This is what our politics is about

This is what our politics is about

This is what the board looks like.

Chiz Escudero bolts from NPC to go independent but Loren Legarda is staying with their party. The question of Chiz running or not is still the talk of the town. Either way, any publicity is good publicity.

Could Escudero bolting NPC mean an alliance with Philippine Red Cross chief, Senator Dick Gordon? According to @mlq3, Gordon is claiming huge resources:

“Gordon said to claim big warchest so might entice Chiz, but would Magdalo and NDF affiliates supporting Chiz be comfortable with that setup?”

Of the presidential aspirants, only Noynoy Aquino has a sure Vice President to run with. Villar is without a partner. Gibo Teodoro has none since Puno backed out. Loren Legarda is aspiring, but against Mar Roxas that’s a fat chance to beat Roxas. Binay of course has thrown his hat in the ring, but given the questionable candidacy of Joseph Estrada— will their tandem simply be a nuisance?

Then again, does it really matter if you have a vice presidential bet?

Does Gibo Teodoro have a chance at all? The President’s anointed is a throwaway pawn. As if at this point his association with the President is a plus point.

What of Gloria Arroyo? Isn’t she a dinosaur? After all, in who’s who of Roxas-Sanchez nuptials,, she was noticeably absent. Aspiring Congresswoman Arroyo might find her Putin-like gamble to fail amidst a sea of change.

Unsubstantiated rumor has it that Vilma Santos is quietly being courted by the Palace to run with Gibo Teodoro. If she enters the fray, Roxas will be in trouble. Then again, if Santos runs for higher office, will Recto go for governorship of Batangas and they risk fighting a tight race against a still influential Sanchez?

Joseph Estrada running for office is madness personified. It is “banking on stupidity and forgetfulness,” as Manuel Buencamino put it. Does he still have a chance to win the Presidency, a second time? Will he even be allowed by the Supreme Court? It is quite obvious that at this point his candidacy will most likely be questioned there. The primary reason of course why he is running is to overturn his defeat at EDSA 2.

All things being equal, Estrada and Villar represent an aging guard that has squandered opportunity after opportunity to make this country better. They seem slow and aged and offer no fresh eyes to look the future with. They are the lumbering Dinosaurs.

Noynoy Aquino and Peace DoveThe recent move by Noynoy Aquino to question Camarines Sur’s new legislative district as unconstitutional is a step in the right direction:

“I will file a petition tom at the SC 10AM to declare as unconstitutional RA 9716 which seeks to create a new legislative district in Cam Sur” -@noynoyaquino on twitter.

So Noynoy Aquino did as he promised and filed the petition before the Supreme Court:

Just filed SC petition. This afternoon, I’ll be the bachelor “ninong” at my good friend @MARoxas’ wedding.

This is an important move in the long running story of his journey for the highest office of the land. His platform, I’ve been hearing is to follow, as he and his campaign are consulting with leaders from across the Philippines on consensus. The focus of course is for a government that is honest, that has integrity, that is transparent and for good governance. So is Noynoy Aquino, “Siya na nga!”? (He is the One)?

Noynoy did top IBON’s survey on presidential candidates. At this point the election is his to lose. Yet it is also too early to tell how things will end in May 2010. A Noynoy+Mar versus Chiz+Dick (if it comes to that) will be an interesting match to watch. Villar, it seems will be the haven for the tired and the cynical. Everyone else seem to be irrelevant, at this point.

If you want to take your mind off the circus, may i suggest you go checkout @momblogger‘s “Biggest Blogger Event Ever: Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blog Awards coverage,” @rochellesychua‘s “Bayong ng Kabuhayan“, my tip on how to remember 20+ character passwords, since this is National CyberSecurity Awareness month, Pound the Quality, and don’t forget to go out and register for the 2010 election. Lastly, Roughly Drafted takes a look inside Apple’s new Mac mini Server.

This is Chess and Circus. It is an election that will still be about the battle between the cynical and the optimistic. Though times like this it might seem like a game of chess and a rowdy circus, but at the end of the day, it is a battle for the future, winner take all.

All that prognostication and coming out and saying nothing.

Concentrate on the Congressional races and the local races. That is where the power is going to shift.

    Forget the top.

    chiz’ reasons are so lame.

Seems to me the democratic process is active, for sure. No one has an open track to the Presidency. If I were Filipino, I would be rather satisfied so far – that is one step shy of proud – as the weeding has begun and the competition is healthy. It will be fascinating to see who’s left standing.

I agree. I am satisfied that we are given more choices. A leap towards a victory for democracy.

      A nice insight.

The easier we can intelligently discard an Erap, a Villar a Gibo and a Chiz, it is possibly the better for our forthcoming political future.

Some attributes are common to the top-billed and survey winners, to wit:

Villar is a senator aspiring to be president whose wife is a congresswoman.

Gibo is a cabinet secretary, former congressman aspiring to be president whose wife is a congresswoman.

Erap is a booted-out president aspiring to come back to his vacated seat whose wife is a former senator and his son is a senator.

Chiz is a senator, former congresswoman aspiring to be president whose father is a congressman, former senator.

Noynoy is a senator, former congressman aspiring to be president whose mother is a former president.

If we chose to elect those who have proven very little to change Philippine society, then we deserve the next president we have.

    Time to choose someone else.

Villar, – the haven for the tired and the cynical.

Noynoy – the haven for the clueless.

Erap – the haven for the clueless.

Escudero – the haven for the clueless.

Perlas – Most Competent, Most Honest, Most Exemplary Achievements and… Most Unwinnable.

And we wonder why the Philippines is in the gutters.

      • Edward says:

I’m guessing you’re voting for Villar?

I think Perlas is a sleeping giant. Or I’m hoping he is one. He’s probably just waiting for the right time to campaign out of respect for the rules. Possibly.

But with Erap’s movie coming up, and everyone else’s exposure tactics, he could fade out completely.

      • BongV BongV says:

        Edward:

As far as I am concerned “winnability” is a dirty word.

I am watching Perlas – HONEST, HIGHLY COMPETENT, and VISIONARY.

The former 80s vintage ND and SD “Tibaks” that served as the spine and did the heavy lifting in the sustained mass mobilizations against the Marcos dictatorship are reconstituting themselves.

They are undertaking nation-wide discussions (reminiscent of the Class Analysis, National Situationers, and the occasional CSC – Criticism/Self-Criticism) and their social networks and are in strategic and tactical planning sessions on how to move Perlas candidacy forward.

These guys were part of the 80s most militant and most organized Youth Sector (YS) groups which took on Marcos brutality head-on. These are the ideologues, the strategists, the tacticians, and the street brawlers which sent cops scampering for their anti-riot gear.

Will see how this plays out. It will be interesting times. :)

    • Bert says:

Nah, nothing of the sort will happen, no winner take all! There’s the portent of things to come, as clear as day.

      Chiz now out, Erap next.

Unless Erap live up to his reputation as dumb.

Erap is being set up, to run, then allowed by the COMELEC to run, then will be disqualified by the Supreme Court after the election, repeat after the election. When that happens, his votes will not be counted, or, will be nullified. It will be like hitting two birds with one stone; 1) he’s disqualified; 2) his votes prevented from going to Villar or Noynoy. Nice.

What will be left is a fight between the two top contenders…Noynoy and Villar to the finish line.

Where is Gibo? Still puffing and huffing at the starting line. Ahayhehehehe.

      • BongV BongV says:

Whoever wins Aquino vs Villar – Philippines still loses.

In the year 2010, the Philippines retrogresses to 1987 living standards.

  8. tranquil says:

How about a commitment by either Noynoy or Villar to prosecute Queen Gloria’s sins, bring her to trial and serve her justice? It is imperative that we should be able to do this to fortify our democratic space and institutions. Taiwan and South Korea had done better in indicting their criminal presidents where jailing, not pardoning, proceeds after the sentencing.

Anything less than that and we will have more of the same circular circuitry and circus.

  9. Hyden Toro says:

  10. victor says:

you would notice, if you watch debates, that GIBO is the only candidate who would not throw any accusation against his co-candidates… that speaks big time as a person of manners and conduct..

GIBO does not even have a record of being a corrupt when he was the secretary of the department of defense.. plus, remember when the soldiers were really asking for combat boots, well in his management, these soldiers were given such boots…

the only thing that his co-candidates could throw at him is his being connected with GMA, but remember he was from the group of the Cojuangco, so he really is not a GMA dummy, but has his own plans and convictions..

he was even asked, among this three persons, GMA, Danding cojuangco or or your Mother in law, he answered, of course my mother-in-law and the rest are equal… see how smart this candidate is?? hehe
