Alright, the president has just finished The State of The Nation Address SONA 2008. What are your thoughts? This is an open forum, no holds-barred, analysis appreciated, reactions accepted too.
She talked about family planning, graft and corruption, educational reforms, poverty, and peace. She mentioned Mindanao, which we all thought would happen. She also mentioned a very very slightly cut down version of infrastructure projects, as compared to her 2007 SONA. She mentioned as well, agrarian reform.
She mentions Typhoon Frank and “P1 Billion” for the victims. And yes, VAT.
And here’s a gem, she wants officials to be more accountable. And she will “let no one’s political plans, threaten the nation’s” future…
So, what are your thoughts on the overall theme or non theme of her speech? Was it substantial? Was it truthful? Was it relevant? And how did you like her pink dress?

Jana, I’m guessing your professor likes to engage in discussions, where information is cherry picked? I loathe such discussions. Don’t be afraid to go against the grain and challenge your professor on this, it’s his right to not watch the SONA, but to be angry about it contradicts his profession as a teacher and a man who ought to relish when his students are engaged, not practicing apathy.

nick, it seems these are the kinds of teachers dominating our schools of today. most teachers don’t teach. they indoctrinate. they preach hatred, self-centered attitudes, extreme libertarian principles, and defiance of authority. insolence breeds insolence. remember that school valedictorian who frontally heckled the president while she was the guest at the graduation ceremony? who would want to employ that heckler? what a terrible lack of a sense of proportion. assertiveness is one thing. boorishness is another.

SONA: Do the Filipinos give some importance on it?
“It was just GMA’s 8th annual report to the nation since she was seated as a President”.
Again and again and here she’s again, The President of the Philippines, Miss Gloria Macapagal – Arroyo delivered her statements on her 8th SONA last July 28, 2008 afternoon in Batasang Pambansa, Quezon City, where lots of Filipino citizen were very mad at her. During PGMA’s SONA, it also happened that there were a mass of people conducted a rally in some places of the Philippines especially near at the place where the President stated her SONA. Most of the Filipinos were against Arroyo’s administration. They don’t like the way she leads the country. They want PGMA to resign on her position because they protested about her illegalities such as corruption. The crowd shouts for her resignation and they shouted such like this “tama na, sobra na, umalis ka na…”
For me, it seems that they don’t really think the possibilities if our President will really step down into her position. What will happen next if the one who will be placed after PGMA is more corrupt and lead our nation into desolation. For us to know it is possible to happen I think. Moreover, there is no certainty whether there is some kind of person who can really lead our nation into progress or no one can ever be it due to our ‘thought – style’ (according to Manheim, Karl) that every President will be soon corrupt his own nation and that is evil for us di ba?!

I think, her SONA gives us benefit in some (just some)ways. But I think lies were still at her words. She’s not of a good president. The hell I care of what she said whether it benefited me or not. But the only thing I wanna tell her is that, she should be a good (yes, i mean GOOD OK?!) president that is not full of LIES but rather full of ACTIONS.

Agriculture both is a business, a livelihood for the farmers, and is a key sector for our nation… the rice issue and agriculture is connected, and one must tackle it concurrently. For some, the thought is this: the issue of rice has hit us during these times when the price of oil is at an all time high. both high oil and high rice prices are related, so too is the global market demand of overseas countries, and so too is our own failure to keep focus on our agriculture especially in rice production.
@charles17, your point of view on this would probably help out too.. if this is a project, and it is important to you, then your view must also be heard, after all, original thought is key when submitting such projects, unless this is just a compilation of thoughts and ideas..
