Manny Pacquiao’s Homecoming And The December 12 Inter-Faith Rally

The betting odds in Las Vegas were tipped against him as Manny Pacquiao strode up the ring today but whatever were Oscar Dela Hoya’s touted advantages vanished soon after opening bell.

The ‘National Fist’ (Ang Pambansang Kamao) gave Mexican ‘Golden Boy’ Dela Hoya more than he bargained for and quite possibly wrote the initial chapter in the retirement of the Mexican boxing legend.

I still predict at least a second if not third duel between the two but that return bout will have to now wait till mid 2009 at the earliest.

That’s because Manny appears committed to meet Britisher Ricky Hatton, the legitimate world welterweight champ.

But this is not a sports post but rather a note about how the PacMan’s homecoming from Las Vegas may be shamelessly exploited to dilute the impact of this week’s anti charter change Inter Faith rally.

The mobilization for December 12 now includes students from Metro Manila’s Catholic schools and the El Shaddai flock, the Jesus Is Lord ministry, and the Ayala-led Makati Business Club.

Key political figures close to the Arroyo regime are open backers of Pacquiao, among them deputy national security adviser Luis ‘Chavit’ Singson and Environment Secretary Lito Atienza.

No less than Vice President Noli De Castro was at ringside today officially representing GMA.

There’s word now that Pacquiao is being convinced to return to Manila on December 11th or even exactly on the 12th for obvious reasons.

I hope Pacquiao will wisen up to the political machinations and not allow himself to be used.

To be fair to him however, Pacquiao does owe a debt of gratitude to the government of the day and continues to nurture political dreams in General Santos City.

But Decrember 12th may just prove to be a defining moment.

  1. Papaano nga ba ito? Pacquiao should not let himself be used for political reasons. He should not go home on the 11th or the 12th, ano siya, uto-uto ng mga pro-cha-cha? And he should not go home before the 11th or after the 12th, either because it will be interpreted that he is uto-uto of anti-cha-cha.

One listening to the logic of Ding-journalist-of-30-years runs the risk of becoming a deHoya (without the money).

  2. The Ca t says:

wouldn’t you think that this will work for the advantage of the organizers of the rally if the parade coincide with their scheduled gathering?

This will bring more people in the streets. The parade does not last long so the people can stay and mingle with the demonstrators.

if the parade is going to be allowed in makati.

I know pacquiao will not agree to have his welcome parade in Manila because of his loyalty to ex-mayor Atienza.

  3. Unfortunately, December 12 is the date of the annual meeting of the ONLY Philippine archaeologist guild (Kapisanan ng mga Arkeologist ng Pilipinas, KAPI). I’d be seeing that rally on TV (best seat in the house?).

    You really think it’s a “defining moment” ? O.o

  4. jcc says:

pacman, his being a national sensation does not deprive him of his democratic right to choose which side. the collective sentiments here seem to be that he would be used the tool of the pro-cha-cha group by going home on the 12th of this month to concide with the big rally of the pro.

as if he would not become a tool of the anti-cha-cha if he would be prevailed upon go home as scheduled.

  5. blackshama Blackshama says:

PacMan should further his education and put politics aside for a while. Unfortunately the blurbs report that when he ran for the GenSan congressional seat (that he lost. The electorate had more intelligence than the Gloria camp ever imagined) someone “raided” his bank account.

If Manny didn’t learn from that, then he is likely to lose his money again!

  6. leytenian says:

December 12 may be the last DESPERATE attempt for the anti-Chacha. The organizations tactic to use Pacquaio to convince the majority of ignorance from Manila may not be considered a legitimate win against CHACHA. It do not represent the country as a whole. What a Desperate move for people who has no clue of the consequences in the 6 months, 1 year and 10 years from now.

The desperate rally on Dec 12 is for the government of the fools, by the fools and for the fools. The provinces are no fools.

The rest of you may need to recruit more foolish people :)

  7. Juwan_D says:

there are a lot of fools living in metro manila…bwahahahhaha

  8. leytenian says:

that’s what I’ve heard in the provinces. gutom siguro sila?

  9. Mike says:

The opposition is the one injecting politics into everything they see, seeing ghosts everywhere.

On topic though, next Manny should fight two people at a time. Oscar de la Hoya plus a midget. Just to throw in a bit more excitement.

  10. Juwan_D says:

interfaith rally…rally of the sinners and the hypocrites bwehehehehehe

  11. thenashman says:

Pacman should stay well clear of Attorney JCC Camano.

Our favourite attorney de kuleleng might extort money from him…

Tell us attorney Camano were you”
    1. Dumb and hence ignorant of the law and did not know that extortion is a crime? or…
    2. Just patently corrupt hence a shameless extortionist?

See you on the dance floor (that seems to be where washed out lawyers tend to spend much of there time nowadays…)

  12. DJB says:

Not to worry, Manong. Chacha via Unicameral Con-Ass is on its last legs. SCoRP knows it and has told the Palace that there ARE limits to the notion that the Constitution is whatever SCoRP says it is. In the very architecture of the Bicameral Legislature are embedded such basic obstacles to a favorable pro-con-ass decision that SCoRP would become a laughing stock for generations.

For example, it is self-evident that NOT EVEN a unanimous vote by all the Members of the House of Representatives can possibly convene the Congress for a flag raising ceremony, much less a Constituent Assembly.

Moreover, the present House Rule XX Sec. 140 which prescribes normal legislative procedure for proposing amendments and revisions to the Constitution (ie House and Senate voting separately) must first be deemed unconstitutional or repealed by the House. But SCoRP has already dismissed (in a mere Minute Resolution!) the petition of Rep. Adam Jala praying the former for prematurity, and the latter attempt already failed in Dec. 2006.

The Kampi forces are slowly going into disarray over chacha and Villafuerte is gonna look like the silliest Evil Clown in the circus ‘afore too long, I reckon.

I think in fact that being the last Rat on the sinking mV Chacha means the eventual destruction of Kampi as dominant political party. It’ll go down with its Faerie Queene.

(BTW Juwan_D, you better get checked for a condition called Tourette’s Syndrome … all that bwahahehihohu-ing is a dead giveaway.)

  13. jcc says:

cha-cha is a zarsuela, accoding to ding, and we are the audience. if we walk out from the dome, cha-cha will fail. but instead we are glued to the zarsuela with our endless posts in this blog about cha-cha.

  14. nash says:

Funnily enough, Atty Jose Camano could not walk away from extorting money from a man who is not his client.

Do we expect our tongressman to do walk away from the dome or stay for the paso doble given the right amount of fertiliser money?

  15. jcc says:

    nashman;

    :) :)

  16. DJB says:

    Benigs (Ministri de Cacao),
Wouldn’t it be better to post your sublime thoughts HERE on the comment thread to the post of Ding? Or do you make it a habit, when attending a dinner party, to eat directly from the plates on the buffet table and making an oink of yourself?

  17. DJB says:

    JCC,

if we walk out from the dome, cha-cha will fail. but instead we are glued to the zarsuela with our endless posts in this blog about cha-cha.

I guess very soon you guyZ are gonna wish there weren’t such a lot of attention on your chacha attempts, huh? Because–how brilliant of a legal mind do YOU think Mssr. Louis de la Villafuerte is? Or has he painted you all into a corner of absurdity with that unicameral Con-Ass moronicism? (nothing oxy about it).

But how ’bout treating us poor, ignorant bloggers to a nice lil dissertation on the unicameral con-ass idea, Prof?

Defend it for us as if you were trying to get SCoRP to revise the laws of physics that apply to a bicameral Congress. It might be enlightening, and entertaining as a foreshadow of squirms and scrooges that are yet to be…

  18. nash says:

Attorney JCC Camano, I see you are in good spirits this time. The fruits of your extortion must be lifting you up during this recession. Gad, I wish I were corrupt like you, sadly I have some standards.

I was merely pointing out the fact that if a morally upright (according to me, the 2nd division of the supreme court thinks otherwise. Incidentally, you could not get past the 2ND divison despite your eloquence? Surely a travesty.) and suave laywer like yourself could not resist extorting money and stealing a super kalan from a hapless man, what chance the lesser mortals and intellectual midgets that are our tongressmen have of walking away from the dome given the right inducement??

    Music please….

  19. jcc says:

bumaliktad ka man sa kaka aadhominem, i will not dignify that with a reply. :)

  20. jcc says:

    djb,

unicamiral, bicameranl, parliament, no parliament, cha-cha, no cha-cha. the problem is not in our institutions and our constitution. the problem lies in the dark corner of our heart..

  21. nash says:

Sus attorney, hindi porke’t you use big words you can get away with insulting the common sense of people..time and time again…so it’s time to fight back.

And it’s not as if it was hard, you did the ad hominem to yourself when you decided to follow the path of the corrupt and became an extortionist.

So it is not surprising to some to see how easy it is for an extortionist like you to be blind and defend the honour of Gloria.

And such a brilliant lawyer you are, talk about NOT replying when you just did.

I now wonder if I should think differently of you, maybe you are not corrupt and the extortion was just you being dumb and ignorant of the law.

And unlike you Attorney Camano, hindi ako bumabaliktad. I don’t extort money from both sides of the fence hokey…

  22. nash says:

    PS.

Atty. Camano, Esq. You seem to know a lot about dark corners of the heart. Is this the same part of your heart that said “I’m going to extort money from this man and steal his super kalan”?

  23. DJB says:

JCC: Copout. Hehe. Can’t blame ya. Law schools would have a terrible time explaining it all, that unicameral con-ass crap I mean. What I find hilarious is the ability of perfectly respectable people, in legal academe and in politics, to act as if there were some real mystery or ambiguity in the chacha provisions, when the truth is, there ain’t. Even the House Rules prescribe voting separately as in lawmaking. I would say Gloria and chacha are in big, terminal trouble, even without the “people power” mass actions. It’ll get ugly when the tipping point is reached and even her sycophants begin to jump ship.

  24. joma says:

    Hi Ding,

    Why concern yourself with dilution?

If God exist and He support his faithful, no Manny Pacquiao can overshadow…the trouble is…

  25. LOL @ super kalan

What is this extortion discussion? Sorry, I don’t follow the gossip.

  26. Mike H. says:

  27. jcc says:

    mike,

you can show your objectivity by atleast getting into the facts: my license is intact. please go to to SCORP website and look for the list of lawyers and you will find that jcc is still there. the california bar, i missed it by certain points, but i will take it again.

or you can atleast go to my site and read my two motions to find out that “extortion” is not one of my vice, contrary to what the SCORP said.

do you believe in the cliche that not all those in jail were “guilty”?

  28. jcc says:

    mike,

Don’t you that Rizal, according to the Spaniards was a traitor, and Aguinaldo, according to the Macabebe troops was also a traitor?

  29. Mike H. says:

Kapag you get the points for the California Bar, the California law license becomes yours dahil the California Bar can consider you “rehabilitated”.

  30. jcc says:

rehabilitated? i have no vice to be rehabilitated from. just get into the facts. read my motions so you would enlightened of the issues.

  31. nash says:

duh, your motion was you asking the supreme court to define ‘extortion’ for you. dios mio, magbukas ka lang ng dictionary, kahit hindi OED at yung pipitsugin lamang, malinaw na malinaw kung ano ang ibig sabihin ng extortion.

either 1.) you are really dumb not to know what extortion is or 2.) you are hopelessly corrupt and remorseless

this is why you were found by the IBP to be morally unfit…

  32. Given the consistently ‘brilliant’ insights that our dear friend in Australia regurgitates, I can’t but feel sympathy rather than anger. What I will not do however is to engage someone who’s become bigoted towards his own. Stay well sir. You know who you are.

  33. Phil Manila says:

As I predicted, PacMan turned the Golden Boy into a bronze loser. Pacquiao is now preparing for the Grandest Homecoming ever. As usual, produced and directed by the usual suspects Atienza, Chavit, et. al.

Politicians are again baiting him to their side, enticing the champ for a possible run in the second congressional district of Quezon City. PacMan might be inclined so as not to give away to people his own hard-fought (literally) money, but pork-barrel funds.

Conyo, we have to implement Plan B. We elite bloggers have to realize that if an actor could be president, so could a Welterweight Champ.

    Pacquiao for President!

  34. The Ca t says:

parade for pacquiao is Dec. 11.

  35. Juwan_D says:

    whoooaaaaaaaa

  36. jcc says:

    Juwan_D,

I am your friend, but somehow, the heckling part gets annoying. :)

  37. Bencard says:

  38. Juwan_D says:

    jcc,

i am your friend too…btu what i’m saying is merely what I have observed…you call that heckling..I call that the reality…

friends or foes…something has to be done to get rid of the present politicians and the kind of politics we are having right now…

you get annoyed with this thing Im doing when it doesnt harm you, affect you and fuck our country and countrymen in anyway….

You people projects yourselves as articulate…bright..promising and leaders (at least you guys sounds like one)…and it pains me seeing your kind spending your time arguing, debating and talking about what is to be done to change our country for the better…instead of strting to put your words into action…magkaisa kayo, pangunahan ninyo ang mamayang pilipino na naghihintay lang ng mga taong walang bahid ng politika, walang bahid ng kurupsyon at ang hanagarin lamang ay maisaayos ang bansa at maiangat ang pamumuhay at moral ng bawat pilipino…

mainis ka jcc hangat gusto mo…that will not stop me from telling the obvious.

  39. Juwan_D says:

    Bencard,

    kelan?????

  40. Juwan_D says:

    bencard,

  41. jcc says:

    juwan_d,

Not at all against your reeving and ranting as every frustrated Filipino should. But we can be articulate our frustration by observing some decorum in this blog. Don’t be like others who just for the sake of arguing would resort to inanities and senseless points.

The reason I am annoyed because I expect so much from you and it is your unlikely side that you mostly project in your posts. I care for you bro so i want you to sober up and leave the grieving Filipino heart behind.

Enlightenment is the basic foundation of a moral and just society. At least some people in this blog believe that we are trying to achieve just like that, argue our points and disagreement hoping that we can find a common ground for agreement of what is best for our country.

Do not expect to find any field combatants in this blog who will storm the the bastille and spill their guts. The very reason why we are here because we could not afford to spill our guts but that does not diminish one’s love for country and the flag. The Redeemer did not even profess for blood sacrifice, but of love, and yet He was the greatest conqueror that had ever walked this earth.

    Peace Brother! ! !

  42. Juwan_D says:

    jcc,

very touching…like what I said before…magaling kang manunulat.
