There’s a saying that those who can’t stand the heat should get out of the kitchen.
Well, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and her men decided to do just that by spending the day in Boracay, savoring the cool breeze and walking barefoot on the therapeutically warm, and pristine white sand. as they went on a British-style ‘walkabout’.
Mrs. Arroyo, hardworking as she is, surely deserved the break, what with her Ombudsman busy parrying off an impeachment complaint and new survey results confirming Filipinos’ continuing low, low regard for her and her administration.
Even her Press Secretary, seasoned brocast journalist Cerge Reemonde, took the easier tack of just accepting the new Pulse Asia findings as true.

Remonde chose not to belittle the survey, as his predecessors were wont to do, and simply mouthed Malacanang’s patented line that his boss remained “focused.”
One can almost detect a hint of resignation in Remonde’s remark.
“So be it,” he seems to be saying.
To be fair, with 14 months left in her term, there’s still a lot that can happen, and a lot Mrs Arroyo can do to recoup her political capital, and leave a legacy certainly better than the stench of corruption that her detractors say pervades her administration.
There is still time, Madame President.

I’m not complaining of Gloria. I am complaining of her team and her hubby? :) Let’s see if she can pull it together to have a solid team after 2010. By now, she should be an expert of team building for the next president. The new team should be ready and the people should not be burdened with ongoing corruption and political dynasty. Gloria can change that within six months. It’s a matter of legislations and binding agreement within our Constitution. I really wish this administration will prohibit family to represent the people in the same locality, prevent private sectors from influencing candidates and to stop buying of votes.
Gloria’s last year should be focused on cleaning-up dirty strategies both hers and her team. And a the same time, enhance the talents, prepare and create more employment.
leytenian,
In all honesty, I do hope Mrs. Arroyo, for her sake, and ours, is able to salvage a measure of pub acceptance in the remaining days of her rule.
The external factors are daunting enough.
I must also concede that there is much to desire in the snapshots of the political opposition, and the wannabees in 2010.
I submit those pushing for an Erap restoration’ have their heads in the cloud, while the obvious hubris and ignorance in statecraft of certain presidential timbers is far from reassuring.
What deals are GMA trying to cut as she prepares to boy out is another question,
Consistent negative trust ratings of GMA can never go against the law of gravity. Even beyond her term, the pattern continues and that is a real curse one can get.
“There is still time, Madame President.”
Too late, Ding. Give her eight more years, or give her eternity, her nature, as we are seeing it, defies the theory of evolution.
Her consistent negative trust rating says it all, the people can’t be all wrong…she’s pretty consistent herself, I think, even to the last minute.

leytenian, heheh. She’s the president, you know, and “her hubby” is her husband.
They’re one, and a bunch!
Bert, Your “…her nature, as we are seeing it, defies the theory of evolution.”
A most scathing observation giving it a Darwinian twist even :)
You realize, of course, that my prodding her about there being “still time” is less an expression of hope but rather a dare for her to “unclench” her fist, echoing the Obama challenge or as one might say, term of engagement,
Ding:
Re:Gloria’s Legacy
If Gloria or one of her surrogates reads “Filipino Voices” ,I want to ask her one simple question:
What will your apos see in the their computers in the future when they “google” the words”Gloria Macapagal Arroyo?
The possibilities are staggering…good or bad.
EQ
That will depend on the perception of her apos.
This family seems to be so out of touch to reality and so insensitive that Lully, is once rumored to have called “hampas-lupa” some guests in Malacanan acting as if she never sets foot on the ground.
EQ,
I venture by then they would have been told to say, “that’s all hearsay,” or “if you have proof, so sue us.”
But this is in levity.
I feel honestly that the grandchildren should not be dragged into the issue.
They will have been shaped by their own post-GMA times.
Movement is not progress. You can visit projects
to desensitized yourself from your real surroundings. If everybody is digging dirt on
your administration. And all they find are: Cans
of Worms. Opening the Cans. Varieties of Vermins
are crawling out. What would you do ?
Tim,
Or they could take one of those sailboats you see in the background of barefooted GMA and sail to the wide blue yonder.
I here Portugal or some such place has warm hospitality. :)
