There has been a series of web attacks at known government websites, like this piece “NDCC Website defaced, 3rd Attack on Government Site since December.”
I’m going to be proactive before idiots running our government start making statements and saying out loud how hackers need to be taught a lesson, or how crappy their technology is or whatnut. I haven’t heard anyone mention if the Government’s IT department is actively protecting those servers. I haven’t heard from anyone if those guys just put a box together without updating or without setting firewalls and passwords properly.
I know a thing or two about network security, while I’m not the top expert in the field, I’ve been running my own corporate network for years, and yes, I’ve been hacked twice in the last 15 years or so and yes, each case has taught me hard lessons. The thing about security is that you got to keep actively defending your sites. You got to have your shields up, your intrusion detectors and your rootkit preventive tools and auditing software up to spec. And you got to be aware of the vulnerabilities in your machines, and the software you are running.
Let’s face it anybody who says they are hacked proof doesn’t know a thing about software. There will be vulnerabilities, there will be threats. Network security is an active game. The guys who play this game are smarter then you or I. Like lightyears smarter.
So I take issue whenever government issue statements about, “we’ve been hacked.” Did you guys leave the barn door open? Do not whine. Fix it so it doesn’t happen again. If your IT guys can’t defend your servers, find someone else who can.

The hackers are smarter than the gov’t IT teams.
That’s offensive dude – it’s like saying they’re smarter than cabbages. Give the hackers more credit.
this is not about government sites, but still has to do with govt IT.
what about that gsis database issue ang tagal na nung nagblog si Jon tungkol dun.
It is so easy to blame IBM,for all we know, maybe they are not telling us the whole story that they failed to address the errors immediately, until it became too late.
kahit magpalit pa sila ng rdbms kung ang IT team nila from the dba down to the encoder does not do their jobs well, ganun pa din.
I heard they are abandoning IBM, good look to the next vendor.
It’s another lame excuse that the government are promoting. One who does not protect their environment is a lame ass. It gives the government a reason, to look deeply into the internet propaganda. To stop certain informantion(s) being seen by the public. Government wants to control how the public view internet.
I should rephrase what I have just said. “It’s another lame excuse…” That would be “A LAME ASS EXCUSE” propaganda is what their after. Hello!
I have also partaken of designing security system for the Homeland Security. This is my nature of work is to design stuff. You must be given a chance to be hack, and must be able to determine that the system(s) are being compromise. But, to ignore the consequences of its vulnerability, is probably the stupid thing to do.
To give an opportunity to be hack is another. Give me your IP address I’ll hack away into your OS environment and fix, that needs fixing. These is what I call, a good hackers. One who establish a system back to its good working order. I have done it, from California to Los Banos, using protocol. The outcome, my good friend from Laguna is completely satisfied.
may dating comment mo a…

• What is[are] your function(s), as a government employee?
• Are you involve with administering Security Base system(s)?
• Also, are you aware of Cyber Security Forensics?
I have a question for you, cibasco!
Being as a government employee, you should have access to your support team. Or, do you have any IT support group at all…!
If the department of Gibo Teodoro is hackable, much more so with his presidency, doesn’t this follow?
From where I sit, it looks like everything is simply being delegated by the man who used to head the defense department where I spent my years as then protocol officer to Secretary Juan Ponce Enrile.
Certainly, he was an awesome “figures cruncher” during the height of Ondoy not knowing quickly so that the rubber boats have all been issued out, reason he can only make available even less than 10 units in the inventory.
Something of a slow foot, I would surmise. That is why generals don’t have to be intelligent, they are however required to be very practical. And they become better corporate managers unless some armchair bureaucrats like Gibo has been.
Not only the Internet populated by Hackers. There are scammers of all
kinds. Perverts of all shades. Hackers get their HIGH by hacking computers. Not only do they hack. They send computer viruses, computer
malwares of all kinds. They steal information about you. Then, steal
your identity. You have to learn to deal with them. Cyberspace is still an uncontrolable area. We still dont have that kind of technology to control the cyberspace.
He he he. He he he. Buhay empleyado ng gobyerno ng pinoy talaga…. nakaka antok.
thumbs up to mario taporco and fpj! :D
Our government should, however, consider hiring a much more better IT-PRO.
Maybe the newly created National Cyber Security Coordination Center headed by retired PNP Gen Virtus Gil has all the answers as to why and how the Gov’t website are repeatedly defaced.
tesda is hacked once again this morning..this time the hacker embedded a moving graphics of a porno girl replaced with GMA’s face.
