is out of the question unless they totally believe that Filipinos are just plain low-iQ.
May 9, 2009 at 5:19 am
They get your personal info, so that they can sell you something…
May 8, 2009 at 5:39 am
Flips don’t make pledges. They do friendster and Youtube social network sing-alongs. Yet, it’s good we have a thread like this to hang-out waiting for next thread.
May 9, 2009 at 5:18 am
We pledge everything, including our third feets…
May 8, 2009 at 6:58 am
2 cents worth:
if the words AKO MISMO get into the awareness,
constant repetition can prime the process of introspection of what AKO MISMO stands for.
the danger lies in equating AKO MISMO the mindset and AKO MISMO the organization
if the organization has a misstep or stumbles, detractors will equivocate and allege that AKO MISMO the mindset has failed, when in fact it is the organization as a personality/celebrity that has stumbled.
AKO MISMO – taking personal responsibility -, the mindset, is an ideal which AKO MISMO – the organization aspires to.
The organization is fresh and young, the mindset is not and goes all the way back to the cradle of ancient democracy, to that of modern democracy. A mindset that eludes a large number of our countrymen.
As of 2007, according to the NSCB, there were 45,029,443 registered voters out of a population (as of Aug 1, 2007) of 88,542,991 or 50% of the total population are registered voters.
In the previous election, the most number of votes was 16 million or 36% of the total registered voters – that’s not even a popular majority – short of 6,514,723 votes from an actual popular majority of 22,514,722.
If we further compare the highest number of votes – 16M against the total population of 88M implies that only 18% of the total population decides how the rest of the 82% live. No wonder so many sectors of society are alienated.
Given 70,000 pledges – NOT volunteers – the organization still has a long way to go. And if AKO MISMO does walk its talk, about the mindset of personal responsibility by all means, support it, why not? But if the contrary holds, one can say NO to the organization and still say YES to the mindset.
May 8, 2009 at 7:10 am
WoW! In 1994, the pop was 64M. It grew to 89M by end 2007. Extrapolating the numbers 25,000,000 Flips or 28% are <= 13-years-old. DANG! 50% of 89M are registered voters! So, 22% are not registered either because they are not interested or they have not reached 18-years-old yet.
Those 70,000 pledges in two weeks time is beyond my comprehension. I wish Nick would provide us the many hits of FV between Manny-Hatton and today …
Filipinos are not the kind who run to their computer and pledge just because they saw it on TV … SOMETHING IS WRONG HERE. NICK BEEN HAD ……
May 8, 2009 at 10:07 am
the extrapolation would be correct only if no one died..
May 8, 2009 at 11:17 am
Of course, Nick, there cannot be 22% dead out of 89,000,000. If deaths were considered it would in the 1% arena

May 8, 2009 at 9:05 am
Ako Mismo is most appealing to the youth or those who would rather hope than despair. Who would rather do something than do nothing. It is not about the movement per se but taking personal responsibility for ourselves of which I support even before this movement came about. One doesn’t even have to sign up at their site to believe in Ako Mismo.
May 8, 2009 at 9:26 am
Appealing? On what angle? Because there are celebrities who appeared on the TV to bolster this commercialized social advocacy?? Then youth of today must be abysmally oblivious of what’s happening to our nation..
I got curious of the site, popped up was just the entry point of what you will do for the good of the country.. Isn’t that very much intriguing?? After that, what’s next??
May 8, 2009 at 11:56 am
not the celebrities. It is the concept of Ako Mismo of taking charge of things that you can change.
Which reminds me, we should all pray the Serenity Prayer.
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
May 8, 2009 at 10:06 am
I very much agree Noemi, which is why I said that I truly love the message and its aims. I throw caution to the wind only because of the skeptic in me, the political season we are in, and the initial lack of transparency of the site..
But, I sincerely wish to be proven wrong, and I can only hope the best for this campaign, if indeed it will reach the hearts and minds of the youth, the apathetic, then more power indeed..
May 8, 2009 at 11:20 am
We need more than caution. It’s a scam. Read my post below … IT’S A BIG IMPOSIBLE!!!!
May 8, 2009 at 11:20 am
The 72,000 “pledgers” numbers is suspect. Netizens, most particularly Filipinos, don’t post in tangalog. They post in englsichtzes. Nearly 95%, based on my random sampling, speakengese in tangalog.
Another suspect is 72,000 “pledgers” in the two weeks of its launch?
I wonder if FV or your blog ever reached 72,000 hits in two weeks. I doubt.
May 8, 2009 at 11:58 am
those are pledges not pledgers. Each pledger can post a number of AKO MISMO commitment
May 8, 2009 at 5:40 pm
hi mom,
true i agree with you on the Youth. The youth are mostly in school, public or private. Legislation and policymaking thru Department of Education may be an easier target as an INITIATIVE BODY for Youth awareness. The Department of Education can be required to do like what ” ako mismo” is advocating.
The chances of success in making the youth engage in ” ako Mismo” is greater if they are targetted directly. Launching it Nationwide thru DEP-ED can be the easiest and cost effective thing to do. This way the children of Mang Juan and Pedro can get involve.
It’s frustrating to think that our own policymakers lack the vision.
May 8, 2009 at 8:23 pm
It’s frustrating to think that our own policymakers lack the vision.
YOU, put them there in the first place – it’s frustrating to think that leytenia keeps lacks the ability to select policymakers with a vision.

Haller. Civics and personal responsibility, is part of Araling Panlipunan/Social Studies.
We had it in our high school and elementary days – civics is no longer taught nowadays?
Lahat na lang e, pasa sa gobyerno – that now becomes GOBYERNO NA LANG, not AKO MISMO.

We cannot change, those Filipino Politicians who are thieves,
plunderers, scammers, etc…We accept them?
May 8, 2009 at 9:29 am
Ako Mismo can be the “bisdak” of “I will do it myself” or ” i can be personally responsible”. Sure why not but still Mang Juan cannot climb the guava fruit. Climbing in economic and financial sense is to have food on the table, money for children’s education, stable jobs, maintaining health. These are not HOPE but the reality of Mang Juan’s hardship. In this case, I will agree with Smoke. Hardship can only be supplemented by government support, skills, opportunities around, available supply of real property, education on how to climb the guava fruit…
Ako Mismo is a website with a strong advocacy to Fight for Apathy. Sure I like that. But it must reach that many mang juans who live in the barrios and cities who are suffering from hardships.
Why not “Ako Mismo” network or be partner with the media, entertainment and any advertising company for awareness. Publish a good story out there that many will be interested. Why not copy
Indonesian sex workers enlisted to fight voter apathy Pinoys are good in copying anyway :)
If its for good cause, we should support the effort at least. In my own assessment, the people who joined are middle income earners who have extra time and stamina during the day to help and reach out.
How about Mang Juan with empty stomach with low self esteemed? How do you approach Mang Juan in a manner he can accept?
Here in the US, I have observed RECENTLY that many rich people may not be so focused with their material world. I have noticed a trend of successful people setting up a foundation of some sort to help the needy and its becoming obvious that the foundation is status quo. An accessory to their materialistic world that may provide balance for humanity. One rich woman said, it is also my “bling bling”
Is our pinoy rich have reached that level where helping people becomes their bling bling?
May 8, 2009 at 11:23 am
Aber, ikaw mismo, Leytenian. Do you post in bisdak or tangalog? YA’LL PREFER ENGLISCHTZES!!!! Those who are tech savvy to navigate to AKO MISMO site are “educated” and when they post they speakengese goot country club englischtzes.
72,000 hits in two weeks? Ano? Sino ba ang ini-ilad nila? Please, Leytenian, don’t get carried away … ayaw pagkauwaw sa mga bisdak kay ang kadaghanan nga na-a sa blogs ra ba uroy mga Bisdak! Maihap lang ang mga tangalog.
May 8, 2009 at 5:10 pm
i never get carried away Renato. I did say I will support the effort but I didn’t say I will register and join. I have no time for “ako mismo”. The site may only have a short cycle within a certain market of pinoys. It’s not my cup of tea. And what is english “spaka” has to do with people’s preference in communication?
The vision of “ako mismo” is common among middle income pinoy. It is not extraordinary except the site is TOO cool and too RED which may not be ENTIRELY and completely PINOY. It’s only a site. That’s all there is to it. If it makes mistake one time, it will be gone for good.
This country is ready for something extraordinary. Think better mga pinoys while i am the comfort of my home. :)

jcc: so you can make the people cluey by blogging?
NO. i don’t think blogging will do much – you are already preaching to the choir. i will go out on a limb that there is near unanimity among Pinoy bloggers and netizens that positive change is needed in the PI.
know your target audience – and craft a solution customized to your target audience
your target audience:
* does not have access to a computer
* can barely afford to pay the electric bills
* all his/her time is spent earning a living
* has access to TV, Radio
* seldom reads the Newspaper
* is highly influenced by the Church, and celebrities
target audience and delivery channel
given such a profile – you can blog till the cows come home – but if your message is not going through the delivery channels that can reach your target audience, you might as well be talking to a blank wall or pissing against the sky.
administration lifecycles and elections
every administration has a beginning and an end. every cycle we are given a chance, to choose, and make a decision.
therefore, the pitch to make people cluey comes before and after each cycle. education and learning is a continuous lifelong process.
Sample Action Plan Outline – 05/06/2009 to 2010
For example, from this moment (05/06/2009) on:
1. Pinoy bloggers agree to craft a sustained media plan till 2010 and theme
* TV
* radio
* comics
* newspaper
2. Topics will be the ones we are discussing on FV
3. Format will vary per media
* TV – block time show; ads – one season ala Bill Maher panel interview
* radio – block time show; ads
* comics – stories like “Rap the korup” in the genre of “Asiong Aksaya”
* newspaper – ads; collaboration with other groups
4. Fundraising activities to support the media campaign activities (until 2010)
* Dinner for a cause
* Concert for a cause
* Car wash for a cause
* Garage sale for a cause
* Dance for a cause
* Bingo for a cause

AKO MISMO beat the blogosphere’s putak putal putak in achieving Action Item No. 1.
Meanwhile, Pinoy blogosphere is… putak putak putak putak putak

May 9, 2009 at 10:09 pm
“it’s obvious that the foundation is a status quo”.
the words “status quo” are out of sync in your sentence, leytenean. are you sure that’s the concept you want to convey, or you are using latin terms that you don’t know the meaning of? ba’t hindi mo na lang bisaya-in?
May 8, 2009 at 10:02 am
where’s bong , the author of ” how how the carabao”. You do need to join AKO Mismo and tell all your neighbors to vote for the right person.
But why go by “AKO Mismo” concept if we can implement education and provide HOPE thru legislation? For example: instead of Bong will do ” ako Mismo” to educate his own neighbors to vote for the right person, why not have COMELEC add another function and duty where the majority can be educated AT ONCE about voting rights and voting properly. Legislation can ALWAYS implement and require all barangay kapitanM, mayors, and everybody in government service to do ” Ako Mismo” concept. The question then, can they do IT “AKO MISMO”? why is it again at the expense of the people? what is the their purpose?
To fight for apathy requires teamwork approach but the INITIATIVE must come from those who are EXPECTED with LEGAL DUTY to perform ESPECIALLY if food on the table comes from the money paid byt the people thru taxation.
This “AKO Mismo” concept would supplement and support. Like an ENHANCER to the “INITIATIVE” by those who are in office.
If public personnel continue to diminish its purpose to INITIATE and IMPLEMENT , the outcome of “AKO Mismo” can be an activist???
May 8, 2009 at 1:05 pm
what does ” implement education and provide HOPE thru legislation” mean? what law do you envision?
May 9, 2009 at 5:12 am
The Law of each man for himself. Filipino Politicians follow
that law…
May 8, 2009 at 8:37 pm
where’s bong , the author of ” how how the carabao”. You do need to join AKO Mismo and tell all your neighbors to vote for the right person.
you have to join “Ako Mismo” to tell all your neighbors to vote for the right person???
sweetheart, been doing that for 24 years – karon ka lang?
To fight for apathy requires teamwork approach but the INITIATIVE must come from those who are EXPECTED with LEGAL DUTY to perform ESPECIALLY if food on the table comes from the money paid byt the people thru taxation.
INITIATIVE is from someone else? someone else must be responsible for your “personal responsibility” – my my my how profound. :D
Legislation can ALWAYS implement and require all barangay kapitanM, mayors, and everybody in government service to do ” Ako Mismo” concept.
Barangay kapitanM, mayors, and everybody in government service – are already doing AKO MISMO:
* AKO MISMO ang nanakaw ng pera
* AKO MISMO ang mag-siswitch ng ballots in favor of the administration
* AKO MISMO ang boboto ng “NO” to filing impeachment against Gloria
* AKO MISMO ang uutos na barilin ang aking political enemies
* AKO MISMO ang kokolekta ng lagay
* AKO MISMO ang magtatago ng ebidensya upang hindi matrace ng mga imbestigador
Personal responsibility is a VALUE, a WAY OF LIFE – it takes
more than legislation.
AKO MISMO is the buzz word – you know the form. But do you understand the substance?
May 9, 2009 at 4:57 am
“Ako Mismo” is a two edge sword…
May 8, 2009 at 3:17 pm
For us at FV I think the challenge of AKO MISMO is this: Why did it take a PLDT/Smart to do such a simple thing? The look and feel is Plurk, but the immediacy and brevity are Twitter, all with the potential of sosyalan of a Facebook.
I think the concept is brilliant, but again, why didn’t we do it?
Because we are too busy running in and judging beauty contests!
I just realized something else about AKO MISMO…if they ever hook the whole shebang up to the PLDT/Smart Network of mobile phones…LOOK OUT! Consider too that they have just purchased a newspaper and its associated AM/FM radio stations. Once PlDT buys into ABSCBN, the transformation could be complete. This thing could be the beginning of the Juggernaut of Convergence we have all been talking about.
May 8, 2009 at 10:06 pm
The bloggers here are too limited in scope: POLITICS!
There are plenty of concerns in FlipLannd, namely:
1. Liberation and dignity of houseslaves; Everyone in FlipLand practices slavery
2. dignity and legalization of prostitutes; Who among FV has not tried prostitutes?
3. liberation from fairy tale promises-promises religion that made all things happen including 92% of Nobel Laureate in Science who are definitely atheists
4. Misinformations by pekeng-peryodistas;
5. Instituted bigotry and racism by Flips;
6. Employment by beauty; please submit application along with 2×2 picture HA!HA!HA!Ha!
7. promotion of education-optional sports; BOXING
8. unartistic movie producers
9. ETC ….
May 11, 2009 at 8:12 am
Why not let people learn to target practice corrupt politicians?
May 8, 2009 at 10:07 pm
They talk POLITICS as if it’s cure all. It’s our culture stupid!!!! NOT POLITICS
May 9, 2009 at 4:59 am
It is we, stupid, not them. We believe and voted for them. We allow
them to steal our dignities…
May 8, 2009 at 4:15 pm
Nick,
I guess this is why I have been batting for a vastly expanded membership campaign for FV. Something as easy to do (seemingly) as AKOMISMO. We must bear in mind that the whole Blogging scene is evolving rapidly. What worked yesterday as individual blogs only does so in a limited context. Collectives have come on the scene like HuffPo and they lead the way there, along with lots of other collectives, like FV. But we are very small group with only a handful that really contribute and the ideas are becoming tendentious and repetitive. We need new blood. Or a bigger pond with more fish. We need a crowd if its wisdom is to restrain the outliers–or to follow them. But I think we won’t be able to recruit the good talent if its this kind of uncontrolled chaos. The Comment Threads are becoming Chat Rooms for professional trolls, or trolls that have become posters, but are still basically trolls with a permanent soapbox. Dealing with them will soon become tedious…some have already found other things to do…please get a hold of me when you’re next in town…

jcc: so you can make the people cluey by blogging?
Sample Action Plan Outline – 05/06/2009 to 2010
For example, from this moment (05/06/2009) on:
1. Pinoy bloggers agree to craft a sustained media plan till 2010 and theme (assuming they get over their PISSING contests – which is saying NOPE they will wind up blogging over the option until the election is over – and they still have not gotten their acts together – the frakkin )!
* TV
* radio
* comics
* newspaper
* Dinner for a cause
* Concert for a cause
* Car wash for a cause
* Garage sale for a cause
* Dance for a cause
* Bingo for a cause
5. Door-to-door campaigns
6. Townhall meetings
7. Get-out-the vote

My good friend tasio, how are you?
When was the first time you arrived in this site? Good to know you’re here and everywhere.
May 9, 2009 at 5:08 am
I have been here since last year. I am sometimes invisible. I post on
the Blogsite. But, you dont know it. You can know me by my writings
and reasoning style. As well as my knowledge on issues. I Post on
the Web Blog with my multi-sensory senses and perceptions. Guess, if

Whoa. I can’t get the site to work, apparently.
Either that or Ubuntu won’t allow me to go through BS that deep.

There you go Renato. You can be like BongV, who styles himself an atheist, but like Gat No, he has found only himself for a god. He finds an outlet here at FV, because in Real Life he’s just another arriviste parvenu working in the Salt Mines of America, bearing the stamp of his lowly mind and rejected origins, sticking his tongue out at the rest of countrymen, just because he gets a W-2. He wants so badly to be taken seriously, not realizing English eck-eck is not enough. The Ateneo cannot give him a heart to match his head.
Ahhh… DJB metamorphoses from a bloated transvestite staring in the mirror to Pekeng DrPacMan… to Madam Auring .. to Freud.. speculating about BongV.. blah blah blah…
There’s a reason why people are sent to retirement. They become IRRELEVANT to the times.
May 9, 2009 at 1:04 am
Don’t fuss, BongV. You will have every opportunity to reveal how relevant you are yourself. For example, how relevant is this comment to the subject of this post? But thanks for cutnpasting and embolding the diagnosis above. It’s nothing personal. What you have is a very common malady among the newly arrived. Too much oxygen in the brain, too little in the heart. Now please, go read Carlos Bulosan’s poem, “America is in the Heart.” It will teach you to love the Philippines!
May 9, 2009 at 1:29 am
It’s nothing personal. What you have is a very common malady among the newly arrived.
DJB:
Excuse me, the mindset was already there BEFORE the arrival.
As to the common malady among the newly arrived, that was YOUR experience – NOT mine. Hasty generalizations na naman tatang, kinakalawang ka na.
May 9, 2009 at 5:03 am
No, some of us Fil Am are earning decent livings. Not all are
working like the Mexicans who climb over the border fences.
May 9, 2009 at 7:36 am
Good for you Tasio! Don’t worry, they’ll lay off BongV first, coz if he behaves like this with strangers, can you imagine what a pain in the pancreas he is with people he knows? Even the Americans love and respect their parents and grandparents, atheist or not. I wonder if he talks like that to his lolo and lola. Maybe behind their backs he says things about them, insults and disdains them? I bet they support the RH bill now, eh?
May 9, 2009 at 10:17 am
DJB:
You diss me. I diss you.
Speak for yourself.
May 9, 2009 at 10:19 am
DJB:
You are not my lolo or lola. Speak for yourself.
My lolo and lola are quite responsible unlike you.
May 9, 2009 at 10:25 am
How about you DJB. How do you behave toward your grandchildren? your grandchildren? Your neighbor?
Do you behave like a jackass like a jackass toward your children?
Don’t you think that not only are your grandchildren talking about you, but so are your children, your cousins, your friends, your acquaintances.
Maybe you don’t notice.
You know why?
Because you are too busy making a pompous fool of yourself.
May 11, 2009 at 8:16 am
I will never be laid off. I own my business. But, I can get

May 9, 2009 at 12:51 pm

It is good to be unknown. They dont see you. But, you see them…
May 9, 2009 at 2:09 pm
An unsolicited advice, BongV, speak Tagalog or english only, not Bisaya. Or you might hear more words like these:
“Maybe behind their backs he says things about them, insults and disdains them?”
No offense meant, Pare.
May 10, 2009 at 9:45 am

Cebuanos learned Tagalog, you Tagalogs better learn Cebuano :D
I suggest, we stick to English only – having Tagalog solely is discrimination. I am an Equal Opportunity Dialect User.
May 10, 2009 at 1:17 pm
Mine is Bicolano, it’s the better dialect because easy to understand. You better learn it, or you’ll cry:
“Maybe behind their backs he says things about them, insults and disdains them?”
May 10, 2009 at 5:41 pm
Bert:
You can post in Bicolano, i’ll post in Cebuano.. and even Ilonggo… and a variant.. Karay-a.
I’ll spice it with a bit of Maranao, maybe some Davaoenyo, a bit of Manobo, and a bit of Binutuanon.
To the tune of a Tagalog kundiman.

Ah, BongV, you are a jack-of-all-trade! I envy you.
May 9, 2009 at 4:13 pm
stick to the subject of the post please, we are talking about AKO MISMO, the message that they are conveying, and the method with which they have taken their message to the masses, let’s debate on this.
personal attacks must stop for the sake of our readers.
thank you
May 9, 2009 at 4:36 pm
heheh. spices and condiments to the course. but I agree with Nick, it’s too spicy already.
AKO MISMO? It’s good advocacy, if not self-serving. We’ll see.
May 9, 2009 at 4:51 pm
thank you Bert, I think we should all heed to caution, while still supporting the overall goal of AKO MISMO. Let’s give them a chance, but as we get information, I think we will be able to make a better judgment on this..
May 9, 2009 at 4:56 pm
Filipino Voices was mentioned prominently several times at IBlog5 today, I am most happy to report. The AKO MISMO folks (and SMART/PLDT) were also much in evidence. One of the early speakers talking about Mobile Blogging turned out to be part of the AKO MISMO team at Smart. He was suspiciously defensive when I asked him after the talk if he thought the AKOMISMO site could be hooked up to the cell phone network, saying that “can” and “could” don’t mean the same as “would.” Asked if they had any plans to do so, he rushed off and promised to continue the conversation later. Something BIG is definitely going on over there and the thing bears watching. WE could launch a site with similar UI ease of use, but we could not compete on that scale if they do have “convergence” plans. I hear Facebook is doing something new also with mobile like Twitter, so maybe the AKO MISMO folks are on the same page of the playbook.
Time for an FV techies conference!
May 9, 2009 at 5:00 pm
Way ahead of you Dean, I’ll email you later about two projects that is set to be launched come June..
May 9, 2009 at 11:30 pm
talked to Dean at the iBlog5. Hope you hear out his ideas. I think they are workable.
May 11, 2009 at 7:21 am
Nick always does, Noemi. Hehe. Am happy to contribute. Lots to do. Many ideas, but few that work, not because they are hard, but because it so much easier to just cast stones instead of piling them up together hoping they stay that way.
May 9, 2009 at 10:57 pm
There’s even one scuttlebutt going around that this AKO MISMO is an engine being assembled to run the Cha-Cha train and ram it into our throat. I say to this: unlikely.
May 9, 2009 at 10:57 pm
it’s quite hard not to be skeptical, even cynical, when a bright idea is tinged with potential commercialism or scamming. there are profit-seekers out there, watching like vultures, ready to pounce on the gullible at the first opportunity. the controversial “acorn” in the u.s. reminds us to look at attractive slogans and acronyms with extremely critical eye.
the big question is, why do we need “ako mismo” or some such so-called movement? do we need to have a movement just to be conscious of our own personal responsibility to do the right thing?
if the purpose of a crusade is to help the “masses” use their collective will to select the best candidates, regardless of popularity, name recall, wealth, or acting ability at election time, then it’s well worth it. a grass root movement aimed at non-partisan, non-commercial, non-sectarian dialogues and discussion of the issues of the day, visions for the future, and selections of the right men and women to carry out those visions, is a must in a society like the philippines.
May 9, 2009 at 11:54 pm
Ah, there’s some movement now in the kitchen: Somebody is cooking a Noli de Castro-Manny Pangilinan broth.
Beware: AKO MISMO might be self-serving after all.
May 10, 2009 at 6:15 am
What good is advocacy if we cannot fix this pestering problem, THE GREAT AND ARROGANT PEKENG-PERYODISTAS?
Pekeng-peryodistas make or break politicians-in-coming. We all know advocacy is stepping stone to national limelight. Being in national limelight depends on pekeng-peryodistas …
Fix pekeng-peryodistas, will fix pipols information, will fix their intelligent opinion, will fix the right choice to run the government.
It’s the egg and the chicken. Which comes first? Pekeng-peryodistas or Good government?
Blah! Blah1 Blah1 politics don’t solve the problem until information delivery is fixed! I MEAN THE PEKENG-PERYODISTAS!!!!
May 10, 2009 at 7:48 am
Ako Mismo could not have been borne without its own raison d etre.
If they don’t, on purpose, tell us what it is except when the whole ’spider web’ has been woven, then let us better find the spider itself and alas, you’re done.
May 10, 2009 at 8:01 am
Ako Mismo was borne because of pekeng-peryodistas … THAT IS FOR SURE … Fix PEKENG-PERYODISTAS, you fix this Ako Mismo thingie!!!!! I DON’T NEED A CRYSTAL BALL TO KNOW … it’s so obvious
May 11, 2009 at 4:35 am
Let us not worry about AKO MISMO. Because, APART, FLIPS THRIVE; TOGETHER, THEY FAIL ….
AKO MISMO WILL LIKELY FAIL!!!!! HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!
May 11, 2009 at 7:24 am
Interesting explanation I’ve heard (and might already have been mentioned here) is this:
MVP is getting so many importunings from the presidentiables for money and support that he has created this vehicle and spread the rumor that he himself wants to run. (Of course just to stave them off.)
May 11, 2009 at 8:22 am
Hey Dean DJB, I am from Missouri,U.S.A. You must show me…Missouri
is a “Show Me” State.
May 11, 2009 at 3:27 pm
Hey Missourah! One of my favorite States.
But I’ve lost the thread of commentary here. What exactly did you want to be shown? Regarding this theory about why there are suddenly rumors of the VERY PRIVATE MVP eyeing the Presidency. No one who knows him personally seems to believe it, so I find the hypothesis plausible. But there is of course no proof to be shown. I don’t know him personally, so I admit this is a bit of hearsay actually.
May 12, 2009 at 11:47 pm
We are skeptics always. We dont just grab what is presented
to us…We use our brains, not regret later.

i have a comment that has been awaiting moderation for 3 days now. what gives? is it because of the innocuous mention of “acorn”? why can’t you guys just delete it if you cannot stomach the warning?
May 12, 2009 at 11:05 pm
what is “acorn” Manoy Bencard? Is it controversial?
May 12, 2009 at 11:55 pm
“balanos” in Greek, “acorn” describes the shape of a male’s head below.
“acorn” is a common slang term for the male genitalia. urban dictionary qualifies it as an unusually small one.
—–
why moderated? was the word “acorn” used before “mismo?”
—–
pardon me, but bert already defined “acorn” by using the word “manoy.”
May 13, 2009 at 12:08 am
baycas, fyi, in contemporary u.s. politics, “acorn” is an acronym of one pro-barack organization. it’s not what you think, man. don’t try to be cute.
May 12, 2009 at 11:50 pm
We still wait-and-see what the “Ako Mismo” will do. The ABS-CBN
“Boto Mo, Ipatrol Mo” seems to be forming and has already formulated
an agenda. The “Ako Mismo” is still waiting for the dog tags to
arrive from China, I think.
May 12, 2009 at 11:56 pm
bert, i believe “acorn” is a controversial pro-obama “movement” that has been in the news during and after the last presidential campaign (accused of voter-registration fraud in several states, for one thing). i just hope this “ako mismo” is not just another gaya-gaya enterprise.
May 13, 2009 at 1:48 am
Ah, yes, thank you, Bencard. I remember now, it’s the movement that allegedly facilitated the registering of democrat voters but not republicans. Well, might not work here as effectively since voters are not easily identified with any political party and are not required to state party affiliation during registration.
May 13, 2009 at 7:14 am
http://www.acorn.org/
Aah, so it’s an acornym.
Thanks, Bencard.
Now PLDT, Smart, or DDB (also MVP, if you like), I offer as a suggestion:
Asosasyon ng Komunidad na Organisasyon
ng Makabayang Interes at Sibol ng Makabuluhang Obligasyon
Ako mismo!
May 13, 2009 at 11:36 pm
not bad, baycas.
May 13, 2009 at 6:17 am
might not work here as effectively since voters are not easily identified with any political party and are not required to state party affiliation during registration.
Whaddya expect.
Voters would rather be identified with personalities instead of issues?
It’s Pro-GMA vs Anti-GMA
It’s Pro-Benign0 vs Anti-Benign0
Its Bipolar Transvestite vs Coconut Racist
It is Pro-Celebrity A vs Anti-Celebrity A
When it comes issues – discussion has remained trivial, primitive, and totally devoid of substance..
There’s an overwhelming demand for celebrity politics instead of issues-based politics.
Supply will gladly meet the demand. Voters get what they ask for – celebrities. Integrity, experience, and vision is just an afterthought – after the celebrities are already in office – and people are in another EDSA drama removing a celebrity they could have chose not to vote for in the first place.
You can put any ad you want, as long as you have melodrama – someone’s buying – wholesale.
Total Drama Island – you asked for it, you got it,
May 13, 2009 at 6:07 pm
You can write good blog, BongV. Do it, rather than just being a boring reactionarian.
May 13, 2009 at 8:13 pm
Bert:
Am not in any mood to write a blog at the moment, younger bro was visiting and we’ve been goofing off just hitting the pedal and see how long we can stay at 90mph without calling attention to ourselves :), bumming at the beach, chilling in the jazz bars and gulping cheapo Asti from Martini by Martini & Rossi.
Dropped him off at the airport this morning and grabbed a snooze in the office parking lot. Dang, back to the coal mines, what a drag.
June 4, 2009 at 9:59 am
if voting ever changed anything it would be illegal!!! lol!!, what if no one voted and we would all just see everyone as equal and help each other to live our lives moraly and content and with nature.., lol, but thats just me it’s next to impossible I think.
May 8, 2009 at 6:58 am
Ako Mismo pledges are blah! blah! blah! It’s easier said than done. I bet ya’ll their biographic info are not true. In the net you don’t give away your true identity … even low-iQ Flips don’t bring out their true identity … unless 72,000 pledges are done by idiots …
May 8, 2009 at 7:17 am
How about you Renato Pacifico? What are you going to do? Be a diarrhea-mouth the rest of your life? Find something to believe in, or else you will end up a professional curmudgeon and racist KSP like Gat No and his acolyte, BongV. The whole “pekeng peryodista” bit was cute the first 985 times but couldn’t you think up of a new phrase to compulsively obsess over? You’re an utter mess and an embarrassment to your friends and family. Clean it up, na! (And listen to the Lil Flipazz Voice inside you!)
