Barack Hussein Obama II, 47, the son of a Kenyan Muslim and a white American from Wichita, Kansas and the junior United States Senator from Illinois is America’s 44th President.

Obama is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School, where he served as president of the Harvard Law Review supervising about 80 staff editors. Before entering politics, Obama was a civil rights lawyer and worked as a community organizer. He is the author of two best-selling books, Dreams from My Father and The Audacity of Hope.

Obama has admitted that his great moral failure was having used marijuana and cocaine during high school.

Two days before the election of Obama as U.S. president, or on Novemver 2, 2008, his maternal grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who had raised him from age 10, died of cancer with his half-sister Maya Soetoro-Ng, an Asian-American, at her beside.
