Congressmen and Senators, regarding House Bill 3306, your premise is incorrect. There is no need for House Bill 3306. I will try to write this in English as simple as I could muster, so you may understand:
The spirit of the bill says “gives the accused the right to respond to in Mass Media”.
- Isn’t it the job of the courts to hear disputes and to settle it?
- Doesn’t the Constitution already guarantee Freedom of Expression, and Freedom of Speech for every Filipino? All it takes is one letter to the editor to explain your side of the story, or to request a news program to interview you. Last I checked they are very much willing to do such thing.
- In this age of the Internet? pfft, anyone can just open a blog. So you want to say your side? Blog it. YouTube it. Twitter it. Facebook it. And I cringe to be tying this: friendster it.
- Did you see that farce on Hayden Kho and his sex tape being aired on National Television? That wasn’t the worst of it. It was taking the Senate’s time. And that time, was being paid for by the People. And that time is best spent discussing issues of State.
- The Filipino People maybe entertained with all your stories about your private lives or how you are all blood innocent, surely, the wisest course is to put this country’s interest above your own.

It reads:
“Section 8. The publication of the reply or correction does not preclude the recourse to the exercise of other legal rights and remedies available to the party or parties concerned.”
In other words,what more should the accused or criticized person ask for after his right of reply through publication or broadcast has already been achieved?

The Bill is a reminder that everybody will be given the same space and condition to reply. It is redundant. If somebody accuses. Nobody
is preventing the somebody from replying back. It is a way to remind everybody to Behave, or Else. Intimidation tactic.

What is dismaying is the whole misreading of the sense of the constitution, a free press. Where are the larger minds in Congress, those with historical stature, that understand fundamental freedoms? Do presidential aspirants support this?
The bill will layer the media with administrative burdens that replicate all the paperwork rats nests that are swamping government processes with idiot work across the nation.

On the first. The complete sentence reads – ‘Common sense tells me that DOH should be investigated to vet its parochial findings’.
The word vet has bee a word (over)used in FV so anyone can use it provided however he understands the meaning of the term. If you wish to question the use of the word parochial, it is so because apparently, other than DOH itself, no other office counter-checks the observations or findings issued out.
In short, to the other chopped sentences raised by Mike, he must present the whole sentence or statement for the sake of not being misunderstood. And accept my thanks.
