Filipino Voices’ First Podcast

May 1st, 2009 by Nick

There’s a few issues that we should discuss here.. I wanted to wait until the dust settled so that I could weigh in on the controversies.  My apologies, since this is actually my first podcast, so obviously, a bit more practice will be needed.

I would love your thoughts on the following

1. Credibility

2. Transparency and Honesty to our readers

3. The need to evolve and grow as a collaboration, keeping true to our creed of freedom of discussion and debate.

4. Celebrating participation in political discourse.

Caveat: I talk in the podcast about not condoning what Pat has written in his blog.. this is not the case, what I meant was that I have not condoned some of the actions he has taken in being so adversarial and questioning those who do not agree with him.  Also, this is not a challenge to Pat only, but as well as those who were involved, because I sincerely disagree with how the whole debacle was taken to extremes, way out of control.  I sincerely keep the respect I have for all the writers, and although I will disagree with their actions, I will always keep these things in a non personal basis.

  • We may disagree on issues. However, this is Democracy. It is good to disagree. We dont want to be Robots,
where the idea of the Leader is replicated on the followers.

This is what the Islamic Extremists want. To follow the will of the Religious Leader. Since, they believe that the
Will of the Leader is the will of God. The Leader can become a despot. You dont question his despotism, because
you are questioning the will of God.

The more ideas we bring in view, the better. People must voice opinions. They must bring out what they are thinking. They must give their opinions.

We have many problems. These problems cannot be solved by one man or woman only. We have also to
bring out the wrongs in our society, in order to right it.

The reason why evil prosper, is that there are only a few good people to fight the evil. If more people comes
to join the fight. Evil will not have a chance.

  • WoW! I'm lovin' it! Let's get this alternative media going to compete with the main stream media. Blogs and on-line forums has been my news diet since I gave up on our 4th estate. It has been my source of "reliable" alternative information and commentaries. I put "reliable" in quote because blog's publications are still based on print and broadcast medias.

Blogs has been a place where we have Rights-to-Reply that the MSMs vehemently and ferociously opposed. Could the courage of FilipinoVoices.com and its bloggers come from being launched in America? Or, commentators are from America where rights are protected that is beyond the reach of Philippine government and 4th estate. Or, just inherently daring? Or, simply, knowledgeable, more better than Philippine 4th estate?

  • …. con't

Podcast is a step in the right direction, regardless, the audience is narrow and sparse and mostly in their mids-to-dying, convalescent and conservative-thinking class. I’m seeing marketing these sites and others to journalism class, English majors to reach out to the young, hip and cool.

Since FV doesn’t have beat reporters on the ground, hooking up with them and publishing their alternative takes of events, anonymously to avoid conflict of interest, would broaden FV as purveyors of RELIABLE news not a mere outlet of commentaries.

  • … con't

The beat reporters are fully aware that their reports are clinically cleansed so as not to get the ire of the establishments. These beat reporters are young, therefore, idealistic. They are the ones who look at things differently than the older ones who has already given up that succumbed to envelopemental and coin-operated journalism.

FV could parse their news reports, shoots Q&As, before it gets published. News reports may be late but that is the costs of reliability.

podcast for 40 minutes which can be summarized in less. entire message is good and this is it: "no one has the monopoly of the truth and everyone must not ascribe ill motive on one's comment/opinion and must seek out the best of intentions in those comment/opinion. one can a pro-politician without necessarily being a "paid-hack" . we have enough patriots that shed their blood for us where we can draw our own strenght for our own survival.

  • nick,
such a young voice and an accent so familiar. great podcast pero taas kaayo uy.

    • Thanks Leytenian.. mao lagi, abi nako moabot ra ug diyes na minuto pero ni taas hinuon..

nag lisod ko ug podcast mao stick to writing nalang ko.

pero, I hope the message spoke for itself.. there are indeed so many things far important than our own disagreements, that we should find common ground..

  • At the end of the day anyone in whatever sphere of human existence rises or falls on his body of work, on what he has done, or should have done, but WITTINGLY failed to.

So it is with leaders and followers, the mighty and the meek.

  • Whatever anyone did or failed to do, wittingly or not, is ultimately none of anyone's business.

Whether we like it or not, the TRUTH is that it is ideas that determine the course of history. They are ultimately what uderpin ACTIONS.

Without, ideas, actions are nothing more than a bodily function. Whereas the ability to act is shared across the animal kingdom down to a lowly tapeworm, the ability to develop and exchange ideas is something unique to humans beings.

So let's just continue exchanging ideas and not be too presumptious in our speculations on how much or how little the other is "doing", or how much "qualifications" one possesses to earn him/her the right to speak out.

  • Daaaang, Dude…..it seems intelligent bloggers and commentators are BisDak! MABUHAY ANG MGA BISDAK!!!!

  • Primer C. Pagunuran

In the context of time and space configuration, the concern in New Media is at bottom, on the here and now – at the speed of light.

Against this backdrop, it does not become remote that the requisite criteria of credibility, honesty, debate, discourse may sometimes appear to have been compromised since blogs are supposed to carry new and fresh ideas and as soon as laid on the table, a whole wave of conjectures and refutations logically ensues.

Perhaps, nothing ought to be final as to be absolutely authoritative. Rather, we can only provide tentative albeit normative proposals on each and every issue that confronts us. If FV can reach to as much audience as possible, the better for its longevity.

In the end, everything decentralized will be centralized. In like manner, everything too centralized will always proceed to decentralization. So we might as well let FV run its natural course, wherever it leads – us.

    • BongV

      Primer:

Most comments are in the nature of refutations. Which gives an indication that the commentator is in a debate-mode. It is the same o’ mode in PEX, ABS-CBN, Sunstar Forums, PBC, filipinoforums.net, the defunct INQ forum.

Are commentators incapable of switching to brainstorm mode? Are we incapable of contributing something productive and non-toxic that addresses a toxic reality?

  • Benign0’s and Primer’s posts above should be the guiding principle for the blog’s existence …
