Jose de Venecia Jr. stood tall today. His son Joey, beamed with pride as his father narrated what he knew about the ZTE deal and the bribery that followed. It’s not only Joey who admired his father. I also felt that this is the one that would break the camel’s back. Even my wife, who’s a Pangalatok and despised JDV before, felt proud of her kababayan for standing up against the First Couple. And I think, not a few also felt the same thing when JDV exposed what he knew about those “shady deals” and “scams” that define this administration.
While JDV was confessing his sins before the Filipino People, I was in a meeting with a foreigner friend of mine. He also smiled as JDV exposed how President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo asked him to endorse the fake impeachment complaint of “traitor” Atty. Noel Pulido. ” This is good for your country,” says my friend who specialize in the science of the impossible, politics. ” If the Filipino People succeeds in ousting Gloria, it might infuse a renewed enthusiasm in the market”. I smiled. I just hope it would.
We really need to smile. We need a morale booster. Next year, we’ll be facing a very tough economic situation and we all just need a break. We need a break from charter change. We need a break from graft and corruption. We need a break from an apathetic government. We all need a break from a government who acts like a big real estate and mining developer who sells every parcel of land to foreigners. We all need a break and at least, have a reason to be proud.
I hate Karen Davila. I really do. When she was interviewing presidential son Mikey Arroyo, she’s like defending him and his family from all these things. I thought journalists are supposed to be objective. Karen was like a middlewoman today. And my wife was not happy at all. Probably there’s truth to the rumour that she’s transferring to NBN 4?
I thank JDV that she made my wife smile. At least, for all those years JDV spent as a legislator, this is one moment when he proved to the world, especially to my wife, that he deserves her vote.

“In The Philippines, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist;
And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist;
And then they came for the journalists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a journalist;
And they came for Jonas Burgos,And I kept quiet because Jonas wasn’t my son;
And they grilled Joey on ZTE in the Senate,And I remained silent because I wasn’t as brave as my son;
And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up.”

Patricio mangubat,
tsk tsk tsk
The trouble with having the likes of JDV as star witness to impeach PGMA is Integrity and Credibility.
He may be an insider, but he’s probably as guilty of Graft-Laden Deals as he is Trapo.
So much for his late Rude Awakening.
so jdv made your wife “proud”. what about you, knowing what he stood for before being booted out of power for standing by his controversial son? or do you know that?
“if it is a criminal that witnessed a crime, does it mean that what he witnessed wasn’t a crime?”
Really, do you believe that your wife’s vote would make a difference?
one criminal and watching another criminal and tell the people about the crime. that makes sense, but our problem here is one one would not admit that he himself is a criminal.
I dunno man. Another “hero” we are all supposed to look up to and latch on to as the “hope” of the Republic?
I’d rather be my biggest fan, rely on myself, and set my sights on what best suits my personal fortunes. If all Pinoys did that, we’d be better off. Looking up to “heroes” is so last century. ;)
Benigs,
i don’t see there was any reference to “hero” adulation made by the author of the thread above.
he just said he was proud of what the “sinner” did, which was to expose an insider info ala chavit singson or a mafia goon telling all to the federal agents.
we already know of course the shenanigans of the sinner and his former master.
he’s just now merely confirming it. nothing wrong with that, methinks.
Pat,
Trying to divine where you are coming from, and knowing JDV personally, don’t get your hopes up to much. He did not have an epiphany. He simply wants to bring them down with him. Don’t get me wrong though, while his credibility is shot, he is telling the truth in this rare moment in his life.
Juwad…Joma…Benigno and Bencard,
You all idolize PGMA right? Yet, you did’nt even lifted a finger to prop her up to power. I mean, she also benefited from a poisoned fruit. Chavit, what do you think of him, a saint?
That’s the thing–integrity and credibility. Who is more credible–the person who now wants to go clean and the other who still insist that the fertilizer scam is not a scam at all? Or a son who thinks there’s nothing wrong if his father and mother meets a big bidder of a government contract?
When Chavit exposed Erap’s indiscretions, we all wrote that he’s believable. Now that one of the big members of the Gloria mafia had now came out in the open to expose the dirty things this administration had done against us, we then say he must not be believed? Why the double standard?
And I never said JDV is a hero. I have my own heroes. And JDV is not one of them.
All I said is very simple–JDV has redeemed himself and while such people like Ding would claim he knows JDV personally, we must not look at the person. Look and discern what he says.
Hi Patricio,
What do you mean idolised? I was teary eyed while she sweared in as President on Jan 2001!
But where did JDV redeemed himself? He just parroted what every opinion that we know from reading the morning papers?
That is not reedeming.
whether or not you and your kind “lifted a finger” to help install arroyo, she would have succeeded to the presidency after erap “abandoned” it anyway, no thanks to you. gma was a duly-elected vice president at the time. it was her JOB to assume the presidency. you and your fellow travelers should stop claiming the credit for gma’s assumption to power.
Bencard,
You just don’t know what you’re talking about. Gloria would not have ascended the presidency had it not been for those forces with “ARMS”. Constitutionally, yes, she’s the next in line but the political situation was so fluid last 2001 that there was even a suggestion then to junk her as well. This is realpolitik my man, not conceptual or theoretical politics.
Let me correct the impression you so wrongfully deduced from what I wrote. I did’nt ascribe any credit for Gloria’s ascendancy. No serrie! Re-read what I wrote and use your legal mind to deduce what I want to say before you shoot your mouth off.
by the way, juwad (huwad?) and joma,
Patricio Mangubat,
Patricio,
Seriously, what do you mean by rebolusyon? Very broad kasi ang meaning and it could mean so many. Can you explain it, how it can be done and what are your hope in it?
Can you link me an article, if any, that truly represent your belief?
Thanks.
