Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita:
“She is the model… probably in the face of adversity, the new president can learn from other leaders, like the Philippine president, on how to face up to problems and challenges especially when there are constant attacks from the opposition and detractors.
Hers (Pres. Arroyo’s) is a “the proper conduct under pressure .
She is a very confident president. I don’t want to say that we Filipinos are better that anybody else, as in the US they have a different system, Pres. Obama is very well-prepared to lead the US, which is now deep in recession and facing various security problems domestically and abroad, like Iraq and Afghanistan.
He’s young, he has been a senator for some time. And he has a strong background as a lawyer and his schooling is very impressive. I see him as very confident and decisive,” With the support of the American people, I believe he can pull his country “out of the rut they are in.”
Executive Secretary Ermita must have surely said it off the cuff.
He was responding to a reporter’s query about whether Malacanang felt Mrs. Arroyo “was being alluded” to when the new US president spoke about how foreign leaders should “unclench” their fists.”
This with regard to staying in power through deceit and by stifling dissent while saddled with corruption in office.
Sadly Mr. Ermita, popularly considered ‘the little president’ quite imprudently dispensed unsolicited, and misplaced advise, to the leaders of the most powerful democracy in the world.
Having done that, Ermita has invited reactions about what Mrs.could ‘teach’ her American opposite number: mis-governance, how to lose a people’s mandate, and lack of accountability.
On the heels of the Ermita’s slip comes word that the National Telecommunication Commission is thinking of “requiring bloggers to register” (presumably as a requisite to do on-line writing.
Whoa!
If true, this machination means authorities want writers exercising the constitutionally-guaranteed freedom of speech to get licenses!!!
I can almost see the bright boys at the NTC backpedalling with egg on their faces and shoes being thrown at them.
Popularity: 1% [?]
cocoy has already made an earlier entry about National Telecommunication Commission and licensing/registration of bloggers.
isang malaking SUSMARYOSEP!!!!!
I wonder how they’re going to do that hehehe
Ermita’s boss can really advise Mr Obama how to ruin institutions of government which BTW we inherited from the US.
Ha ha ha ha! They might as well block facebook and multiply.
How can you do that? Oh technocrats of little brain?
hahahaha. Good luck to them on that. A good number of bloggers are anonymous. And how sure are they that all the people who blog about the Philippines are Filipino Citizens?
Are they gonna arrest people who blog about the Philippines just because they don’t have a license? lol.
well that’s a great feat if they can pull it off, as mentioned above, some blogs are in social networking sites…and if they can push this through the implmentation would pretty much be a mess (Based from experience-from other gov’t proj.s – but not all) and at the back of my mind something tells me that this is just another way to charge the people some cash for their benefit..
hahaha! the web is huge, how are they supposed to do that? they should be addressing the more serious problems in this country. well, i couldn’t blame them… with the population of bloggers growing, the blogosphere is a good market. seems like money talk again.
Accordingly, the proposal of NTC is under “further study”. I’m sure pag dating nila sa Chapter 2, alam na nila hahaha! Kayo naman. Bigyan nyo naman nang time mag-study. :-)
Huge points van john, iggy. The Bureaucrats have decided to cash in on the Web in their usual way, thinking it’s one of those fiefdoms of theirs where they can push people around and bleed them dry.
I say, “Welcome to our World Wide Web,” as the Spider once said to the Fly.
These are precisely the kind of people in the world that President Barack Obama is referring to as being on the wrong side of history:
Filipino citizens should really be pushing back on government officials at all levels of the government when it comes to corruption, suppression of free speech and other Constitutional rights, and the risible attitude of impunity with which Gloria and her Cronies have ruled these eight long years and perpetrated the most dastardly plunders, bribery, collusions and coverups.
The World accuses GMA of running the most corrupt government in Asia. It is an effin embarassment, worse than anything ever brought upon the country by Erap.
With the recent World Bank expose of corruption in govt bidding and contracting and its enforcement actions in a project involving WB funds, the administration is truly vulnerable to public criticism and demands for heads to roll and people be jailed.
(I think that Jimmy Paule is even going to Senate hearings on the Fertilizer Fund Scam HIGH on something. They should do a drug test on him.)
It is not so much as unwillingness to allow NTC to study the matter given that its real purview under the law covers matters technical for communications technology, never content.
What even those in MSM broadcast know is how time and again NTC HAS BEEN USED TO TRY TO INTIMIDATE BROADCAST OUTFITS WHEN THEY AIR EXTREME VIEWS AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT OF THE DAY.
VIGILANCE AGAINST THINLY VEILED ATTEMPS TO STIFLE DISSENT IS THE ISSUE HERE.
kinahanglan pa nila i-prove ang importance and the reasons behind sa kani nga thoughts kai basin one-sided lang ni nga idea. these needs analyses and informations before they could forcely implement it.
isang malaking SUSMARYOSEP!!!!!!!bwahahahahahaha
magkape na lang kayo sa starbucks mga taga gobyernong bobo!!!!!!
Hey mga kapwa ko bloggers. Why don’t we try praising PGMA everyday at every blog post.
Hey NTC, try and register me. Madali lang naman ako hanapin eh.
Maeng,
The choice will ultimately be between allowing ourselves to be put under the gun or being like meek sheep.
This Administration is out of touch. Obama has this to say to PGMA:
“To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history,”.
Silencing of dissent:Licensing bloggers?
Ahhahaa! This is what you get from a militaristic cabinet. I can’t believe this, it’s like what the lawyers of Pangandaman intend to do to the female Dela Paz by filing a libel case against her.
Libel in blog?
I think this Government has forgotten what a maxim in governance in the word of Lincoln: “With Public Opinion on your side, nothing can fail”.
Obama harnessed the power of the web to his advantage. That is something of an advice for this sick administration.
Its entirely wrong for bloggers here to blame NTC of imposing a prior restraint in freedom of speech.
NTC people just need to expand their client base from bloggers as source of new toll fees (grease money)as they were already overtaken by people from other government agencies who are now busy collecting from hapless people and companies before the ship sink.
i hope president Barack Obama can help d phil. gov’t n fighting against corruption. President gloria and all d rest of d politicians holding an office r corrupt. THEY R ALL CORRUPT!!!!!
