No to Fascism! No to Racism! Never Again!

Every generation of human beings forgets the lessons of Freedom won by their ancestors. This seems to happen in fairly short order right after a people have liberated themselves from a fascist dictator and tyrant like Ferdinand Marcos. If Filipino Voices stands for anything, and inspite of any differences of opinion we may have on other things, let it not be said that we here have ever approved of, or supported the restoration of any dictatorship, benevolent or otherwise. If the Twentieth Century and all the history of freedom and democracy have taught humankind any lesson, it is that we must never, ever let our guard down against those who would, even by tinkering with what they fancy to be their brilliant minds, lay the groundwork for and rebuild the foundations for the absolute rule of any one person.

Though I have been an ardent critic of the institutionalization of Edsa People Power, and certainly of the Edsa Dos coup d’etat, I stand foursquare against any clever argumentation that encourages another fascist dictatorship. I say proudly and with fervour burning–

NEVER AGAIN!

  1. BrianB says:

    So what’s the context here?

  2. DJB says:

hahaha! sorry to wake you up BrianB. Pick it up here and here and here.

It sounds to me like Benign0 supports a “benevolent” dictatorship as a solution to his claim that the Philippines is damaged culture. He’s the only Damaged One, and while I’ve always encouraged a free flow of ideas, it doesn’t mean there aren’t some ideas that deserve a good thumping on the misguided heads that channel them.

    • BrianB says:

well, very smart people are supposed to be easily seduced by fascists and dictators.

    • Asian countries need dictatorship … Most of all Flippinos! FlipPinos are IRRESPONSIBLY DEMOCRATIC AND RECKLESSLY RELIGIOUS …

      • DJB says:

Yup Renato Pacifico, you are not only right, you are living proof of your own claims. Better double that dose of lithium.

      • UP n grad says:

nice metaphor… recklessly religious… worthy to be plagiarized.

      • You can go ahead plagiarize. It’s not copyrighted.

Dean, how in the world you know i have bipolar disorder? My pscho released my information in the web? You hacked into his server? Dang, I told you guys nothing is sacred in the net anymore…

Lithium is expensive … I’m popping lithium battery instead … :)

    • Phil Manila says:

      What is this Super DJB?

Like GabbyD, I noticed some change to boorish attitude, Dude. Is the dynamic duo of benign zero and bong valedictory getting into you? With the help of Pekeng Peryodistas, we will overcome them.

If you’re having a bad hair day, wear your nice hat avatar for better vibes. :)

  3. I really was taken off my seat not knowing what might have provoked DJB to advance an opening statement as serious as that only to find out little-minded benigno summoned him to react.

djb, I didn’t know we have to take this ‘wordsmith’ seriously on most stupid things he says. He is collecting ‘mental furnitures’ that he simply rearranges here and there each time he posts his blogs.

Many, not few, are fooled into admiring this writer. Now at least I know there are 2 of us, not the song. We cannot be possibly had with a little cheap theory of things. He speaks of politics without knowing where the ground is.

If I ask this dude if he ever worked in government, what do we have to hear from him? I honestly don’t know but I suspect he knew nothing.

  4. Bert says:

DJB, I copypasted this piece from ellentordesillas. This is suppose to be part of the Judge Lorredo’s order transfering Lozada to the senate, but I have my doubts as to the authenticity of the wordings in the order because it seems not of the ordinary.

If we are not going to violate any rule or policy, do you think this topic is worth discussing here?

    Copy pasted from ellentordesillas:

“Why this case is not to the best interest of the first couple—

“Since Defensor is not a trial lawyer, he apparently has not seen the very explosive potential of this case: the first couple (Gloria and Mike Arroyo) may validly and legally be dragged into the proceedings by Lozada’s defense team. All that the defense team has to do is invoke certain provisions of the Rules of Court. As a fair and impartial judge, I shall have no reason not to grant such request.

“It is true that evil, cruel and vindictive regimes can use the law to make their enemies suffer, but it is that very same set of laws that can enable the oppressed (to) fight back. Such is the beauty of the law: that is why many have fallen in love with the law and have become lawyers or judges. As a child, I have dreamed of one day becoming a judge, to apply the law not to destroy lives, but to make lives better. Now, I am in that position, with the help of God. I dispense justice everyday with the aid and guidance I always seek from our Lord.

“When this case goes to trial, I will of course allow the prosecution every opportunity to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.”

    • Bencard says:

bert, just a cursory reading of your excerpt convinces me that it was not written by a lawyer, let alone a judge, but by some lawyer wannabee who is a third-rate politician and/or “journalist”.

a judge’s decision can only be grounded on law and the evidence, not the judges’ own punditry, personal opinion, moral persuasion or political philosophy. for instance, saying the case is to the “best interest” of the first couple” is definitely uncalled for. also making a not-too-subtle suggestion as to what the defense should do and how he (the judge) would rule on it is presumptuous at best, and unethical at worst. and who cares what he dreamed of as a child?

i wouldn’t be surprised if it was concocted by tordesillias herself, or even by djb (lovl).

      • DJB says:

        Bert,
I agree with Bencard on the stated general principle and could not believe it myself. But Bencard should read the original and weep:

        http://www.scribd.com/doc/15002103/Judge-Lorredo-Order-4-May-09

(this is a PDF of the Court’s official copy)

Neither Ellen nor I could ever get away with or consider such a crime as Bencard is accusing us of.

Whatever his opinions are on the matter:: go tell it to the Judge, Attorneh.

      • Bencard says:

why, djb, could i not tell it to the readers of FV whom i believe is, collectively, far wiser than the honorable judge?

  5. Bert says:

Here’s another piece purportedly by Judge Lorredo I copy pasted again from ellentordesillas:

“I need not search hard nor should I wait long, for Manila Mayor Lim and the many senators who wish to take Lozada into their custody may move that they be deputized. Some of these people are lawyers, some of them have extensive police experience, like Mayor Fred Lim and Senator Ping Lacson. They can arrest, handcuff and put behind bars any fugitive.

They are no match against the PSG, the Presidential Security Group? What if Sen. Trillanes and his comrades join the mission to arrest? Get the picture, Mr. Railroadman Defensor?”

  6. UP n grad says:

You have to talk to Abe (with Abe’s support of a for-lifer-’cuz-it-is-for-greater-good Chavez):
average Latin Americans are increasingly having good fortune in putting their bets in, say, Hugo Chavez and Evo Morales who are seen to be stepping up to the plate to challenge the prevailing socioeconomic order and orthodoxy. If the final say remains with the people, does it even matter should Chavez or Morales ultimately turn out to be poor choices? As long as the elections of representatives are fair, honest and frequent, chances are the principals will learn their lessons in democratic governance.

    ———-
And you have to admit, DJB, that there are Filipinos who wouldn’t mind being surprised to have a dictator on their hands as long as the dictator’s tenure is “…for the greater good”.

  7. BongV BongV says:

    Dictatorship?
    It’s a Marcos/Cory/Ramos/Erap/Gloria dictatorship;
And if people vote the way they do today it will be another dictatorship – a malignant one though
Whose dictatorship will it be next…
    Benevolent.. Malignant..
    same dictatorship.

    what else is new?

  8. benign0 says:

I have to ask Mr. Dean the simple question though:

What makes you think that I advocate a dictatorship?

    Cite specific examples plez. :D

  9. Dictatorship, democracy or otherwise CANNOT FUNCTION ON FLIPPINOS. FLIPPINOS CAN ONLY FUNCTION IF UNDER WHITE RULE!!!! Look at Flips in foreign lands may it be dictatorship, democracy or otherwise … THEY ARE LAW-ABIDIZING CITIZENS … Flips would rather be run by foreigner than be run by Flips ….

    DEAL WITH IT…IT’S A FACT!!!!

  10. Nick, I wish you could limit the word count of bloggers here. I like DJB’s post. short, concise, terse and indirect to the point. Well find the point ourselves ….

    • Bencard says:

the comment “count” should also be limited. why can’t you combine all your thoughts in one cohesive comment in a particular thread (unless called upon to explain or reply)? know the difference between “use” and “abuse”.

      • rego says:

with the way you behave here sino naman ang gustong makipagusap sa yo tungkol sa mag seryosong topic. you have made your self soooo low that serious topics that you want to discuss always turn out to be away bata!

  12. tasio says:

Fascism, dictatorships, authoritarianism can take place, for people
who are not vigilant enough to protect their freedoms. The basic
of these freedoms are: Freedom of speech, Freedom of the Press and
Freedom of Opinion. We surrender these freedoms to any dictator.
We are afraid, coerced and are hopeless in our political condition.

Any dictator will first remove these freedoms. Before he can exercise his or her authoritartianism.

Anong chapter mo? NCR?

Aba’y tatanga kaya nahuli.’

    Reckless and very not funny.

Do not trivialize the sacrifices of people, whether or not you agree with their ideology.

    Insensitive comments. Really Clueless.

Clueless is when you can’t read between the lines ;)

  16. Primer C. Pagunuran Primer says:

    Two things.

One. Judge Lorredo must take offense on the (mis)approximation just made by his fellow lawyer that his ‘work’ is hardly one that resembles a lawyer much less understanding of law. But that is the whole beauty of bloggers who can specialize in any aspect of law in the surface of FV. At the very least, when one’s claim is debunked, he or she must somehow move to ‘grow’ with due respect to those who can supply the ‘units of knowledge’ placed on question. Mountain out of a molehill? No – ‘intellectual humility’, just that.

Two. The dictatorship that DJB say rant about, has actually been replaced by another or even worse dictatorship via the People Power political technology (mob the streets, mob the media).

Now, if we put weights on the scale, the original dictatorship is, by and large, still the better of the rest. One thing is sure, those who were personally affected by the regimes they rebelled against, speak more unkindly. In other words, worldviews sometimes do depend on which side of the maze we were in.

    • DJB says:

      Primer,
The “Lynch Mobs” that I have been attacking urge a different type of dictatorship. Though totalitarians share a lot with fascist dictatorships, the Leftists have a different plan: dictatorship of the fat proletariat (altho most of those are in the Utrecht Space Station.)

It is true our world view is shaped by where we are in the “maze”. But there is no moral equivalence between Good and Evil. IN the 20th Century mankind fought but did not completely defeat both forms of dictatorship. The danger that they will return is always there…lurking in the mental viruses that were not eradicated by two World Wars and one Cold One.

We also cannot compare the Marcos dictatorship with today, except that it does feel like 1971. This time however, I ain’t goin’ peaceably.

We should not wait for the Night of the Long Knives or think that dictatorships are acceptable in any way, shape or form. We must demolish dictatorships before they get going, even in the minds of those who believe in NOTHING but themselves.

This is not a rant. This is a vow.

    • Bencard says:

maybe, if you could just put together a coherent comment that is comprehensible by normal standards, i could dissect and rebut it, if necessary, what you’re blubbering about. stop trying hard to sound profound. you just succeed in exposing what’s in your
      mind – absolutely NOTHING.

  17. Primer C. Pagunuran Primer says:

Clearly, I am pretty more kind than you think you are and I no longer have to use stronger words, the intellectual framework of which is a matter of tribal ritual learned in school.

Pssst. Don’t look now but somebody here is off on another one of his tililing rampages. :D

  19. Heavy words…but empty.

  20. bonifasci says:

Maybe not exactly a “Fascist State”, or even a necessarily a dictator, but the Philippines certainly needs STATE CORPORATISM and the reorganization of labor and management into industrywide vertical trade unions.

Fascism is not racist and is ideologically very different from the racial supremacist beliefs of Nazism or National Socialism.
