Is Gibo Teodoro Ready To Lead?

This is Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro. Casually dressed.  Relaxed. Confident. Intelligent. He was a member of congress and served as defense secretary.  He is a licensed commercial pilot, and a reserve colonel of the Philippine Air Force.   A quick appraisal of Gibo Teodoro is a man with apparent depth and intelligence.  Accompanied by his charming and equally accomplished wife, Tarlac first district representative, Monica “Nikki” Prieto-Teodro, one doesn’t need to imagine how picturesque they are: power couple.

Here is my ranking of five candidates in terms of “Ready to Lead”, where leadership is based on strength of experience, power of technique and ability to garner legislative support, and problem-solving ability. From best to worst:

    Villar
    Gordon
    Teodoro
    Estrada
    Aquino
    Perlas

Here’s my list of candidates based on who I think is more interested in serving the public than themselves – call it the trust, or patriotic, or character index – from best to worst:

    Perlas
    Gordon
    Aquino
    Teodoro
    Estrada
    Villar

    Therein lies the dilemma.

JoeAm: Gordon!! With some wild-ass-guess at the relative importance between “Ready-to-Lead/List 1″ and “Public Service-List 2″, maximization or “satisficing” both would say that Gordon is the guy for you.

And just look again at your tables. Once you say “NO” to one who becomes WORST in or or both lists, then you land with GORDON.

Joe re: Villar, i enjoin you to read: http://www.quezon.ph/2010/01/21/the-long-view-power-or-money/

as for gordon… once upon a time i think he would have made a good president. now i’m not too sure. as for perlas… his stance on bataan made me think he’s not the right guy for it.

    • rego says:

There is no doubt that Gordon is ready to lead and is more interested in serving the country. And he proofs to show too!

My very best freind is twisting my arm to switch to Gordon. But I really have a very big issue with his temper and I always have that to goo dto be true feeling about him.

I dont really understand but I believe thats just me

      • UP n grad says:

rego: teodoro, to me, is a high-caliber dude who can provide more leadership and managerial abilities than NoyNoy and other candidates.

  2. mariano says:

Vote on who can lead us out of this wilderness. Not on Good looks. Not
on the beauty of the wife. But, thru his: records, accomplishments and character. And what he/she can do for us.

I am not endorsing any candidate. It is your damn choice. Do your job!

  3. This is not my view. But there are some who’d say N.O.T.A.

    • UP n grad says:

From what I can gather from blog comments, a number of voters still wish Chiz had continued his presidential bid. Also there are others who wish that the team is MarRoxas/NoyNoy.

  4. rego says:

Gibo is the the man for me! And thats already final.

  5. Gibo Teodoro is most reponsible candidate of the nation. Flying an aircraft is not a joke it takes long time of practice to master it. HE is the one that is ready .He prepare his self to take a responsibility.A pilot knows how to handle difficult situation even near death experience thier emotions are trained to conquer a certain situation.Like the goverment i believe that he can handle all this problem and i believe his true to him self .What should can say about him to make his self in bad reputation in public.A pilot knows what he is doing and not taking actions without preparation.

    • Mia says:

Yeah, being a pilot is no joke, but our country is not an aircraft, we need a president who is not a puppet of anybody, a president who can decide for the country by himself and not controlled by anyone else. Just like an aircraft, only one pilot is needed to control its mechanism if it’s a bigger aircraft then there is a co-pilot and that’s the vice-president, nobody should be a puppet.

      • UP n grad says:

Mia: That is a good point you raise. Even if your current choice is Villar or Noynoy or Erap or Gibo, it makes sense to evaluate the supporters/kamag-anaks/cronies of the presidentiables.

Some people immediately succumb to the suggestions of their bosses or kamag-anak’s; some people know the intricacies of politics to get the job done without adding illegal embellishments that are being suggested by cronies.

The contra is also true — a president has to have the stomach to face criticism (about favoritism, cronyism, kamag-anak-ism) and approve cost-effective projects beneficial to Pilipinas even if giving approval is to send project-money to a consortium with Madrigal-, Ocampo-, Lopez-, Trillanes-, Buencamino- or Cojuangco-participation.

I do recall he is part of the Hacienda clan, what did he do when his clan’s interest meets the People’s interests?

  7. Phil Manila says:

I was able to catch the Carlos P. Romulo Policy Forum presidential debates over at ANC.

Among the three presidential bets, I must say I was very impressed with the cool, intelligible, and intelligent responses of Gibo Teodoro. Dick Gordon, being the proven achiever that he is, was his usual self-assured, very confident, ‘mayabang’ stance. Manny Villar, as observed by many, was not very clear on his statements.

Ahem, if I may be allowed to be a balimbing, err…just this once, especially if Gordon’s ratings don’t rise, I’m changing my choice.

There is not much any President could do given RP’s socio-political, economic, and cultural environment. Unless, we make some big structural changes. Or worse, elect ourselves a dictator. Under these circumstances, what RP needs therefore is a young, dynamic, and intelligent leader, with enough gravitas, achievement, and potential to MAKE IT HAPPEN!

    GO GIBO!

    • tranquil says:

Gravitas my foot! Couldn’t even be a competent cabinet dog. Jeebus!

      • Phil Manila says:

At least, they came, spoke, and conquered some hearts and minds. How about Noyshow Aquino and Erap Mahirap hagilapin?

        Three words: who dares wins!

      • tranquil says:

        Some?

Two words for Gibo : cellar dweller

      • Phil Manila says:

Hhhmmm, Tranquil is not calm and nice-nicey today, eh?

        One word: Peace!

      • UP n grad says:

not cellar dweller for audience in Cebu (listening to Jan 22 debate) who voted as follows:
Out of 935 votes cast, Teodoro got 456, Aquino a far second with 296, followed by Villar (88), Gordon (45), Villanueva (29), Estrada (19) and Perlas (2).

In other words: Gibo 49%, Aquino 22%, Gordon 9%, Villanueva and others 5% and lower.

Now a restless spirit, eh, Phil?

    Cocoy,

Thank you for the reference link. MLQ’s article shows the skill of Mr.Villar at getting results, a fine quality for a leader. Now about the ethics that accompanied his rapid rise in riches . . .

I have been bouncing around between candidates for some months. My first inclination was toward Mr. Teodoro, particularly after US Secretary of Defense Gates paid him a visit, signaling, essentially, “we can work with this man”. But then came the Ondoy disaster and the missing rubber boats and evident lack of preparedness, which is smack within the Defense area of responsibility. And I ask, what has he been working at during his time in office, and what has he accomplished? The Mindanao struggle has no clear resolution in sight, other than likely capitulation to separatists, a dead-ender for sure. Only economic rehab will help there, and there is precious little of that going on. There is no national program to prepare the vulnerable nation for climate change. The VFA remains a burr under Philippine saddles, and the US anti-terrorism engagement has done little but stir up the hornets. Generals fly this way and that getting their promotions or retirement slips, and I don’t know if they work for Teodoro, or the other way ’round. I don’t like his regionalized platform, as the country needs a strong national plan, not a continued spreading of money and power to regions . . . although I know that is a good way to get votes. The air force has no jets, pirates roam the seas kidnapping Philippine sailors, and army weapons somehow got to the Ampatuans. What kind of military is this, anyway??

Great academic credentials, for sure, but, not only is there no fire originating from the Teodoro desk, near as I can tell, there is not even any smoke.

    Just muddy ash . . .

I welcome his supporters telling me how wrong my picture is, as I am fully open to being properly educated.

    • cocoy says:

Joe, after researching for this post, i’ve found mr. teodoro to be a smart, and intelligent person but foudn him less impressive.

    • Draxe says:

well if you say the mr. teodoro didn’t do his job as a DND secretary, about the equipments of the AFP and the rubber boats. man, it’s all about the budget. teodoro is complaining why the government is only using 1% of its GDP for the AFP, he said it must be atleast 5%, he got a lot of plans about the AFP and disaster preparedness, there are so many plans of acquisition of modern military equipments..its about the budget not the DND sec.

even the US with latest equipment had difficulties when the hurricane katrina hit. ondoy is really much powerful than katrina.

maybe you are a properly educated man. but favoring on villar is such a big mistake.

      just my opinion

  10. Bert says:

“Thank you for the reference link. MLQ’s article shows the skill of Mr.Villar at getting results, a fine quality for a leader.”-my friend Joe

    Joe,

I don’t know if you’re just being flippant, or really serious with that statement, but high government officials getting fast results by short cuts for self-aggrandizement and enrichment out of the pockets of the governed is hardly a fine quality and skills of a good leader. That’s not my interpretations of mlq3′s article, but am often wrong with my interpretations.

    • cocoy says:

      bert is correct.

    • Joe America says:

      bert,

Not flippant. Mr. Villar has skills to get results, which applied in an honorable way, could make him an excellent president. The problem is his track record suggests his aim is not so honorable.

Character, capability, intent. He has good capability, but misses on character and intent. In my book.

      Joe

        Worst pick for a presidentible:

        1. Aquino
        2. Villar
        3. Erap
        4. Villanueva

        BEst:

        Teodoro or Gordon….even Fernando can
