On A Nightmare at a Golf Course: A Cynical Worldview

“The world has gone crazy. Two politicians beat up a defenseless 56-year-old father and his 14-year-old son. At a golf course. I swear to God, I thought golfers were decent people. You would think politicians were decent people. I guess not. I guess they gang up on 56-year-old men and beat up pleading 14-year-old kids.”

The worst day for Bambee dela Paz is a defining moment of her life, just as 9/11 was a defining moment for George W. Bush. Her family’s tragedy happened on a golf course and for many of us their experience must be surreal, and none of us can imagine how her world has been turned upside down. Innocence lost.

Who can imagine such barbarism? The explosion of anger at what was done to her father and her 14 year old brother is a shot that has gone around the world and continues to rage. Sparks’ Impunity and Golf, Ding’s Of Thuggery and Courtesy Resignations, to misteryosa’s on politicians beat up defenseless dad, 56, and son, 14, over golf, to momblogger’s Mayor Nasser Pangandaman Jr Mauled A Father and Son at Valley Golf and Country Club, which has many more links to news and posts on this.

This story has made its way to digg. So go ahead and digg it, I’ll wait.

Done? great.

update: MLQ3 in Impunity asks, Are we confusing the forest for the trees?

The danger is to confuse the forest for the trees. We are susceptible to doing this: shrieking over Estrada’s threatening to run for office, while overlooking the President who cynically released him with a pardon; twisting Cory Aquino’s comments out of all recognition while overlooking how truly mistaken everyone was, to think the President would be a stateswoman and not a thug in skirts; wringing our hands over Mar Roxas’s cussing when no government since martial law has so thoroughly justified cussing because of it’s crossing every line, written or not, expected of officialdom; placing traffic and corporate premiums over public demonstrations of outrage; venomously scorning Jun Lozada while overlooking the officials who wanted him rubbed out and who very nearly managed to do it.

The Japanese had a chance to be welcomed to the Philippines, as they were in many other parts of Asia, as liberating heroes, except they proceeded to slap Filipinos who refused to bow to them; and so, resistance was immediately sparked, even among those disillusioned with the Allied cause. Again, I’m not saying this appalling incident will accomplish anything more than inspire horrified tut-tutting over how tasteless, and ungentlemanly, the President’s official family is. But you never know.

My answer is yes, we are. We have been.

The truth is, these things happen quite often. Not in the exact same thing, most certainly, but the arrogance of power is here and continues to grow unchecked. How many missing are there is this country? How many crimes go unpunished? How many tragedies have shattered innocence?

Let me play the cynic.

This is how Bambee’s and her family’s life will go, now that Old Media has gotten hold of it. The noise it’ll generate will run its news cycle.

The news cycle will assure that a case can be filed in court. And Mayor Pangandaman Jr’s people will be hard at work to get him a get out of jail free card. He will be treated most assuredly like a leaper. If Arroyo had any good sense then Secretary Nasser Pangandaman’s “courtesy” resignation will be accepted.

That’s a huge IF.

Most assuredly these people, complete and secure in their arrogance are hard at work securing their jobs and position. They will be calling in every favor and promising their very soul to get out of jail— and maybe keep the cabinet position their family has been favored with.

Ms. dela Paz’s family is neither rich, nor political. And trial in the Philippines is an expensive process: financially, politically and an exhausting one for the soul. Two years— maybe three years later, Mayor Pangandaman, Jr. will be sentenced. That’s if the dela Paz Family is lucky and steadfast and determined to see it through.

It is not unimaginable that this could drag on for more than that.

We need only look at what is happening to former Governor Antonio Leviste, a “distinguished gentleman” and many others before.

If the dela Paz family is lucky, they’ll get a guilty verdict. Pangandaman will enjoy his vacation in jail, pending of course an appeal and make no mistake this will go to the Supreme Court may years from now. Unless of course something happens in between and many things can happen. We’re not even talking here about dirty tricks Pangandaman’s camp may use. Who do these people need to pay off? What happens if evidence gets lost?

Always in motion the future is.

Life has thrown Bambee dela Paz and her family a curve ball.

If you mistake this blog post as saying, the dela Paz Family should give up— then you are most assuredly wrong. The road that they will take is most certainly a long, dangerous, and all consuming path. They should fight back.

This is their life now.

Their life is next in a long line of atrocities that has been committed in the Philippines by “distinguished gentlemen” and people with power, position and wealth in general. If you are religious, Bambee and her family need your prayers. If you are a friend, then they need friends to stand by them now and going forward—for the long run. They need good people to guide them on what to do, and what steps to take.

Yes, Bambee and her family deserve justice! Will they get it?

It is one thing if corrupt government officials decide to ignore the the impoverished, enrich themselves with public funds, eliminate troublesome journalists, or even have the kapal-mukha guts to show up for a sing and dance portion at your favorite variety show.

But to beat up some upper middle class dudes at a golf course? Teka lang–Putangina, ano ba ito?

What’s next? A son of a governor beating up a famous bakla-blogger at Starbucks?

The line has to be drawn somewhere and what you see now, this firestorm in the blogging community, is the spark that will light up the powderkeg that will be the next EDSA revolution.

    Keep it up bloggers!

Soon, GMA will be faced with a difficult choice: resign due this Golf Course scandal or face EDSA IV: The Bakla Blogger Strikes Back.

    See you at Starbucks :)

The bloggers community should be brought to the provinces and just all over the country.

If the government can’t prioritize education because they’re too busy strategizing prolonging their terms and our agonies, then I say let’s tap more “funders” and volunteers. Distribute PCs or laptops with webcams to people all over the country. Make these PCs and laptops so cheap they won’t even think to sell it and just keep it. Maybe even have a monitoring scheme to check on them whether they’re eating or if someone’s sick in their household and if possible, doctors or whoever could help, help.

Volunteers will be asked to teach kids through videostreaming the basic ABCs, history, math, science, and critical thinking. You can even just engage these kids and their parents into political debates or discussions.

Yeah, quite idealistic of me. But maybe it’s worth the shot.

Then these kids with their parents will blog away their sentiments. Maybe formal education isn’t effective anymore. Maybe we need to adapt to this knowledge era.

This shall form the new face of People Revolution.

This Valley Golf Club and Country Club incident is just so disgusting.

iRan this little “social experiment”. it isn’t at all scientific, mind you. but here is how it went. I threw in 4 PCs, 2 PS3s, and 1 rockband. set it up so that the minimum charge per person is a little less than the P20 that some internet cafes charge up. It’s 15/hour and 10/hour to play games and browse the internet and 20/hour to use the playstation.

the amount earned is WAY below how to pay for the 3mb/s high internet that this network runs on mind you. Let alone recoup the hardware cost or for other expenses.

    then iObserved how it goes.

women— they’ll go for friendster and uploading pics. LOTS of pics. typical, i should say. the boys— they’ll go for counterstrike. play shoot ‘em up. And friendster.

both gender would go and play y8. a flash game site.

i can’t generalize that the women don’t play games. there are a bunch who do.

introduce them to spore— a life simulator and to sims 2, and they go and play that too. slowly. you have to weed them in. to get them to try something different.

let them play rockband and soul calibur 4… they’re interested. sure. let them browse the web using the PS3′s internet browser and they’re scared. on the ps3, they’re worried about cost and they’re scared of trying something new.

most kids would go for half an hour of play. 10/hour as opposed to the better priced 15/hour. does that say something about local culture? or is it because of poverty?

clientele includes the trashboys— those who pickup trash at the local market.

Then these kids with their parents will blog away their sentiments. Maybe formal education isn’t effective anymore. Maybe we need to adapt to this knowledge era.
This shall form the new face of People Revolution.

mlq3, i forget if it was a comment to one of my posts or a post in his blog, wrote that he had to teach his students how to do research.

what i’m trying to get at is that— the hardware alone isn’t enough to get these kids to go beyond mere friendster or mere counterstrike. you have to get them to focus and to “teach” them . they have to be shown a world far greater than the one they’ve seen. that guiding force is needed to push on ahead.

This Valley Golf Club and Country Club incident is just so disgusting.

    it is. appalling.

  5. Paulyn Duman says:

Well, that’s true. BUT I bumped into this site and that story about Bambee because I had been playing online games and been uploading/tagging pictures. Point is, these posts were too accessible to me even while I’m busy gaining points for my characters.

I am not saying we have to dismiss the orthodox method of pedagogy. That’s not my claim. I just think that maybe, integrating the blogosphere in the lives of the Filipinos, like how cellphones have been part of the basic necessities did to all of us. Didn’t we think before that cellphones were just for the upper-middle to upper classes? But who holds cellphones these days? Some people receive news through forwarded messages. Some people have renewed faith because of the daily dose of Christian quotes. Some people have improved their vocabs because of the Inday forwards. Talk about People Power. Ultimately, it helps bridging the gap.

Because quite frankly, I think there isn’t much or at least enough incentives to entice the youth to engage in formal schooling or at the very least study. My previous boss just finished 1st year college and he’s earning lotsa–more than my MA-degreed bosses. It’s not unheard of story I know, but it has been more prevalent these days than the era of our parents. More UP students work while studying (mostly sa call centers). Some don’t even finish their degree after being promoted at age 19 or 20 earning more than those who have been in corporate jobs for 5 years. Financially empowered na sila e bakit pa sila magpapakahirap grumaduate? Yung iba, ang reason na lang, valedictorian sila nung HS di pwedeng hindi sila grumaduate ng college (which is true with UP students).

Where can your college diploma really bring you?
Maybe there’s more chance in asking students to create blogs and tell them that they can earn money and awards if they are creative. Alternative recognition din aside from the diploma and medals you get from school.

But I guess I digress. My point is, the blogosphere has proven its power and I know you agree. I guess our point of contention only lies in our different beliefs on whether or not these kids will click on informative blogs or just play all day.

E kung me Click-Vote (parang text vote) katulad ng PBB or i-endorse lang ni Juday ang isang website or merong billboard ads sa EDSA at sa mga sari-sari store na online games website pero me mga newsfeed? I think this has a chance. Then bloggers will have to be more creative so that more people will click on their posts. And Youtube will have another function after their live streaming.

Anyway, do you know the email addresses of these politicians and the kid? Parang gusto kong i-email at padalhan ng maraming spam. Haha! Tipong “Repent! Filipinos are watching YOU!” Sulatan kaya natin sila. Tipong mapupuno yung emails nila or yung office nila of letters na nagsasabi na abuso sila. Haha! Kapal ng mukha ng mga yun bwiset.

Hay. Another sad story from our country.

“We appear to be disturbed because upper class people quarelled over a piece of unobserved golf etiquette which resulted to alleged manhandling. We mistake the heated atmosphere in the blogsphere which is inherently elitist in make-up, as microcosm of what we call “public indignation”. Heck No!! Let these “upper class people” quarrel and even cancel each other out by dueling, so Juan de la Cruz can have a sigh of relief and one hilarious grin.

“The reason why people fail is not because they were weak, but because they thought they were strong.” This old Jewish saying is very apt to what this fucking asshole wicked Muslim Politician Nasser Pangandaman turned DAR Secretary. Dapat sa mga hayup na Pangandaman na ito ipakain sa baboy. Pero ewan ko kung kakainin sila ng baboy.

Napakahayup ng mga mag-anak na ito at tila naghahariharian dito sa Metro Manila. I really thought golf is a sports for well-bred and decent people as what some of my friends always brag to me. But apparently, my assumtion is just drop in a bucket more than a norm and this was just manifested by the Pangandaman family.

In the first place, they are public servants, and they should act like one at hindi nagsisigasigaan. Putang ina itong mga hayup na ito akala mo nasa Mindanao pa din kung umasta. E alisan mo ng mga bodyguards at baril yan ewan ko kung makapalag yang mga baboy na Muslim na yan. Sorry for my Muslim friends, but I am referring to the Pangandaman family. I am sure kahit sila masusuklam sa ginawa ng mga katribu nila. Imagine pati bata at babae papatulan.

GMA must do something about this. She should not condone this. The best way is, fire Pangandaman out of DAR and file appropriate charges. Tangna ka Nasser Pangandaman, mamamatay ka din!

The point is that, as someone in power, and being elected by your people, and appointed by no less than the president of the country, you should exercise some restraint. The Pangandaman’s could just have shrugged off the incident and smiled their way out, they opted to maul a defenseless old man in front of his kids. And they did this with arms and goons.

the noise blogs have made is giving the Dela Paz family a fighting chance! i do hope they’re going to get the Justice they so deserve. i’m not saying it is impossible to get justice— i’m saying it is an uphill battle. And the hill is steep.

in this incident, the dela Pazes were first given attention by the media and add that to the fact the natural tendency of many filipinos (including me) to hold prejudice against moros, my first reaction is anger at the pangandaman.

and i am still angry at them up to this moment. secretary and mayor pangandaman should have known better and should have acted with prudence no matter and however they were provoked. they are no ordinary citizens but persons vested with responsibility by the people.

however, i now tend to give credence to the story of the pangandamans after my friend who happens to be a member of valley golf related his brush with the dela Pazes. and so the story goes this way:

shortly before christmas, he was practicing his putting in one of the three putting greens in vally golf. in the other putting green is bambee de la Paz also practicing putting. mind you, this family of dela pazes are terrific golf players! all of a sudden, bambee, together with her mother fanning herself like crazy, joined my friend in his putting green, stroking the house balls here and there, oblivious to the presence of my friend. golf etiquette 101: this is not beig courteous. the same issue they used against the pangandamans. fortunately my friend is no pangandaman and so the scandal happend days later and not involved my friend. after around 30 minutes of pure arrogance and “i am a champion and who are you” attitude from bambee, she and her mother left my friend in the practice green with the 12 house balls strewn all around. etiquette 101 again: this is, again, not being couteous. the ball holders clearly bore the sign “replace after use.”

after i heard this story of my friend, he and i thought, well, the arrogant dela Pazes met their match in the equally arrogant pangandamans.

now, we are angry at all of them for bringing their lies to the public and wasting our time!

  17. RELS says:

    pulis na pogi,

still, this doesnt give the pangandamans the right to throw their weight around .. the same way that the dela pazes cant throw their weight around …

i just hope/wish that the pangandamans meet their “katapats” …

    2. Traffic police are notorious for their corrupt behaviour. They are known for extorting money from drivers for bogus traffic violations, and for taking bribes to ignore traffic offences.

    3. The police are also believed to be involved in kidnappings and organised crime.

And a “natural tendency of many Filipinos to hold prejudice against moros” is a reflection of YOUR prejudices. Please do not generalize.

  22. Primer C. Pagunuran karkpopper says:

Well, until a first person account comes around, let us not reduce FV to a ‘court of first instance’ – it is a total waste of time, even arrogance on the part of Bambee, the blogger to attract sympathy by way o appeal to pity.

I don’t know what really happened but signs more indicate that they were part of the problem, not the solution.

It is unfortunate that we tend to take sides simply because, it comes as if a true account but then again, everything could have been distorted by understandable bias and this exactly what happened.

Either way the story goes, let us leave the Dela Pazes and Pangadamans alone – they can take care of themselves.

Let us not respond to Bambee’s stimulus by tending toward it but instead tend away from it. The issue is for the court to decide who to jail, if it can. This having been said, must now come to a close. Enough.

  23. James G. Quiocho says:

Well I been following the story of the De La Paze and Pangadaman. I believe Golf is called the gentlemen game. I myself has been playing for years. I can’t believe that such incident can happen in the golf course.

What I can not understand most is how a public official can act the way this so called honorable Mayor and Secretary acted the day of the incident. They are in public office to serve and protect the interest of the country and its people. Being public servants does not given them the right to be wild men from the jungles of Mindanao because the power they hold came from ordinary June De La Cruz how pays taxes for them to exist. If they are the way they are in Mindanao then they should have stayed there.

Granted the De La Paze also had some fault on the issue, then maybe the Pangadaman’s should have kept their cool and amicably settle the problem. For God’s sake they are suppose to be leaders of this country. They should post as a good example for the people and not act as wild men that they are. Men with deeper understand should give way.

Imagine if they will go scat free on what they have done. What signals will this send to the children of this country? That beating up an old man and a young kid is okay because they are politicians that claims to be on self defense. (Honorable Mayor Pangadaman that is the oldest alibi in such situation. Filipinos are not that stupid po). Mayor you are only 28 years old and you can not distinguish the 14 old boy from an adult? Maybe all constituents are really small hehehehe…… How could you have been a Mayor? Pick on your own size po.

I just hope Malacanang will be true to its word to really persecute the person found to guilty and for what ever reason the Pangandaman’s are found innocent I still feel they should be disciplined. For being unbecoming of a public official. Imagine a young boy and an old man.

Madame President is this the type of people you choice to help you lead this country? A bunch of war freaks!!!

the answer to that was given by Nick here on FV in his post, “Power and Humanity“.

    iQuote:

The contention is there, but we have to ask ourselves. The escalation could have easily been stopped, considering that these Pangandamans, including the gold course itself, had enough capacity to bring this escalation to a halt, but it did not stop.

With so many officials around, with so many bodyguards, the weight of the “brawl” was in The Pangandamans favor. With so many officials around, this could have been stopped. Could have, but wasn’t. And this is the crux of the entire argument, in the end, the biggest weight of responsibility goes to The Pangandamans because they had the capacity to cease the entire incident.

In any way we look at it, a 14 year old boy was beat down, and in any society, this must never, ever happen, or be tolerated with.

  25. pulis na pogi says:

now, the official security incident report is now out! find it at http://midfield.wordpress.com/2009/01/02/valley-golf-guards-report-pangandaman-security-men-drew-guns-on-dela-pazes/

and guess what: take a look at lines 5, 6, and 7 and let me quote (with all the typo errors):

“but based to the statement of VGCCI marshall/ starter (mr elmer saguisa) at that time he talk already both parties but sudenly he was not expected that argument was not settled.”

aray! now, where did this detail first appear in the blogsphere?

answer: from the post of brianna asal above, posted on the 29th of december or 3 days after the incident and i cut and paste:

paragraph 3, lines 7 and 8: With the said explanation, del Paz replied “Okey, kortesiya lang.”

paragraph 6, lines 5 to 7: “Nasser Jr. reiterated to the marshall what he explained to the elder dela Paz, which his knowledge the former already accepted his explanation.”

paragraph 8, lines 3 and 4: ” “Akala ko po, Sir, nagkaintindihan na ho tayo kanina”.

another answer: from the post of p that only appeared yesterday, or 1 week after the incident: and i cut and paste again:

paragraph 6, line 14 and 15: Thinking that things had been cleared up, Mr. dela Paz said, “Okay, kortesiya lang” (”Okay, just seeking courtesy“) .

paragraph 8, line 8 to 12: During their break, the marshal approached Nasser Jr, stating that the dela Paz’s were complaining that there were five of them in their group and why they overtook the dela Paz flight. Nasser Jr. reiterated to the marshal what he had already explained to the elder del Paz, to which his knowledge the former had already accepted his explanation.

aray again. now why are these very telling details not in bambee’s blog? it is now clear as daylight that before the fisticuffs started, even the mashalls thought that the overtaking issue was already settled! ask mashall mr elmer saguisa!

    aray! aray! aray!

Oh and there are still more damaging facts on the way against the de la Paz.

    You are so OWNED, dude.

I just spent some time with the head of the fact-finding committee. He has submitted all pertinent facts to the board and leaves it to them to make the necessary decision based on all the facts. I will outline the facts to you as it was outlined to me. Rest assured that the facts were obtained from all parties involved and all witnesses at each incident site. The statements were obtained both by the valley fact-finding group and by the NBI as well. Testimonies were recorded, verified, and re-verified. Fortunately for the parties involved, there were always witnesses to give supporting statements on the events as they occurred.

i now wonder what is take of the de la pazes and their apologists on this?

  28. pulis na pogi says:

for those who care to read, here is rge’s post (mabuhay si bill gates for the cut and paste technology!)

I will compose the outline shortly as it will be lengthy but just to whet your appetite or get you thinking, you will be quite surprised with the findings. Let’s put it this way, the people we thought of as villains weren’t quite what they were depicted to be. and the supposed protagonists may have yet been quite as factual in their testimony as it turns out to be. Even our 14-year old isn’t as innocent and “prayerful” when all the details come out. just give me a few minutes….

In the interest of making sure that no facts might be left undisclosed, I will take it upon myself to start from the very beginning. Firstly let us start by saying that on or at about 12:40 p.m., the party of the Pangandaman’s registered at the starter’s area. They registered for 2 flights comprised of 4 individuals per flight. Unfortunately, they still had 2 members of their group that had not yet arrived, so they initially tee’d off as 2 successive threesomes. The starter and marshall were informed that the 2 individuals that had not yet arrived would just catch up with them in the fairway. On or at about 1:05 p.m. the Dela Paz group registered initially as a twosome but since this isn’t normally allowed, they registered as a 3-some even if the elder Mr. Dela Paz was not really going to play.

When the Dela Paz 3-some was playing on hole number 3, they were passed by 2 golf carts containing Mayor Pangandaman and his companion (in one cart) and the caddies being brought by one of the starter personnell. The Pangandaman’s did not ask permission to drive through because they did not want to disturb the Dela Paz’s who were in the middle of the fairway. Upon reaching the green of the 3rd hole, Mr. Dela Paz asked the caddie why the people in the cart just went through. Mayor Pangandaman who was already positioned at the 4th hole, personally informed Mr. Dela Paz that they were part of 2 foursomes. At this point, Mr. Dela Paz said “ah okay, courtesy lang naman”. This was verified by the caddies. Mr. Pangandaman said that he did not disturb them anymore because the player was about to hit. At this point, Mayor Pangandaman thought everything was okay so he proceeded to the 4th hole (Par 3) where his other flightmates were. In the records it says that Mr. Pangandaman was not yet even done pitching into the green when a ball landed near his 8-year old child so they immediately made sure the child was secured in the cart. ( For those unaware of the common practice at Valley Golf, on every par 3, the group behind you is signaled to hit into the green once everyone from your group is already on the green) Until you have been cleared to hit by the group ahead, you should not hit into the green. It is common sense and basic precautionary procedure.

In this particular case, we have no corroborative testimony. One set of caddies say they were given clearance, while the other say that no clearance was given as of yet when the ball/s had landed.

The Pangandaman’s claim that the same situation happened in the 5th hole (Par5). Even the caddied confirmed this. At this time, Bambee Dela Paz had called the Marshall to tell him that the flight behind them was complaining about why their pace was slow and that the cause of the delay was the 5-some in front of them. Shortly thereafter, a marshall on his motorcycle appeared and approached the Pangandaman’s and asked if they were playing as a fivesome to which the Mayor said no. “We are 2 foursomes”. Nonetheless, the Pangandaman’s had already agreed among themselves that they would rather the Dela Paz’s play through. The Mayor was even quoted saying to his Father. ” magagaling yung mga bata at malakas pumalo, baka mabagalan sa atin” They informed the marshall that they would just let the Dela Paz group play through and the marshall informed the Mr. Dela Paz of this. ( Just as an aside, the investigative group actually asked the group behind Dela paz if indeed they had complained about the slow down and the group said that the y said no such thing to the Dela paz flight. They were not even in contact at anytime before they arrived at the tee house to see the fight and eventually help stop it) When the Delapaz group reached the green of hole 5, the caddies of the 2 kids gave them their drivers so that they would waste no time playing through. The Mayor, who at that time was sitting along with their companions, stood up to personally tell Mr. Dela Paz to play through. Caddies, and the tee house server claim that the Mayor told Dela Paz na “Mauna na ho kayo” and walked to approach Dela Paz, The response of Dela Paz was “Huwag mo akong pagtaasan ng boses” Dela Paz began to question the Mayor why they were playing as a fivesome. The Mayor said that this was not the case but Dela Paz was insisting and even said (again corroborated by the caddies) “Linoloko mo ba ako?” “Member ka ba dito, Kilala mo ba ako?” (as you can see, this question did not come from Pangandaman. In fact, in the recorded testimony, this is exactly what Pangandaman claimed delapaz had said to him and yet in Delapaz’ recorded statement, he never said that the mayor asked him ” kilala mo ba ako” Completely different from when the media was already involved.

When Delapaz was posing the above question, the mayor was heard to say. “Sandali lang, hindi naman tayo nagaaway dito. Akala ko ba naayos na natin yung issue kanina sa hole 3? At about this point Delapaz closed his umbrella and then poked the mayor on his stomach using the pointed end ( some caddies say Dela Paz swung the umbrella and some say that he poked the Mayor) The investigative board asked Dela Paz what he did, he said that he poked the Mayor in self defense. When asked who was attacking him, Dela Paz said that he was being surrounded by 4 men. The caddies and other witnesses on hand said that when the umbrella incident happened, it was only Dela Paz and the mayor that were talking. The other parties were in the tee house about 15-20 yards away. The Mayor says he was poked and so he backed off and just as he was about to be poked again, his brother, Hussein ran and attacked Delapaz and hit Delapaz knocking him to the ground.( At this point the commotion took place. One of the things observed is 14-year old Bino hit the Mayor with his driver. Apparently, the mayor parried with his forearm and hand so this is where he sustaned the injury. In the process also, Hussein was being pulled off the older dela paz by his 2 children but again Bino was seen to hit Hussein in the face and head while Bambee had scratched the other side of Husseins face. At this time also, witnesses say, that 3 or 4 other members of the flight excluding the Secretary, the 8-year old boy, and the girlfriend of Hussein were involved in attacking or subduing the older dela paz but this lasted very shortly and when the combatants had been separated the existing people in the tee house as well as the new flight that was playing behind the dela paz’s.

At this point the Secretary told the delapaz group to leave so as to avoid any more trouble. As the elder delapaz was leaving he was heard calling someone on his cellphone saying ” may away kami, pumunta kayo dito”
No one knew who delapaz was speaking to as he walked away towards the main clubhouse. A few minutes later, the secretary and his group decided to end the day instead of continuing to play. When they got to the clubhouse, Hussein wanted to wash up because he was bleeding in the neck area. As he got near the reception area, he saw delapaz and was heard to have said “O, nandito pa pala kayo” to which Dela Paz said “Hindi pa tapos ito gaganti pa kami”. At this point, Bino got in between his Dad and Hussein while saying ” Tatandaan ka namin” (None of the witnesses in the clubhouse, and there were many, ever saw Bino kneel and say that he was only 14 years old at maawa na sila) On the contrary, Bino was acting like anything but a helpless child. He sounded tough, angry, and antagonistic enough that the fight broke out again. At this point, the bodyguards of the Mayor ran into the clubhouse via the poolside entrance. When questioned about this, the mayor said that one was his driver and the other was his “Yayo”. As far as the board was concerned, the “Yayo” was also a bodyguard. Said Yayo came into the clubhouse with a clutchbag containing a gun and brought out the gun without pointing it at anyone. The Mayor immediately instructed him that there was no need for guns and the gun was put back. During the investigation, the Mayor said that the handgun was his and that his “yayo” was likely going to give it to him but he declined. Upon instructing his “yayo”, the man just stayed in one corner. At this time the wife of Dela Paz and his other son arrived. The son was wielding a baseball bat and the wife had a knife which she pulled out of a scabbard. These two were subdued by security but they were verbally threatening the Pangandaman’s during this time. There was also a reported incident where the driver of the mayor ran out and came back with a suitcase containing a supposed armalite as claimed by valley security. The driver never pulled it out or pointed it at anyone but it was readily accesible

Footbolero, rge and I were present when the head of the fact finding committee was describing the testimonies of all parties – including that of dela paz. We were not provided with the official written findings – we were simply told some facts that were pertinent to the incident.

my memory isn’t as good as rge but the “discussion” points were as follows:

    1) Based on witnesses’ accounts, Dela paz clearly started the fight. In his own words – “hinampas ko yung payong.” Others used words by Pagdamanan, caddies, were “poked” “tusok” etc. Dela paz used the word “hinampas” – and its on tape.

    2) On the 6th tee, during the “fight” Bino swung his driver at the mayor. There was medical evidence provided to the committee of a fracture to his hand. If a 5′6, 140lbs person swung a driver at me, I am pretty sure I will not be asking his age before I strike back (assuming I survive of course) – and strike back I will with intent to make sure he doesn’t swing that driver again.

    3) Dela Paz didn’t give Valley employees and security staff a chance to stop the incident from escalating. Per witness accounts, the dela paz family kept provoking and making threats na “gaganti sila”.

Jovi, if you want to get the whole story – come to valley golf club and make your own investigation and interview the witnesses. RGE is making kuwento and is not a member of the fact finding committee. Majority of the members/employees at Valley know what happened and very few if any are on the dela paz camp.

You are basing your facts too much on a blog and not on actual witness accounts.

Did you know there was an earlier version of Bambee’s blog? That version follows below, red highlights mine (I lifted it from the email but skipped the headers which show I received it as part of the 5th group to whom that email was forwarded):

    START
    >
    >At around 1:30 PM today, at Valley Golf and Country Club, Antipolo
    >City, Mayor Nasser Pangandaman, Jr., Mayor of Masiu City, Lanao del
    >Sur, his father, Secretary Nasser Pangandaman of the Department of
    >Agrarian Reform, and company, beat my defenseless 56-year-old dad and
    >my 14-year-old brother to a pulp because of some stupid
    >misunderstanding on the golf course.
    >
    >This is a golf course. I have been a golfer all my life, and I have
    >never seen anything like this. NOTHING. This is hard to comprehend.
    >And it happened to my own father and my own brother too. Right in
    >front of my eyes.
    >
    >My brother and I were playing golf at the South Course of Valley. We
    >were on the 3rd hole, and we see two golf carts going past us,
    >overtaking our flight, and setting up to tee off on the next hole. My
    >dad goes up to them and asks them why they would do that, why they
    >would overtake us without even asking for our permission. Golf
    >etiquette 101. One of the guys says that they’re with the flight in
    >front of us. (So what? That doesn’t give them the right to just pass
    >us WITHOUT asking.) So, we go to the 5th hole. The flight behind us
    >catches up with us, and asks us what caused the hold up. We said that
    >this flight just slipped in front of our flight. So we complained to
    >the marshall. We play the 5th hole and walk towards the next hole,
    >where there is a teehouse, and both the flights in front of us were

    END

    My comments:

If the current version is compared to the earlier version, one will miss the “colorful” language and a revealing fact, which shows it has been edited and sanitized.

In summary, I couldn’t find the following anymore:

    • But I guess the world IS fucked up, and the mayor is too,
    • end this bullshit
    • piece of jackshit -fuckin’ asshole
    • WHAT THE FUCK?!
    • He was FUCKIN’ CRYING
    • The relentless fuckhead mayor
    • (who I swear is ANOTHER fuckin’ idiot)
    • My mom had a miniature baseball bat with her, and my older brother had a real one, and they lunge to attack.
    • And what is this selfish son of a bitch now?
    • The world is fucked up

It is obvious, the piece has been edited.

What this means is the whole story was not told here. The physical violence is, of course, abominable but if this is the kind of “colorful” language that was used, then it would really be difficult to restrain oneself.

The portion deleted that the brother attacked with a baseball bat, that’s very telling. The fact that it was removed means the blog was too frank and honest to serve the purpose of making oneself the total victim.

    My take.

I should say though that the dela paz is a huge disappointment to those who supported them in this circus..including me :)

  42. cocoy, yes i saw the article and made this comment:

is that all? just a simple “This writer grants the Pangandamans their bruised feelings, if not anger at bloggers.”?

only this, after calling the pangandamans liars in an article published on january 2, 2009 when all indicators of de la paz guilt are already at fore? http://www.filipinovoices.com/the-panganaman-dela-paz-family-feud

i think gmrc requires more than that…
