While readers may have read the more famous Ateneo “Galilean” statement, these are other statements of support from the UP School of Economics and the National Academy of Science and Technology. The NAST statement is an official statement of an agency of the government. Under law the NAST is the highest government body that advises the President on science. We have to give the NAST statement more weight since it isn’t just mere unofficial opinion.
What I find rather strong in the NAST statement that never is on the UPSE or Ateneo statement is this
“Neither the Church nor the State has the right to play God in population and family size matters”. This is the classic Reformation position restated!
The country’s scientists have spoken.

We should fight for common sense policies that promote women’s health, allow individuals to prevent unintended pregnancies through access to affordable birth control, and protect the health of young people by providing them with comprehensive sex education.
“Neither the Church nor the State has the right to play God in population and family size matters”
very true since SEX is good :) and overpopulation is now a problem. the role of State is to keep people busy with work ( employment) while the church will advice on how to be honest at work( moral)
we can go on and on with this topic. contraception will not last long for SEX is good until the woman reach menopause :) It is also not healthy for juan tamad to keep dreaming on guava fruit to fall unto his face. sex is now juan’s entertainment. overpopulation is a result of unemployment. nothing else to do for the poor, the only thing left that’s good is SEX. :) poor- poor people deprive of freedom and sex. what a life. :)
Jared Diamond and his birds have proven sex is fun more than good! :-)
are we not God-acting when we say that a couple who cannot afford more babies should abort another one on the way? or when Roe v. Wade considers it the absolute right of a woman to abort a fetus in its first trimester period, does not the court of the woman act like God that way?
court or the woman…
@ Leytenian,
Indeed, sex is good. But raising children is God’s blessing. Like the proverbial old soldiers, the responsibilities don’t go away, they just change.
While the children are babies, you lose sleep. At teen age, you lose sleep and money. When they get married, you lose sleep, money, and every other thing.
All in 9′s:
9 minutes of pleasure; 9 months to culture
9 hours of labor; 19 years of nurture
29 years to mature; 39 before their own venture.
I say they are a bundle of joy, but better to control.
Philman,
I’m with you but will disagree on 9 minutes of pleasure. sounds like a quickie. :) hehehe
If the bill is passed and the President vetoes it, what are the chances that Congress could over ride?
The SWS said 75% of respondents support family planning. Could that be translated into the 2/3 vote needed to over ride a Presidential veto?
DJB,
What are the chances that Arroyo will actually veto the bill?
To placate the Lagdameo led CBCP calling for regime change?
the bill will pass
the president will veto the bill(rather unforcefully. afaik, if president is truly serious scrapping the bill, it will only reach committee level. the president wants this)
the bill is shoved by congress 2/3
the bill is signed with an inside grin
the president gets economic goals & avoid church ire
veto will not affect the president’s ‘public’ public opinion as 90% of 75% in sws are still afraid of the Church and will not ‘openly’ express against the veto
Sex Education is of no use to the curiosity of the youth. What we really need is a law. A law that can give the mass a mentality of controlling themselves.
Although sex education may be effective to others yet it will never be sound to those who are driven by their curiosity.
I’m much in favor in this law. Though it contradicts with the church’s principles, I think this will be the last option this country has. Not only it will help the country in deflating the population number it will serve as the start of the domino effect that will lead into a better Country. Domino effect in a way that once the population will deflate more employment will be present, decreased unemployed citizens therefore leading the country to progress.
I may not know a lot but I’m practicing my freedom of words.
I may not do a little but with others like me we can be heard!
