One-man rule essentially mean a corps of underlings, a junta led by a Caudillo, marching to the dictates of one.
Think Nazi Germany, think Italy under Mussolini, think Uganda under Idi Amin Dada, think North Korean under Kim Il Sung, think the Philippines under Marcos at the height of his powers, think Martial Law.
I dont know, but for me the best time of pinas was in marcos regime, accept it or not, mas disiplinado mga tao nun at maraming galit dahil nakagapos ang mga kamay nila at di sila makapangurakot at galit na galit sila habang nakikita nilang marcosses lang ang nangungurakot that time, ngayon masayang lahat at hinahayaan silang magparte parte ng mga nakukurakot.
With apologies to Bencard for answering the question, which did not say “answers allowed from Filipinos only” — so it is all Ding’s fault, and I hope other blogmasters will appropriately exclude me explicitly so I know when I am not allowed to write — 16% chance maybe, split between Ms. Arroyo and whoever might toss her.
What is the creative mind for, if not to imagine?
Curious, Ding. Do you think it is possible to develop a Constitution that is profound, that articulates values Filipinos believe in, that is something other than a political football?
It would certainly reduce the likelihood of sudden one-man rule.
I’d give the assignment to legal and social scholars (Randy David included), with inputs from a panel of elders (including ALL former presidents). The House has demonstrated that it is the last place to go for understanding of profound principles, like PUBLIC TRUST.
So sorry, Ben. Ahhh, I just can’t help myself. My brain just keeps thinking and my typewriter is addicted to my fingers. Heh, or is it the other way around. . .
Public Trust is a concept not only foreign to the House, but also to the members of the Senate, Executive and Judiciary. Parepareho iyang mga tulisan. :) Lahat iyan ay kurakot.
Translation Joe: All of them are bandits and brigands.
To your “Do you think it is possible to develop a Constitution that is profound, that articulates values Filipinos believe in, that is something other than a political football?

An ABSOLUTE YES is my answer.
Note how this photo-montage post is actually a twin of my previous post.
If to the former the response is YES, Then this post will be responded to in the NEGATIVE.
having been exposed to macoys style of martial rule maybe a lot of senior citizens will oppose to its return either by pgma, erap estrada, ping lacson or maybe danny lim. but how about the txt generation? some reply elicits positive comments, marcosian rule was good we become a discipline people un like now, we become boisterous and arrogant. everybody wants their 15 seconds of fame on national tv. all idolize the tulfo brothers for their astig effects, are they really are? or just a product of a liberal and corrupt tolerant media?by reviewing our history we might find the answer. before the katsila went to our islands each of every community are governed by datus where their voice is absolute. when the american came we are exposed to their so called democtratic ideas so we by principle are liberals we believed in the rule of majority but do we really are? by the way gen aguinaldo who established our first republic called his governtment a dictatorship.now we go back to our present set up having been repressed by marcos developed in us the desire to let go like rustom padilla. so after the edsa revolution we savored once more our freedom, especially of speech and of the press which become the sumbongan ng bayan in the absence of a very strong governance. so we transform like rustom who is now bebe gandanghari, like him we become a mongrel hence if ask the question about the return of one man rule, will we need it , in this period of our history. a strong man who will set up or organize our disorganise society. this leader will not come it the set of pretenders to the throne like villar, erap, noli boy, aling loren, fracis chez aka baMBOO,he must be the guy who will think out of the box, the one who can inspire the ordinary pinoys to action, from a gin drinking republic to a dragon.
You would not, I presume, be a relative of benevolent dictator Lee of Singapore, eh? He fits your model perfectly, perhaps a little too strict for some, but his model society has thrived. I once dated the daughter of his family planning cabinet person. The family planning position was always under attack, for that was in the conservative, ohh, 1970′s or so. But population planning needs to be integrated into any modern society’s economic plan.
And action taken, if needed . . .
My guess is a right-thinking dictator would not allow the Church to dictate to him about his secular responsibilities . ..
Sorry I got off track here. I appreciated your comment.
The mindset of a Dictator or would be Dictator is like that of a
Shark. The Shark eats anything, including fellow Sharks.
Hitler of Germany promised peace with Primier Chamberlain of Great
Britain. After Chamberlain departed. He invaded Poland, and other
European countries. Hitler made peace with fellow Dictator Stalin
of Soviet Union. A few years later, he invaded the Soviet Union on
the Eastern Front. Duplicity is tool also of Dictators.
Saddam Hussein of Iraq had peace with Kuwait. Kuwait even financed
the military costs of Iraq, in their war with Iran. Then, Saddam
Hussein invaded Kuwait and annexed it as a Province.
Gloria Arroyo talked about the coming election. She is silent on the
issue of extending her term. Her words is not even worth a centavo
to me. She is already used to her lying, that she cannot distinguish
between a truth and a lie anymore.
Her making us focused on her trying to extend her term is just a
diversionary tactic. To make us forget: the stolen election, Fertilizer Scam, ZTE Broadband scandal, Euro Generals scandal,
World Bank scandal, etc…
Just watch her moves, and be prepared on any eventualities. It is
still a standoff, until she departs from office. The Opposition
must unite. Otherwise, you will all be gone. Filipinos must also
unite against this tyrant who try to take way our Freedoms and Rights.
I look down in History. I found Dictators to be like any other people
in the street. Myths surround them, to promote their Dictatorship.
Of course, one-man rule can return. With Pat Mangubat and a few others screaming for rebolusyon, then Pinas can wake up to a general or a colonel with “caretaker”-title if enough cannon-fodder volunteers are conscripted into the REBOLUSYON!!!!
Barack Obama and Hugo Chavez find themselves in agreement that the military coup in Honduras of just hours ago is destabilizing.
The coup was condemned throughout the Americas. President Obama joined other regional leaders in calling for a peaceful return of Zelaya to office.
But the Honduran National Congress defiantly announced that Zelaya was out, and its members named congressional leader Roberto Micheletti the new president on Sunday afternoon.
The Honduran Supreme Court also supported the removal of Zelaya, saying that the military was acting in defense of democracy.
Think about this.
There is no such thing as rule of one nor rule of many.
Only rule of few.
Yes punona.

Lee of Singapore was a good one-man ruler.

Love your ‘humor’ :)

depends on which values are talking about – “pakikisama” has become cronyism
“bayanihan” has become gang rape
“delicadeza” has become “omerta”

what an effed up constitution it will be

upn,
It takes more than just screaming for s society-changing revolution to take place. True revolutionaries are not “conscripted.”
Right-thinking citizens imbued with conviction about what is right and are ready to sacrifice their personal safety make up true revolutionary tides.
to Ding: read the English again. What I said was that one-man rule can return, and why.
Your view is valid from the conceptual perspective, at the very least.
It would be helpful if ypu share your broader analysis beyond what you’ve ejaculated.
Share your deep insigh, if you care to.
Ding,
“It takes more than just screaming for s society-changing revolution to take place”.
Amen.
“Right-thinking citizens imbued with conviction about what is right and are ready to sacrifice their personal safety make up true revolutionary tides”
Then I guess revolution, as an option, is out right now. Good, ao let’s all get down to work; let’s take what we have and build on it.
We are on the same page on this point, RC.
Ding,
Ultimately, we all want the same result — a better future; a more prosperous and free Pinas. We probably agree about many, many things.
REBOLUSYON!!

UP n,
That is rather fascinating.
I think both should shut up and butt out.
