Exactly. Crime has no religion nor nationality. The victim should be able to come forward based on his/her personal conviction that a crime has been committed against his/her person not some trumped up charges, etc. Any support for the victim should make it easy for the victim to deal with aftermath.

“Nor is it correct to paint women as 100% victims…” There have been cases of sexual assault where (young) men were the victims.

JAB, there is no issue about rape being a horrible crime. It’s right there with murder and torture. But men are not all guilty of rape because it is a horrible crime, or because of an accusation. It is a great tragedy to paint a nation (America) or its military as rapists when the unfortunate deeds were (if proven) committed by a few wayward individuals. There are plenty of bad individuals in the Philippines (like the people selling underage girls for sex), but we don’t accuse all Filipinos of being child molesters.

Nor is it correct to paint women as 100% victims, when my guess is there are about as many bad, misleading, manipulative women as there are bad guys. Its the statistics of society, the bell curve, the standard deviation of the mean.

Get the facts of the case out. Try it responsibly. Then determine if rape occurred. Don’t judge a nation on an accusation. Emotionalism like that damns too many good people, and damages US-Philippine ties. If you want the VFA trashed, and the US military out of the Philippines, take up that banner. I’ve read some good arguments as to why it should end.

But accept responsibility for the outcomes.

This “rape” story is just a FICTION. In other words, BOGUS story and is only a PROPAGANDA.

No US Marine, no bar, no text, no five-star hotel, no sex, etc., in this PARTICULAR story.

The crazy part is: There are people who believe in this BOGUS story.

Why is it that Filipinos generalize Filipinas as if all Filipinas are dollar hungry women who are ready and willing to spread their legs for any US serviceman? That is the greatest disservice to the Filipino people. Filipinos are not clones of Jose Rizal or Maria Clara. Unfortunately, some take Cindy Lauper’s song, “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” too far or do not know how to handle that.

Rape is rape, a horrible crime. It has no colour, race or creed. For those who support women who believed they were raped, should help the woman not political cause. Unfortunately, a Filipina who comes out with this issue against a US serviceman becomes a tool for other issues. A woman who has been raped is a victim by another individual.

Yes, Filipinas have been raped, pillaged and whatever in the past when the country hosted US bases. But that’s almost 20 years ago. Just as during the Japanese occupation. Rape (a lot of it) has been reported as well in Bosnia among UN Forces, and in the Congo and parts of Africa with UN Forces victimizing refugees or helpless women.

Allow Vanessa to come forward on her own terms. Rape is a very personal, devastating experience for the individual.

Filipinas put their bodies forward because they wish to put food on the table. Filipinas would be better served if they demanded their government create jobs and do a better job of matching births to the number of jobs that can be created. In the blurry drunken netherland of girl meets boy are escapades that play out in an unfortunate way. These escapades form the fodder of starstruck Philippine headlines that imply the Philippines is somehow elevated when America is trashed. ‘Taint so. The Philippines is diminished when it is diverted from straightening up and flying right. America is what it is, which is why Nichole has migrated west.

That’s because with Suzette and Smith, rape DID NOT exist.

Read and COMPREHEND the law and the 71-page acquittal of Court of Appeals on Daniel Smith.

Another person that Judge Pozon declared guilty has also been acquitted by Court of Appeals recently by a different set of Justices.

Hmmmm ????

Whether this is a true case or not, the Nicole-Smith case has certainly changed everything, sadly for the worse, when it comes to rape cases in the Philippines.

What’s even more tragic about all this, the Filipina is the biggest loser as the unequal relations between the US and the Philippines exists and the branches of government remain biased towards the former colonial masters.
