According to winningtheweb.com, there are 13 types of Blog Posts, Gyutae Park writes:

  1. How To Guides
    - These are the authority guides that top bloggers use to attract links and build exposure. If you want to build a long term site with a large readership, writing useful content is definitely the way to go. Dosh Dosh and Problogger are great examples of bloggers who constantly provide quality how to guides.
  2. Informational
    - Informational posts contain … information. They’re mostly based on theory and facts and are usually great resources – sites like How Stuff Works.
  3. Link roundups
    - I wrote a post about the advantages of link round up posts. Linking to other relevant articles in your industry can be beneficial for all parties.
  4. News
    - Someone’s gotta break the news right? I don’t recommend smaller blogs do this, but writing news type posts can help a site to gain trust and authority. Search Engine Land, for example, has come on strong over the past 2 years in reporting search-related news.
  5. Lists
    - Lists are short, easy to follow, and great for attracting attention. Because of this, they are frequently used on social media sites like Digg. If you notice, this very post is a list.
  6. Rants
    - Strong feelings have to be let out right? Rants can be humorous and relieving for the blogger. If you’re going to rant though, make sure you’re not going to regret it the morning after.
  7. Life Streaming
    - What did you have for breakfast this morning? What will you be doing later this week? Life blogging has become increasingly popular the last couple of years, especially with new services like Twitter and Facebook. Feel free to life blog all you want – no guarantees that
    anyone will care though.
  8. Live Blogging
    - Another form of blogging that has been effective is the live reporting of different events like sports games, conference sessions, and business meetings. Tamar Weinberg and Lisa Barone do an excellent job reporting on search conferences.
  9. Reviews
    - Ah, the paid (or non paid) review… Bash on a product, praise a service, or describe your experiences with a company. There will always be a strong demand for reviews – if you can make money from them even better.
  10. Opinions / Perspectives
    - The great thing about the blogosphere is that it enables a diverse group of people to share their thoughts and opinions about any topic imaginable. In my opinion, opinion posts are natural to blogging -every blogger should frequently inject their own thoughts on a matter.
  11. Picture gallery
    - Bloggers frequently use posts in order to display a gallery of photos followed by their commentary. This is a great way to highlight a few key images to receive more exposure – something that can’t really be accomplished with photo sharing sites like Flickr and Picasa.
  12. Video posts
    - Videos are becoming more and more common on blogs and are more effective in engaging readers. Mark of 45n5 and Shawn Collins frequently use videos to complement the content on their blogs.
  13. Promotional posts
    - Of course we can’t forget the promotional posts – the contests, marketing promotions, and plugs. Bloggers use promotional type posts to build their readership and gain new contacts.

I assert that of these, 13 types of blogs, the importance of credentials varies according to the type of blog and for each blog type – the topic genre .

The items under the column “Importance Given to Credentials” is just a starting point for discussion and may change over time.

What type of blog is FV? Is FV an Opinion/Perspectives blog? Is FV  a News blog? Is FV a Rants blog? Is FV a Life Streaming? Or does FV intend to be a little of each?

Based on the type of blog that FV perceives itself to be, what is the importance given to credentials in FV? Or is it based on the type of blog post

As a newbie on FV, I am aware there might be legacy issues that have yet to be resolved and it may not be resolved.

Time to do the math and connect the dots?

Doctor of Humanities honoris causa. That’s the credential we need! :-)

  2. Primer C. Pagunuran Primer says:

I wrote an earlier blog, “Should journalists be credentialed?” which discussed whether or not journalists must have to pass a kind of licensure examinations prior to the practice of their profession.

In the contemporary setting, it would not be necessary – suffice to say – that there ought to be a controlling mechanism called the Code of Journalist’s Ethics. With a code, journalists would know the limits of their press freedom as well as might help to identify so-called ‘envelopmental journalists’ (paid media hacks).

In the blog you presented, it would seem that there is not yet a well defined set of parameters across all types of blogs. Knowledge, experience, or professional certifications hardly guarantee that a blog is popular, informative, linkable, attractive, opinionated, promotional, trustworthy, authoritative, et cetera.

In the end, common sense will still guide the way.

      Primer:

Looks like “common sense” ain’t common.

I reallly dunno what’s up with this pissing contests am seeing lately. I am reminded why I don’t join any of the traditional Fil-Am associations – they just can’t get along, backstab each other, sheesh.

It’s like these people have such onion-skinned egos and onion-skinned hides that need to be protected with their credentials.

Don’t people here have any civility in their conversations like civilized people do? This is getting old.

I left the PI so that I don’t have to see all that trivial parochial squabbling. Sigh, the technology, just takes PI to you via Filipino channel, blogs, celphone.

Just when you think that maybe there’s a change in PI’s atititudes, dang, whaddya know – it’s gotten worse with schmoes and schmucks riding blog shotgun. WTF!

It’s simply amazing how all this kabulokan gets all all the way to the blogsphere. No wonder, hanggang ngayon ang Pilipinas WALANG ASENSO.

It’s a frrakking waste of time to be squabbling like grade school children when there are bigger issues out there needs all the collective thinking power – and the best thing that Filipinos do is have a pissing contest.

Dang, folks can have their soap opera blogs anytime – same old sh*t

and this commenter is another type of blogger according to my friend.
    COPY PASTER BLOGGER . hohum

    • BongV BongV says:

      Whatever floats your boat.

In case you are looking for mini-Cats, it ain’t happening.

Stick to your soap opera and COPYING AND PASTING of videos from the net :D
And give credit naman to your video sources even if they have a watermark in the video.

      take your own advise.

    • GabbyD says:

hey, cat, why so snarky? copy pasting isn’t bad, links aint bad.

infact thats what the internet is for di ba? the links to actual source articles?

  4. Phil Manila says:

As FV netizen for over a year, I say many bloggers and commenters/reactors are like the Mad Hatter. People like to hang around here and have tea (Starbucks coffee nowadays) in order to ‘murder time’

And like the Mad Hatter’s tea party, blogs are characterised by ‘switching places on the table at any given time.’

Some reactors say somewhat short, personal remarks, rhetorical questions, ‘asking unanswerable riddles and reciting nonsensical poetry,’ all of which eventually drive some Alices away.

credentials in la-la-la-land.. oh lalalala… who wants to be the first credentialed certified jackass
pussy fighting …. complete with mud… and audience
      shag ga licious baybee :D

who wants to be the first credentialed certified jackass pussy fighting ….

        BongV,

Now, now, now! I thought CHANGE has come to FV?!

      • BongV BongV says:

        reyna:

I dunno what the hell is going on here – and i don’t wanna know either.. lol.

I feel like collateral damage in a shooting gun battle – “sibilyan lang po kami ser”
was browsing through the chatter – other posters want credentials?
let’s give ‘em credentials – I’m a certified jackass though not as hung as one.

        So what next?

kidding aside – if these were my posse, I would have long said “chill out dudes, let’s have fun doing this”

that’s just about it – have seen enough of flaming threads since ’96 – that time, we were still doing BBS relays on FidoNet. After that, Internet was still thru the academe – either dial up to Xavier U in CDO, or direct to Univ of San – Carlos – exchanges were done thru the alt newgroups using Eudora. Then came the static sites – Web 1.0 – made a killing developing sites locally and overseas. On the side, hangin out in IRC, then Instant Messaging later. Then came, web-based content management systems like Joomla, Mambo and Drupal (in contrast to using Dreamweaver and Frontpage) – and more recently blog-centric content management platforms like WordPress. Through all these phases of the Internet’s evolution – these flamings were a given.

All these intramurals is such a turn-off, it gets old (“nakakasawa”), I had high expectations but I guess it’s time to lower those expectations – and take it like everything else, with a grain of salt.

    Rules that are missing:

    1. Be kind to fellow Blog Posters. Kindness in words will get you
    a long way in relationships.

    2. Opinions are just opinions. It is up to your common sense and
reason to believe an opinion. If you disagree. The Blog Poster is entitled to his or her opinion.

    3. Have a good sense of humor. If you take life with humor. You dont
    need any psyciatrist.

    4. Blog Post with sense. Happy Blog Posting !!!
