After saying his campaign is being waged on a high note and is not engaged in mudslinging Erap has fired a broadside at Villar on the Vista Land Stock Offering and PSE Board Meeting Issue; in the hope of sinking Villar’s campaign and finally gaining the lead in the Presidential Race with sixteen (16) days to go to the Presidential Elections. Villar expressed surprise at the attack by Erap but actually he really shouldn’t be. What precipitated the attack? Well, it was probably a comparative study of the various survey results which would reveal the following observations:
Firstly, in all the survey results Noynoy Aquino has never gone lower than 35% of the surveyed voters in any of the credible surveys. This means that this group is Noynoy’s core and will not shift to any other candidate; for whatever reason they will remain with Noynoy.
Secondly, the survey results of Erap and Villar in all credible surveys to date; when added together appears sufficient to beat Noynoy for the Presidency. This fact gains importance when you consider that Erap and Villar have the same message; in that they promise to alleviate the plight of the poor. They have the same and are appealing to the same political constituency; which is the poor. They both claim to be champion of the masses and in fact the same campaign color – orange. Hence, it is more probable that a Villar voter if he decides to shift will shift to Erap and not Noynoy. In fact, Erap has pointed to this fact that Villar has divided his constituency; since he is the original champion of the masses, in Erap’s previous Presidential Campaign.
Thirdly, of the two (2) presidentiables, Noynoy and Villar; Villar has been shown to be more vulnerable and weak to attacks because of the multitude of issues hounding him and which have been proven to be indefensible; such as the C-5 Road Project; the Land-grabbing charges; the Childhood Poverty issue; the Villarroyo issue and now the Vista Land issue.
In the light of the above facts; it is no wonder that Erap has launched the attack on Villar. Erap must take back his constituency from Villar is he is to win. Erap must attack and attack and attack again. There must be no let up; no quarter given; no mercy; because the prize is the Presidency and Erap’s vindication. Thus Erap does not need to beat Noynoy all he needs to do is to beat Villar and regain his constituency. Of course the obverse is also true.
