The Nacionalista Party standard bearer has just about had it.
Senator Manny Villar is now demanding public apologies from those calling him a liar over political claims that he had literally “swam in a river of garbage and too poor to buy the needed medicines to save an leukemia-stricken younger brother” issue a public apology.
Dapat humingi ng paumanhin ang mga naninira. May sakit noon ang kapatid ko. Hindi ba dapat na dalhin ko siya sa (FEU) ospital (Those smearing me should apologize. Shouldn’t our famiy habe brought my brother to the (FEU) hospital)?
The embattled candidate, whose acceptability ratings as second-running ‘presidentiable’ dropped substantially in the two latest pre-election surveys, went short of threatening to sue his detractors.
Senator Villar is insisting that the accusations against, which have included alleged involvement in a 2-B land grab that victimized minority Dumagat farmer-tribesman in Bulacan are just part of an extended political smear job.
The good Senator must be missing the point: lying about being poor insults the poor, and raises questions about how honest he will be as President, if he does beat the odds.

“Kasi alam mo kapag bumabagyo sa amin, naliligo kami sa kalye, kami lahat mga bata, naglalaro.May mga basura dun kaya nasabi yan—naliligo sa dagat ng basura.” – Manny Villar
Nakaka-ALIW!
Madumi siguro kalye nila ng sobra…dahil noong ako rin po ay bata at bumabaha, ganyan rin po ginagawa namin.
Honesty and Integrity are kissing cousins.
Never one without the other.
Honest naman siya eh.
Semantics lang naman.
Although technically, ang kalye di masasabing ‘dagat’, ilog pwede pa…although I’m sure may spin sina Gilbert, Adel, at Alan tungkol sa ‘definition of terms’
Maraming kalye sa Tondo at mismo sa Santa Cruz at Binondo,
umaalingasaw imburnal kapag nagbaha.
Ding,
Naging mukhang pusali na si Manny Villar. Never lie through your teeth, it will eventually stain your face, for quite sometime.
Senor Ding,
Tambien para dos bandidos. Ang sinungaling at ang magnanakaw ay mag-asawa.
Pero balita ko, hindi sila naghahalikan bagama’t may pa “‘te gusto y ‘te amo.” Pero no beso.
Happy Easter!
Dean
Palagay ko what his handlers should have properly projected was they used some literary license in the ‘lumangoy ka na ba sa dagat ng basura?’ rather than have let it run so long that people were left with only the literal understanding of the words.
So now their principal’s been boxed in.
well, Manny Villar INSISTS it IS literal with no metaphorical connotations.
Magandang post-election thesis ito ng mga mahilig mag-semiotics. Har har.
Actually pinapaliguan tayo ni Villar ng basura
Wow, he never thought it would come out? Quite the middle class user–and there are many in this country–isn’t he?
As we get closer and closer to May2010 when voters cast their ballots,
I am still not clear what Villar (or Noyioy) will do different than GMA about Mindanao (regarding (i) the separatists/law and order; (ii) jobs-creation development programs for Mindanao, electricity-grid and other infrastructure programs).
I also do not know what Villar (and Noynoy) will do different than GMA with regards OFW’s–(i) how Pinas treasury can get more taxes from OFW’s; (ii) changes to Dept Foreign Affairs to provide better services to OFW’s; (iii) if they propose new policies and incentives so that Filipino college-graduate and other professionals (especially teachers, nurses, doctors, engineers)serve 4 or 5 years first in Philippines before they go work in Singapore, Abu Dhabi, HongKong, England.

Who of the presidentiables are pro-NUCLEAR?
As Batman would say. Quickly Robin, to the bat cave. We still have plenty of time to put another Billboards up in Tondo. Kazooks…! Boinkkk…! Kapowww…!
WATCH OUT FOR THE BILLION PESOS MAN! HE WILL UNLEASH THE POWER OF HIS
BILLION PESOS!!!
In what manner eq? Outright vote buying, you think?
you wish?
Take your speculation. A Billion Pesos can do a lot of MIRACLES in Philippine Politics. This is the reason Politicians use their offices to get ultra rich: (1) to stay in power and (2) to have more power; like being President…
Ding, there’s a huge amount of vote-buying going on in the provinces even now. P 250,000 per kagawad in some parts. Let’s discuss elsewhere…
equalizer,
That’s the billion pesos he took from your pocket and, the rest of us Filipinos. Unleash that “BILLION PESOS” para wala ng mga “POOR” and, dagat ng “BASURA”
mario,
Three letters ring in my ear quite repeatedly – ROI…
Incidentally gents, my SEC sources whisper that the man earned some P6B in his recent IPO.
Sabi P7B
…atsaka yan na ang pinaka-scandalous na IPO sa buong mundo.
You do an IPO to raise capital for the company not to raise money for yourself.
Kawawa naman yung mga investors…hahaha..Can you imagine if Brin cashed out on his Google shares 100 days after the IPO?? Still, I can’t feel sorry for those who bought shares for a fool and his money are soon parted.
Yes Ding, lahat tayo would love to have a piece of that pie. Pwede kaya?
so is he lying?
You think?
there are three sides of the story. The party, the other party and the truth. Take your pick.
The truth? Trabaho pa iyan.
Who needs the truth when you already believe, heh heh heh.
Laban!
noemi,
I will have to pick the “truth”
Then again, the two parties will have to sum up their own conclusions to the fact. LOL!
i dont know.
thats why i asked.
surely, we can KNOW if he’s lying or not.
these things are verifiable, right?
is anyone interested in veryfying? please :)
“Senator Villar is insisting that the accusations against, which have included alleged involvement in a 2-B land grab that victimized minority Dumagat farmer-tribesman in Bulacan are just part of an extended political smear job.”
However, surrounding oneself with kids singing a happy jingle to overlay one’s stained being with innocence is a perfectly acceptable distortion.
Joe
Joe isn’t”acceptable distortion” somewhat oxymoronic?
Using genuinely poor children as political propaganda props is exploitative as it is ‘puke-inducing, I submit.
yes, Ding,
puke inducing,
Joe
Villar is a businessman. The people cannot demand nor claim that Villar owes an apology to the people. The story is not the government that people pay taxes or like the Hacienda Luisita which by law was required to distribute its ROI. Looking at it in the business standpoint, Villar regardless of how he plays the market ( poor or middleclass) , he still remain to be one of the biggest employer of this country.
Between Noynoy and Villar, Which candidate is experienced in employing people? And please don’t explain about corruption. This country has anti graft and corruption policy responsible to implement honesty and the ethical standard in private and public service.
In the end, it will either be GIBO or Villar that can grow this country GMA, ERAP and FVR will help and guide. Whether you like my comment or not, that’s actually how our government should do, to work as a team, gather intellects and strengthen the rule of law.
“he still remain to be one of the biggest employer of this country.”
You must be hallucinating.
Agree nash.
I’d like to see actual stats on the jobs created by his housing projects.
no need to use stats, labor expense constitutes a large part of the construction cost and the quantity of labor hours in performing a task in the real estate industry plus all the professionals in marketing, PR and advertising. any business cannot grow without people unless you are hiring a robot. A house cannot be build without people. A C-5 cannot build without the home buyers paying property taxes to the government. Who developed the community? On campaign spending, someone is getting paid including journalists, PR managers, tv stations, radio and many more. Let the guy spends his billions. If he will not become president, he would still be considered a winner in the business of employing people.
This blog is too political without considering the economic side… it won’t sell.. :*)
Truly. You have no idea.
kung hindi umabot ng isandaang libo ang naging empleyado ni Villar
hindi iyon binibilang, heh heh heh.
Leyt,
C5 is a highway system, you make it sound like one of his (Villar’s)real estate projects.
No need to explain further.
Nothing beats slex to Bicol
I mean Slex reaching Bicol
karl,
and you make it sound like there’s no C-5 extension or insertion. and you sounded like labor expense is not important to this campaign. expand that imagination instead of slex to bicol. that’s not even a good argument.
Lila,
Yes I am following the news. On break-up, i can only speculate negative and positive outcome. Negative in a way that it is not good for GIBO and Noynoy but Villar. ( please apply campaign and labor strategy :-*).
Positive for GIBO in a way that he is independent, disconnecting himself from GMA. Positive in a way that those 30% undecided -educated voters who are anti-GMA will vote for him. The break up will eventually strengthen the weakness of lakas kampi. So let’s see and I am still for Gibo dear… :) It’s too early
leytenian,
unlike others, i am not giving the c5 double insertion the benefit of the doubt. not by a long shot.labor expense is a non issue in this campaign or any campaign, you mean to say all that worked for villar is going to vote for him, there is always the chance of biting the hand that feeds.
i am also disputing your claim that villar is one the biggest employers in the country
karl,
how can you dispute my claim that ” Villar is one of the biggest employer in this country. ” I did not say he is the biggest. I said “one of the biggest”. It can be interpreted as the last one on the list. hehe. you see, nakalusot pa rin ako.. happy easter karl… *)
Happy Easter!
leytenian, I guess u missed the news about the Lakas break-up? It’s a pretty major fall-out this time. I gather your Gibo has finally had an epiphany and the consequences may be crippling for the party…
Lila,
That last Sunday, Gibo had an EPIPHANY. But came that Monday, he had an AMNESIA. Where did all that scholastic went to. Friday jokes lang. LOL!
gibo should ride this media wave and publicly reject the notion that he quit coz of frustration with support from GMA.
he has already said that he quit the chairmanship to allow someone who has the time to help the party’s candidates.
now, he has to prove that the stories circulating are wrong. or, at least, deny it.
Hahahaha, mario – sira! :D
From Ding on Facebook:
THIS JUST IN …
* Gloria Arroyo has resigned as expressed mea culpa “for my will acts of corruption and violations of the Constitution;
* Arroyo admits she is plotting to be crowned Empress Gloria;
* The Entire Supreme Court issued a signed confession admitting it rubber stamps Malacanang’s illegal orders to distort the provisions of the Constitution;
* The Lakas-Kampi-CMD has expelled Arroyo for acts inimical to party interests and those of the Filipino people;
* The COMELEC disclosed it had allowed the embedding of malicious source codes to facilitate digital Dagdag Bawas under newly-appointed Commissioner for IT Virgilio Garcellano;
* Joc-Bolante has been appointed budget secretary and concurrent BSP governor and Agriculture secretary:
* Chinese Firm ZTE was awarded a 50-year contract to oversea Smart, Globe, and Digitel;
*The DoH announces the legalization of Abortion”;
* The DENR said 100% foreign owners of all industries is now allowed with focus on extraction of all natural resources;
*All media activities are put under the sipervision of a National Censorship Board.
L ;-)
epiphany on what?
he himself has said that its about getting a replacement who can work on candidate’s strategy.
that he himself has no time for it.
leytenian,
The difficulty for Mr. Teodoro is that he seems unable to circle his wagons; they are adrift on the rice plains like so many lost rubber boars looking for water. He fights with his relatives (or, rather, they fight with him), his party relationship is a mess, and Cebu seems to be abandoning him. Mr. Villar, on the other hand, uses his great and perhaps ill-gotten wealth to suck up all the support he can muster from boxers to local captains, rally poor kids around him, keep Ms. Arroyo behind him and other ways demonstrate competence, if not good values. And Mr. Aquino keeps on glowing in the halos of imagined virtue.
My guy Mr. Gordon at least has made some inroads on Mindanao.
Fascinating, really . . . this is a book in real time . . .
Joe
Gadzooks. Boats, not boars. Rubber boars, roaming the rice plains. Nice imagery, I suppose.
Stupid keyboard.
Joe, curious about those inroads u say Gordon has made in Mindanao…
Lila,
I was reflecting on a survey a number of weeks back that reported he had gained whereas Villar had slipped.
Joe
Joe,
Those who experience Philippine elections very well will say that nothing is definite until about 2 or 3 weeks before Election Day. It’s empowering to know that GIBO is the ” popular choice of the youth”. That’s his real water Joe. The youth in this country had always preferred candidate that is intelligent, idealistic, and have a clean reputation. Philippines calls for educated voters to vote for the most competent candidate. Many poor are not well informed. Yes ,they can glow in the halos of imagined virtue. It’s very sad :-(. The educational system and Comelec has failed to educate the people’s voting rights. The poor need an informed decision that popularity will never get this country ahead. It would be the same like what Bongv said “living in a pigsty” :-). As I have said, honesty at a personal level is not execution as to governance. Honesty in public service is a POLICY that requires the leadership of GIBO.
Thanks for your updated reporting. I like it better than Ding’s :DDDDDD
Take care and mobilize the white men…
your neighbor,
Leytenian
leytenian,
hahaha, thanks! and a tip of the hat to you, too.
Joe
Jobs? Leytenian, the man is a land-grabber who is also guilty of illegal land conversion! It’s amply documented. I’ll be discussing this (and even worse issues) in my part 2. If I don’t post here, it’ll be posted elsewhere — I’ll let u know.
Lila,
There was an article that Villar was ordered to pay 6.2 B to the government but probably just a hearsay. To pay back the government is a settlement ( litigation). It is an agreement between the disputing parties about the legal case, reached either BEFORE or AFTER COURT ACTION BEGINS. A settlement of that amount must be ordered by a court. Please provide a copy of that settlement agreement by a court or any documents showing that Villar is guilty of land grabbing, proven beyond reasonable doubt in the court of law in your next blog please. Villar does sound guilty in the eyes of the Noynoyish camp but a settlement charge is not a guilty charge. We must be careful of our language here because anybody can get sued.
On jobs, I will share later on why GIBO and Villar have contributed employment to this country. This is about legislating a bill that affects economic growth. And we all know that Noynoy has not passed any bill that stimulated our economy in the past, either indirectly or directly.
happy Easter
Noynoy was author of bill for addtional 10%tax on compny porfits (to be given best employees as bonus). But the bill ended as a bill at mukhang Noynoy did not work to convince Mar Roxas,Jinggoy, Ping Lacson, Enrile and others to supprt his bill. Mahina si Noynoy sa politiko with his kapuwa congressmen and senators.
Ngayon, pag presidente, pa-mando mando na lang, ganoon siguro ang tingin niya sa Malakanyang lalo na kung kontrolado niya ang pork barrel.
ganun na ba kadumi ang kalye ng manila nung bata pa si villar para maligo sya sa dagat ng basura? these are the actual photos of manila in the 50′s (not sure the exact year though): http://barriosiete.com/naala-ala-niyo-pa-ba/
BTW, if the C5 extension was an ‘interesting’ pet project, here’s what’s
coming : http://www.mannyvillar.com.ph/blog.php?blog=349
For the record the Facebook post quoted by Lila is an April Fool’s day blog post. The original is here:
http://atmidfield.com/2010/04/01/breaking-news/
you mean he has subdivisions all the way to Bicol?
I just received an e-mail.
A Saudi Arabia’s cleric … Mufti Sheikh Abdul Ma@@s@ur Abdullah Al-Sh## issued a fatwa a year or two years ago decreeing that April Fool’s Day was a form of organized lying practiced by unbelievers, and that Muslims therefore should not participate in the tradition. He made his comments in response to a query from the Saudi daily Al-Riyadh. Al-Sheik acknowledged that many younger Muslims were beginning to adopt the custom, but said, “It is prohibited because lying is prohibited at all times and under all conditions.” He noted only three exceptions to this rule: when lying brings reconciliation between people, when it occurs during times of war, or when a husband or wife must protect the honor of the spouse.”

Sa Pilipinas, exempted din iyong “son or daughter to protect the honor of the family”. At marami-rami sa Pilipinas, exempted din ang unsubstantiated innuendos or insinuations espciallly during electtons.
Who needs the truth when you believe?
Mike,
As far as April Fools Day Jokes go,mauubos ang mga politikong Pinoy.
Many of them make a career of delivering, and acting out their jokes and lies.

The “TRUTH” can be compared to the distance of the lightning and thunder in the sky. What you hear is what you see. The eyes is three inches away to the ears. Simple as that. Even a literally blind person can see the truth.
WHEN VILLAR SAYS HE IS PRO POOR…does people sees Villar and his family live a simple life?…WHEN VILLAR SAYS HE IS FOR THE MASSES…does people sees Villar and his family went to public school to study, walked to the streets and bought kwek-kwek or fishballs for their dinner and drink gulaman with magic sugar…WHEN VILLAR SAYS HE LOVES THE POOR…does people sees Villar and his family rode Jeepneys or pedicab regularly…does someone seen them walking along the streets of Recto or Amang Rodriguez or other stressful streets waiting for hours to have a taxi-ride, nahh, cause someone is doing that for them.
FOR VILLAR AND HIS SUPPORTERS
“You will never be a leader if you see others only as stepping-stones to get ahead. You will be a leader if you are ambitious for the salvation of all mankind.” – THE WAY
This is the trouble with our Politicians. They LIE! Use the poor as
Political Props. And identify themselves with the Poor (only during
elections) to hook Gullible Voters. The “TANGAS” will surely be hooked. They will vote for such Politicians. Erap Estrada is a good
example. “Erap para sa mahihirap”, a hollow political jingle. But, it
worked!
nosibalasi: ang galit na galit sa patutunguhan, hindi makararating sa pupuntahan.
i’ve finally gotten 2 read some of the articles on this “Poor thing”
issue: “dying brother sent to FEU”
from monsod’s column:
“First there is the matter of the copy of a death certificate of Daniel Bamba Villar indicated as issued by the NSO. According to that document, Daniel Bamba Villar, son of Manuel Villar and Curita Bamba, address xx (number illegible) Bernardo Street, North Balut, Navotas, died at the Far Eastern University Hospital on Oct. 13, 1962, at the age of three years and eight months, of cardio-respiratory failure due to leukemia (there is something about red cells, but the writing again is illegible), after a 13-day hospital stay. In the space for informant, the signatory is Manuel Villar, father.
Now, that Daniel Villar was brought to a private hospital-FEUH had the same reputation then as Makati Medical or Manila Doctors or St Luke’s would have now-rather than, say, a government hospital like the Philippine General Hospital, or San Lazaro, does not necessarily disprove the Villar ad contention that his family was poor. ”
Villar’s response basically, is that his family borrowed the money:
“Villar, however, said he saw no problem with bringing his brother to a private hospital in an attempt to save his life.
“Mamamatay na ang kapatid ko, masama bang dalhin siya sa ospital? Kahit pa pribado yan. Kung mamatay na ang kapatid mo, dadalhin mo yan sa ospital. Walang masama doon. Hindi masama sa isang mahirap na magdala ng kanyang mamamatay na kapatid sa ospital pag oras ng kamatayan” he asked.
The Nacionalista bet said his father asked help from a cousin, Nelly Chua, so that they could have Danny admitted to the FEU hospital’s charity ward. He said that when his brother died, they held the wake at their house since holding the wake in Funeraria Paz would be too expensive.”
so, is he poor or not?
i think this is the weaker argument…
its best to think about homes, as this is the best indicator for income level.
“Moreover, there is the matter of the address provided by Villar senior: apparently, from pictures and on-site investigation, Bernardo Street in North Balut is part of San Rafael Village, a gated community, equivalent at that time to FilAm Homes in Quezon City. A copy of the Transfer Certificate of Title for the property-which is a 560-square-meter lot-has also been provided. Now anyone who can afford to buy a 560-square-meter lot (the TCT shows that Villar senior borrowed P16,000 from the GSIS for the release of the title-which at current prices is roughly equivalent to P1.266 million) is not exactly consistent with being dirt poor.”
villar responds:
“Villar, however, said he and his fellow 8 siblings were born in a squatter shack in 500 Moriones Street in Tondo, Manila. “Squatter kami. Siyam kaming magkakapatid na pinanganak doon. Isang banig at isang kulambo lang kami. Nagtitinda kami ng hipon. Sinasamahan ko ang nanay ko sa palengke,” he said.
He said his father loaned P16,000 from the GSIS since they wanted to buy a much bigger house for the family.
He said San Rafael Village was not a “gated community” but was actually prone to flooding and had only 10 houses when they first moved in.
“Nakalagay nga gated community kasi tinitignan nila yung kondisyon ngayon but that was 50 years ago. Nung panahon na yun, ibang-iba yun. Yung lugar ay hindi class na subdivision. Katabi yun ng Smokey Mountain…Ang lugar walang gwardya. Siguro ang bahay lang nung lumipat kami mga 10 lang dahil lubog nga kasi pag high tide sa Navotas lumulubog. Walang semento o aspalto ang mga daan,” he said.”
note that he doesnt dispute the loan!
now, if you have access to funds of that magnitude, i’m not sure if you can be called poor, but i’m no expert on GSIS loans.
also, it can be independently determined if that gated village is what villar says it is.
anyone who knows the history of that subdivision?
on the history of this subdivision, someone pointed me to this FB note

Subject: RE: How Manny Villar lied and used the death of his brother Danny
To All,
First of all I am not a registered voter in the Philippines , I still vote in Australia . Secondly, I am from across a dirty river from the San Rafael Village they are saying Fenced Community in Balut Tondo. I grew up in Juan Luna and I studied near those schools. I just want to clarify things and will not let you swing your vote for Villar but will make you realize that the people who publish this is not TELLING THE TRUTH.
San Rafael’s entry is along North Bay Blvd where I used to ride my bicycle during my teen years and mind you, it’s not a fenced village. They have an entrance but that’s just an entrance without any guards – this is in the late 70s and early 80s. I was born in ILAO or ILAW street in Balut parallel to San Rafael Village entrance and we have parallel streets that is open and connected with their streets (freely accessed, I know cause I am playing there everyday). Then at the end of San Rafael is a Creek which across is Isla San Juan which is almost like Isla Puting Bato where gangs and gang lords reigns (nag ra riot dun madalas at may panaan which makes 60 percent of the patients in Tondo General).
Now whoever writes this does not know what is the area like in the 70s and 80s and now it is much worse in the 90s and 2000s since it’s full of Trucks since it’s an access way to North Harbor and C3 roads and still very poor and notorious people was driven to the corner of their lives, I know since I usually go there every weekend to meet up with my unfortunate childhood friends and relatives. I bet my month’s wage if the writer of the hate article can stay for a day in San Rafael now!
Anyway, one thing that I did not notice is what is the detailed platform of each Presidentiables on how they are going to bring up Philippines back to its feet? Only Manny Villar gave a detailed approach on this! His Competition Approach on Municipalities that whoever won in a category will get more appropriation for them to invest and prosper on what they are good at! (one of his sample is Best Crop Yield, Best Quality Fruits Yield per quarter and per year and then the pork barrel shall be released with priority on those areas who will win the categories) . Gibo have a concrete and detailed plan, matalino talaga siya? Now on Noynoy? I always keep in mind what my Tatay told me…never talk if you cannot say any good thing or things for a person! Thus, I will keep my silence.
Final Note….May Mahihirap na yumayaman dahil nag sikap at nagtiyaga….pero mahirap patalinuhin ang mga taong lumaking mangmang at nagtutulug tulugan!
Regards,
Armand”
I’m glad you finally found time to go over the revelation, Sir.
Now you know. Happy Easter.
me?
i still dont know if he’s lying or not. i dont know if the ability to get a loan from GSIS is an indication of wealth. isnt it an indication of how long you work for the govt.
i dont know anything about that subdivision either. i have no way to determine whether the critics are right, or villar.
maybe someone here knows what that subdivision is, its history, etc…
Don’t forget a detail — 16,000 was the loan, not the downpayment. Some people, ginagawang pareho iyong assets and ‘net-worth’.
Kailangan pa n’yong magbasa.
Anyways, Happy Easter, gents…
At that approximate time, I was a supervisor in an auditing firm earning P750 a month, and had an approved SSS housing loan of P15,000 which I did not pursue because, with the help of my wife’s income, I was able to buy a house and lot in BF Homes Paranaque. Based on comparative values Villar was not poor because the monthly payment for a VW was much lower than P500. I think the photo of Villar swimmming in the pool of garbage is surrealistic. Parang ipinatong ang ulo sa litrato. Did he apply a tube of gel to keep his hair well-groomed? Happy Easter to all.
16,000 pesos loan was based on Manny Villar Sr salary and years of service at that time. My father (a lawyer) at just about same time Villar’s father took a loan from GSIS, borrowed money from SSS and was able to get 50,000 pesos. I don’t think 16,000 pesos was a lot of money but I think it was enough to buy a modest house in Tondo (known even at that time to be flood area). I think it was a 2 bedroom house… still small for a family with 8 small children.
The cost and size of the house is a minor issue… I think the real issue here is the insensitivity of Noynoy and his advisers to question why anyone regardless of economic status, would take a dying loved one to a private hospital. What would a mother, a father, a brother/sister do to give a loved one a chance to survive a serious illness??? Noynoy not only showed his indifference and insensitivity to the lot of common Filipinos but he also crossed the line of decency in the conduct of his political campaign. He clearly showed how a son of hacienderos think that private hospitals are domain of rich people only…. and that government hospitals (i.e. PGH and San Lazaro) are where poor or regular Filipinos should go for treatment. Noynoy did not have to worry about getting better treatment for any illness as it was never an issue in their family. Myself … and I guess most of us would sell our house to pay for medical expenses if it meant giving a chance to a brother to live. Noynoy’s family can afford any hospital they choose which however is not the case for most of us Filipinos. This is a new low in Philippine politics… and unfortunately it is not expected to stop soon. Noynoy has no credentials to talk about so his advisers and paid propagandists thought the way to get elected is to mudsling and dissiminate innuendos.
… have a nice easter everyone!
His very political ad asking the question IS surrealistic.
it depends on the length of service and the capacity to pay of the household not only of the employee. Usually, the ITR is windowdressed.
Balut, Tondo has Tambakan, a landfill that dated back in the 50s. People used to call it tambakan so the name was officially adopted as tambakan.
It was a dumpsite long before Payatas became well known in 2000.
It was near a body of water (Balut is an island) which was black in color because of the dirt. When it rained, it overflowed to the streets.
My brod-in-law was born in Tondo and so all were his siblings who are mostly now here in the States.
Please. Anyone who has a rudimentary understanding of Manila’s cultural history will inform u that, by the early 60s, if u had a three-story house in a 60 sq m lot in the business district of Tondo, u were considered to be an aristocrat.
The old families of the Manila elite are not originally from Makati, Alabang or Greenhills — they’re from Tondo, as many historians know. Virgie Moreno’s Cafe Orfeo in Tondo was visited by writers, artists and intellectuals who have written a great deal about the area’s rich cultural history and distinguish its heritage precisely from that of Manila’s new rich. So perhaps its time u got your history straight.
Villar’s house along Moriones Street in Tondo confirms that he was never poor, never spent his Christmas on the street and never swam in a pool of garbage.
It’s disingenuous of anyone to suggest otherwise.
That is so funny! Villar parents are aristocrats? Nagkakalitohan na, malapit na talaga ang botohan.
———-
What you can say, Villar dad was not a former congressman, and Villar mom was not a former housewife.
You can say Villar billionaire rags-to-riches C5, heh heh heh, but you can’t say Villar parents aristocrats from old-political dynasties.
And people may not have been born yet or are abroad or have not set foot in Tondo when Smokey mountain operated for 40 years with 30,000 squatters. According to stats, Tondo is most overpopulated and with the most number of slum areas in the Philippines.
History will remember that it was in 1995 when the world got to notice the danger of this open landfill in Tondo so that it was closed permanently. If it operated for 40 years and closed in 1995, that must be in existence already in the 50′s. Simple math.
Tondo is a residential-industrial district after it was dissolved as a province during the spanish era. There are prime properties and there are poor residential areas. According to stats again, half of the slum areas in the Philippines are in Manila particularly in Tondo.
Tondo was where the inter-island ports are so that people fresh off boat from the south settled in Tondo either in the slum or rented aKSESORYA.
When you were living in a big Spanish house in Tondo in the 50′s and 60′s at the time when these remnants of the Spanish era were still livable, it does not mean that you are rich. Many of these Spanish houses were converted to rooms for rent that in one room , there were about five to 10 people.
I also do not believe that those who OWN houses in the squatter areas are poor. It is the people who are living there who are poor. I differentiated the owner from the tenant because many of the houses in marginalized areas are being rented out by professional squatters.
Professional squatters are the “hakots” of the politicians before election time to build a squatter community overnight. After election, these “squatters” rented out the shacks that they built; charged the tenants with “kabit” electricity and supply them with water in a balde balde system.
Since there is no drainage and plumbing system, the garbage are disposed everywhere that during rainy season, they float in the water. Even if you are not dirt poor you will literally wade or swim in a basura.
Masyado lang OA ang ad ni Villar.
I really don’t know why the Noynoyish camp even bother to verify if he is poor or middle class. Who cares. Kung OA si Villar , mas OA si Kris Aquino. Both are conditioning the mind of the poor in a negative manner. It’s not good for my people anymore. People should delete Villar and Noynoy from their memory. And focus on the other candidates like my GIBO :-) Puro negative campaigning ang pinas. sige bira, while i’m at the comfort of my home , LMAO.
that’s the spirit, Leytegirl! ikaw na lang natitirang suporter ni Gibo. lahat naglipatan na kay Villar.
Not true, leytenian is not all alone. Go Gibo Go!
My personal opinion is that Noynoy is way below par compared to Gibo…. my personal opinion is that among all the candidates that Gibo has better leadership and management credentials (Gibo has better understanding of governance, Gibo can work better with Congress and the military).
But who cares about me? What about getting inspiration from the younger generation? So do any of you know that when surveyed, 54% of those bright really bright very intelligent …..
54% of Philippine Science High School students said “Go Gibo Go!”
Nonoy was next – 19%; Gordon 3rd at 12%.
Natumbok mo leytenian. hahaha
Kris Aquino is Plastic. She changed husbands as easily as she changed
her panties…
yes the cat, happy easter to you girl.. do you have facebook? hehehe
leytenian,
wala akong facebook. i do not want to be addicted to the FB. Besides wala akong FACE. hehehe
The latest intrigue with Kris is that when her baby james was asked daw who he is going to vote, he answered Villar. hahaha
I may be laughing but it makes me think as what is the attraction of Villar to children. Was it the political jingle? The children of Ruffa, are also rooting for Villar and had memorized the song. Was it the picture with children ?
During the snap election of Marcos and Cory, one of the tsikiting gubats in the household was campaigning for Marcos. She was then four years old. Asked why, she responded with the slogan of Marcos which was easy to remember Marcos pa rin.
And then she showed the TV ad where Marcos was with his grandchildren and other kids.
noynoyish and Villarpoorish are just too funny . I cannot even comprehend why Monsod of her caliber will risk her reputation. Negative campaigning is not what media is all about. of course, noynoyish camp has nothing to offer positive to the farmers nor to the poor except promises of more dividends, distributing the land, crying with Kris on TV and using the yellow magic. Even legislating one bill that could potentially spur an economic local activity is not his area of expertise. If Mike H was correct that Noynoy tried to pass a bill to increase 10% corporate taxation , that to me is a wrong and negative fiscal policy. To spur employment, common incentives for corporate Philippines is to decrease corporate taxation as long as it will continue to employ people . That’s basic in growth. I myself will not like uncle sam to tax me higher because the first thing I will do, I will cut labor cost or fire mang juan and pedro. That 10% corporate bill is underemploying people. wowowee. Worst, in terms of networking and PR talent, he couldn’t get support. In my opinion, Noynoy really did not work hard to become a Senator. It was again a favor from his late mother.
Now on Villar, there are rumors that he was ordered by god from the underworld to pay 6.2 B for some landgrabbing dispute. But corporate liabilities can be amortisized for life or it can even defer its corporate tax payment to give way of other debts. Meaning, Villar may still be able to pay all Mang Juan and Pedro. Money talks in the Philippines.
I wish you have facebook para tsika tsika tayo doon. baka kasi ma convert ko si bert for GIBO and the rest of FB and its facebook fans. mahirap ang tsismis, naniniwala pa naman ang taong bayan… hehehe
ang alam ko, happy ako na maraming kabataan are for GIBO. It’s satisfying enough regardless of the outcome. ayyy basta, bahala na ang noynoyish and villarpoorish to fight.. problem na nila yan.
ciao..
mga students ng PSHS for Gibo. baby james at anak ni ruffa, at mga tsikiting…for Villar. ayyyy, talo na nga. hindi sila mga voters. malapit na akong ma-convert ni Leytegirl. Go Gibo, Gibo, Gibo, Bigo, :^).
Sama ako ng lima diyan, leytenian. If noynoy’s handlers have just closely observed, noynoy’s performance in the survey was not really improving.
From the 60′s per cent in the first survey, it is now down to 39 per cent. Compared to Villar, mataas nga siya. That is one way of looking at it. But the thing is, the number of people who are thinking of voting for him is declining–being cannibalized not by Villar but by Erap and some candidates who are at the bottom of the pack.
At the beginning, it looked like it was between N and V only. Now, it is free for all. People can change their preferences.
If the yellow brigades continue this myopic political strategy, I will not be surprised if they lose to another candidate.
The Yellow Brigade just focused on Villar while another candidate is inching up the ladder, getting a percentage of what he and Villar were losing due to black propaganda and negative press releases against one another.
Baka kauwian pa niyan si Erap pa ang maging presidente. arggh
It’s going to be a close fight between Villar and Erap … for second place. Latest SWS survey shows Erap going up and Villar going down, inspite of heavy TV ads. Noynoy’s rating had been consistently stable at 40%+-.
so when erap overtakes villar in the survey, that is the time the noynoyista will direct their attack to erap?
My friend, you are looking at the glass as half-full when i am looking at it as half empty.
The truth is noynoy has already lost 20 per cent of the original followers.
if noynoy handlers and nonoy himself will stop being pikon and just take note of the criticisms, he is going to win.
at least he stopped mentioning his parents, didn’t he?
And stopped flip-flopping, didn’t he?
And Kris Aquino stopped shedding tears?
In the meantime, the yellow brigades continued to invade the privacy of our e-mail with the black propaganda and some negative articles of people who are known to be Noynoyista .I just so hate it when they forward to me these mails, nilalagay ko sa spam, niluluto ko at pinapakain ko sa aso. ooops wala pala kaming aso.
The 20% loss of Noynoy actually went mostly to Erap, after he declared his candidacy. Villar is starting to nose dive after zooming up to 36%. Noynoy has retreated to his core and is maintaining ground. Any addition to Erap will now come mostly from Villar. This has been the trend since the last two surveys.
Macapili, thanks for sticking to the topic — the dissonance between the Villar myth-making machine and the actual reality — and for not getting petty or personal. It really highlights the difference between the two sides. :-)
Children in commercials…
They have now become a standard in political campaigns…
Hence, viewers beware.
Change the world

From a press release – Transcript of Interview With Sen. Manny Villar (“Usapang de Kampanilya”, DZMM):
continuation…
While it is true that the Tondo Parochial School, a coed institution, accepts poor girls of Tondo, it is not clear if Tondo Parochial School only accepts poor boys. I guess we can just rely on Manny Villar’s word.
But, how come he is still mouthing that he was transferred the next school year (from Grade 1 at Isabelo de los Reyes Elementary School) to Tondo Parochial School when the latter was already named Holy Child Catholic School in 1954? Don’t tell me he entered that school from the school’s origins and yet graduated only in 1962?
There’s a different ring to the name “Tondo Parochial School,” a far cry to “Holy Child Catholic School” obviously!
I believe he just needs to overly portray himself as a “poor” kid coming from a poor family who rose to enormous riches when all the while he was actually a “blessed” kid raised from the fruits of the labor (Read: sipag at tiyaga) of his poor parents. Why “overly” or “exaggeratedly?” He badly needs the Presidency.
It is not a doubt he is just a man of ambition, “Aim high,” as Gordon’s old slogan ran:
Well, we’ll just take his word for that…
As MVP did his “borrowing” for his speech, MBV “borrowed” too for his political ad:
New Villar TVC very similar to Argentinian campaign TVC
The original by RECREAR won a Silver Lion in Cannes 2006.

And this is how MBV reacts to “pirated” things*:

Baycas your researched inputs are admirable. Hats off.
Ding,
Thanks. I just had a much-needed break. I only did catch-up reading…as you advised.
Incidentally, a question of mine above (How come Manny still used the “Tondo Parochial School” name despite a change in 1954?) was already answered in another blog. A Manila Times article in 1965 (way past Manny’s graduation in 1962) still used the name and so Manny has no “malice” there…my mistake.
I posted further readings and comments (on the same topic of your blog post) over there at boymejoradadotwordpressdotcom.
baycas, what r u trying 2 say about this pirated movies thingie?
r we supposed to damn him for not asking if its pirated or not? i’m not sure if i want to criticize villar for not caring about where his entertainment comes from.
we dont even know if he’s big DVD watcher anyways, which would put that statement into a clearer context.
GabbyD,
MVP (Pangilinan) is in the local news…maybe globally now. It’s about his “borrowing” in the speeches he delivered in Ateneo last week. MBV’s (Villar) share of “borrowing,” on the other hand, is in blogs, tumblrs, tweets, etc.
Lack of originality really caught my attention in Villar’s latest TV ad (It being a morphed 2010 version of the original Lopez Murphy’s award-winning 2006 political ad).
Several descriptions were given in the Net: “copycat,” “plagiarism,” “rip off,” etc.
One commenter at Barrio Siete insinuated that Villar’s ad was a form of “piracy.” That’s why I appended the “pirated DVD movies” part of Villar’s interview. Perhaps Villar doesn’t really give a damn where the source of that brilliant-idea-of-an-advertisement came from…
Or perhaps the ad agency actually sought consent from the originator…subaybayan…
it’s on abs-cbn already albeit with possible wrong assertion that the post was first on B7. i believe several other blogs posted the observation first.
