For an absolute, hereditary monarchy

From next week till they adjourn to enjoy the fruits of their kowtowing for the Christmas break, the House can deal with Charter change. With the recent breeding of a new mongrel in the Senate of the Republic, a Charter change in whatever mode is now possible. Since it is inevitable (if we believe Jesus Dureza and Gloria Arroyo’s supporters in the Intarwebs), I will swim with the current and support Charter change for one condition and one condition only: OUR FORM OF GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE AN ABSOLUTE, HEREDITARY MONARCHY WITH A SUBSERVIENT PARLIAMENT, COMPOSED OF A HOUSE OF LORDS AND A HOUSE OF COMMONS.

I have several reasons why I am making this condition.

1. Both Houses of Congress and majority of the elected officials of this country are acting as if Gloria Arroyo is queen anyway, so dispense with bullshit called democracy and establish an absolute monarchy, which is what is existing now.

2. Our elected officials act as if their offices are theirs and their kin’s, so dispense with the bullshit called elections and establish a hereditary monarchy with hereditary peerages, which is what is existing now, anyway.

3. Our officials act as if they derive their power from God, so dispense with the bullshit called separation of Church and State and instead establish a monarchy with a state religion, which is what is existing now, anyway.

4. Our officials love their titles so much, so dispense with the bullshit called leaders-as-servants-of-the-people and instead establish a monarchy with all the peerages and titles that we can bestow.

5. Lastly, our officials love acting before the cameras and pageantry. So dispense with the bullshit called republicanism and instead establish a monarchy with all the pomp and pageantry that it entails.

And finally, who wouldn’t want to sing this?

Zadok the Priest

Zadok the priest
And Nathan the prophet
Anointed Solomon king

And all the people
Rejoiced, rejoiced, rejoiced
And all the people
Rejoiced, rejoiced, rejoiced
Rejoiced, rejoiced, rejoiced
And all the people
Rejoiced, rejoiced, rejoiced and said:

God save the king
Long live the king
God save the king
May the king live forever
Amen, amen, alleluia, alleluia, amen, amen
Amen, amen, alleluia, amen

God save the king
Long live the king
May the king live forever
Amen, amen, alleluia, alleluia, amen, amen
May the king live
May the king live
Forever, forever, forever
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, amen, amen
Alleluia, alleluia, amen, amen, amen
Amen, amen, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, amen

Long live the king
God save the king
Long live the king
May the king live
May the king live
Forever, forever, forever
Amen, amen, alleluia, alleluia, amen, amen, amen, amen
Amen, amen, alleluia, amen, alleluia,
Amen, amen, alleluia, alleluia

And besides, if Arroyo is our queen, the British National Anthem becomes apropos.

God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen:
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us:
God save the Queen.

Thy choicest gifts in store,
On her be pleased to pour;
Long may she reign:
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice
God save the Queen.

I agree as low as we make it a permanent female succession. We are a Queendom.

So Mike Arroyo will be treated like Elizabeth II treats her consort. Mike Arroyo in the words of the Duke of Edinburgh will be a “bloody amoeba” :-)

Mikey Arroyo cannot hope to be the Prince of Lubao. But the succession will pass on to the Princess Royale Luli and her daughters.

Arbet is a technical writer who blogs about non-technical stuff, and since there are no technical manuals about citizenship and civic involvement, he chose to write about these topics.

OT but why dont you, Arbet? Write a technical manual on citizenship, I mean. Something for the kids to use in school. Im sure MLQ3 can be a great help finding a publisher.

  5. butinga says:

Long live the Queen. Gloria, Gloria, Gloria.

  6. (arbet, how did you embed this youtube vid?)

hmm. if we of the burgis class are revolting, it must mean we are revolting against an aristocracy.

    another (ho-hum) useless article

as conyo said, “guys move on and do something relevant”. do not sulk, fight if you must but don’t be too engrossed over your wound.

Thomas Jefferson said that “impeachment is a bugbear, a scarecrow that the magistrates fear not”. By parity of reasoning GMA is not afraid of this “impeachment”.

There are some people like me who think that impeachment is counter-productive viewed from the fact that GMA will be in office for less than 2 years.

Do not be a tool of some politicians who are already salivating for power who just like GMA will rob the people blind when already in power. :)

  9. as a private citizen says:

just like children crying over stolen candy

c’mon people.. you can do more than that!

  10. Jeg says:

hmm. if we of the burgis class are revolting,

Yes I do find most of the burgis class revolting. ;-)

  11. @jeg, including yourself of course.

  12. Jeg says:

Oh Im sure Im regarded by some people with revulsion. Hehe.

But what I meant was that I find those of the burgis class who are not revolting, revolting. ;-)

“There are some people like me who think that impeachment is counter-productive viewed from the fact that GMA will be in office for less than 2 years.”

Atty Camano, is this the same reasoning why you failed to return your client’s super kalan? It only has 2 years left kaya tinago mo nalang?

  14. Bencard says:

in this day and age, a president has definitely more power than a “queen” (or king for that matter. what are you talking about?

a “royalty” cannot have real, absolute power under a constitutional system.

if you want an old-fashioned, pre-20th century royalty, you would have to gut the constitution and install a monarch who would be the constitution and the law unto him/herself.

  2. [...] On the contrary, the only real checkmate on the President (on any head of state for that matter) is assassination. Kill the damned bitch and get it over with. I’m pretty sure that’s what’s on a lot of people’s minds anyway since there no longer seems to be any interest in strengthening democratic institutions. People like Doronila speak of the Presidency as a prize to be “captured;” and the great Manuel L. Quezon’s grandson’s view on the matter seemingly (and ironically) trivializes the expiration of the president’s term, ergo, trivializing also the necessity for an orderly transfer of power through democratic means. The presidency, therefore, is no longer for the people to bestow on a pretender, but a crown whose resting place of the moment is determined by the new nobility. Monarchists would be proud. [...]
