Today – 20 July 2009 – historically enough, is ‘one of mankind’s great moments in time’. Why? Neil Armstrong had this said to some 600 million people on worldwide TV when he first set foot on the moon – “That is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind”. In other words, in plain realism than mere idealism does a man accomplish a great achievement – not just for himself but more so for others.
To draw parallelism, is Fr. Panlilio telling 90 million Filipinos on Old Media that what looks like one small job as governor is actually one giant leap for the presidency? Put simply, can his idealist utopia against corruption in government extend realistically as far as Malacanang – in the service of politics than of the Church or the proverbial ‘City of God’?
Now, time to piece the whole puzzle together. Let us bottom-line, a bit for the purpose.
Corruption has always been a constant for a battle cry. Why not poverty which is a far easier job to address? Well, at least, the Harvard Business School defines this pestering social concern of poverty as simple as this – “It is badly distributed wealth.” By some stretch of logic, if Fr. Panlilio can distribute wealth more manageably, then I guess, even corruption would have been addressed in the unseen process. At least, perhaps, the “loot” should be equitably distributed among ‘favored patrons’? As once said, we have to ‘moderate greed’.
What is Fr. Panlilio really apt to? Like Neil who chose to go to the moon, he wants to go to Malacanang without Apollo 11 but a newly-born movement called – ‘Kilos Na Movement ‘ – a political org that would back his chosen bid.
While at this orgy, Fr. Panlilio appears rather confused whether to choose politics over priesthood since apparently, the bishops are already applying the pressure. It is said that as soon as the Pope himself grants so-called ‘dispensation’, poor Panlilio cannot return to the priesthood. In other words, what he sought to exchange for the moon, in a manner of speaking, cannot return him back safely to earth, or the Church in this case.
It is ironic that largely, Panlilio’s superiors, not just the bishops, as well as fellow priests are in the reject mode of his rather too idealistic plan to be the next president. That alone does not usher well to the priest cum politician. It is their own Canon law that says that one cannot be a priest and a politician at the same time or in the same respect?
But little did we know that when he won as governor, the good Panlilio has only an edge of 1,147 votes over that of his political rival and a COMELEC recount is actually upheld. Certainly, Fr. Panlilio petitioned against the recount. Supposing that a recount is done and yields findings that Pineda won over Panlilio, what will the state of affairs be?
From where I stand, there are no writings in the wall that would even remotely tell us that the next president will be a priest. In his own political turf alone, the priest’s brand of leadership is found wanting. And I am not sure if it is not symptomatic of unhealthy bureaucracy when the mayors under his governorship are not heard to toe his line.
To lead on a national scale is a far more difficult job. Fact is, it appears that not few political leaders do resist Panlilio’s ‘moral charm’. In short, it is not gathering adherents on territory-specific basis. Besides, who really knows about this Kilos Na Movement anyway for it to gain popular support? Thus, the case of Fr. Panlilio in the final analysis is one of the ordinary clash between being idealistic against being realistic. No one-man crusade can overhaul the whole system of bureaucratic ‘dysfunctionality’ especially in a situation of divided commitment. Panlilio needs everyone to believe in his cause – not just him alone – and it remains a tall order.

“No one-man crusade can overhaul the whole system of bureaucratic ‘dysfunctionality’ especially in a situation of divided commitment.”
Hmmm. Objective opinion which is an obvious, but not obnoxious, oxymoron.
these blokes always keep on talking about “one-man crusades” –
obviously these blokes haven’t heard about teamwork,
palibhasa Pinoy na “nakakulong” sa pinas,
can’t think outside the box =)
Why aren’t we talking about this: http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/inquirerheadlines/nation/view/20090721-216445/Rape-sparks-shock-rage ?
Fr. Ed Panlileo who became Gov. Panlileo has done his best to
fight corruption in Pampanga. He helped also improve some aspects
on the lives of his provincemates.
The recount ordered by the court is just a waste of time. Simple
political harrassment done by those in power.
Anyway, why does Gloria Arroyo and her cahoots harrass a priest
by recounting of votes? How about the large scale vote fraud they had
committed? We have good evidence of the Hello Garci Tapes.
As Jesus Christ stated: “You look at the dirt of your brothers’s eyes. But, you dont notice the beam on your own eyes”.
Or a good story I learned in my youth. The Monkey telling the Turtle
about its long tail. The Monkey does not even notice, he has longer
tail.
to Hyden: Pinoys really practice that, don’t they — that a thief does not have the right to charge a thief for stealing.
Is that a hidden-agenda-reason why “Garci” never made progress in Congress?
Primer’s hidden agenda — anti-Panlilio — is not that hidden. No different than ManuelB’s anti-Bayani Fernando agenda, both making mention of poor performance or while in office or the candidate-not-of-their-choice showing zilch promise to play in the big time.
These are paid Pekeng Blogistas writing to promote Politician’s
political agendas. Much like those Prostitutes selling Sex to
anyone who can pay.
The trouble is that these people think we have no brains!
pwede reason for not voting for the pinko – mukhang katulong :D
By the way, Bayani Fernando and others have commissioned special surveys. which ( surprise!!! surprise!!! ) put them in the top (not just top five but the top top!) for recognition and preference by Pinas voters.
How did Villar and Mar Roxas do (number 4 or below???) in Panlilio’s special-purpose survey? I never saw (but I was not paying attention to) the details, or does BF just want everyone to forget his ” special-purpose survey “ ?
So whatcha think… will Panlilio also have his own survey?
Surveys depend on your ability to pay. If you can pay good. Your
position in the survey will be good also. If you can pay the best.
You are assured of the top.
Remeber Noli de Castro. He is on top of the survey. The guy is not
even moving a muscle to aspire for Presidency. At least, he moved
his eyeballs when he saw himself at the top.
is this a blanket accusation? or are some polling firms guilty and others not?
Panlilio may be the spiritual Erap! Erap dispensed and still dispenses cinematic illusions and if Panlilio can’t shake off the priest image, then he is dispensing a similar illusion.
Also Panlilio can spill the beans on the bishops dance with the proverbial Devil of Thomas More! No wonder these blokes are opposed to his candidacy!
Another JULY 20 event happened which has meaning for Pilipinas and demonstrated GMA’s responsiveness to the clamor of the citizenry.
UP n,
There will be those who would estimate BF to be a good presidential material even maybe the subject of choice for the next president to lead this nation to ‘industrial strides’.
As there are those who hold contrary views.
Let things settle as certainly like water, it cannot rise above the source – people will have to see BF as they really see the man – performing assets of the government or the other way around.
Everything is fair – one vote, one voice.
Now, if you wish to push me to a rather unliberating situation of “damn if you do and damn if you don’t”, perhaps it becomes instructive to reflect a bit what could have been your mortal intellectual lapse.
As much as anyone, at least in the past, could in fact, float the idea of a certain preference, those who did endorse and those who now in fact endorse ought to be accorded the same treatment – civility if that be the case.
You seem to fall short of that expectation now and that is to me, rather self-deprecating, at the very least.
Any disinterested mind, reading this blog, could not possibly see what you alleged unless otherwise he would have to do a bit of research which requires having to read earlier blogs.
There is just nothing that even slightly hinted on a BF endorsement here. This is the problem of “personality cult” and cultists like you do are closed to acquired a damaged psyche altogether.
Poor you, move on the brick.
Primer: why do you comment this
about writing more about BF, do you already forget that I’m the one who reacted so you do not ” make tupi ” when DingG was lecturing on the proper behavior ( this concept of “..sabbatical leave” from FilVoices) when it comes to endorsements for 2010-Malacanang wannabe’s?
By all means, feel the push. Go write!!! The more facts (or opinions aka half-facts) you write about Bayani Fernando, the more that ManuelB, the Equlizer, neser or JoeAmerica can understand BF’s charisma, if he has a chance for 2010-Malacanang and who his business- and military-backers are.
Hyden,
Believe what you believe in.
In the end, things will come out as they should. And it would be well-advised not to throw loosely examined ‘unkind allegations’ as you just might end up violating what you preach.
If you go for Noli, just say so and convince your intelligent readers.
Hello po. I’m neser 19 years old nag-aaral po sa UP ng agham pampulitika. Nabasa ko po ang article niyo Mr. Pagunuran. I’m now writing a paper about Gov. Eddie Panlilio. This is a requirement for our course, Political Science 190. We are tasked to choose any political actor in the Philippines that we like and we have to determine ways on how they exercise influence in the political arena.Napili ko si Among Eddie since that I’m really interested on his case given that he is the first Filipino priest turned politician and even more controversial right now because of his plan to contend for the presidency.
Regarding my paper po I’m planning to conduct a comparative study on the political performance of traditional politicians having Ka Eddie as one instance vs other politicians. I want to examine their different brands of leadership and on how they could initiate significant improvements or changes on the people and society’s end. Ito po yung balak kong pagtuunan pansin sa paper ko. Gusto ko po sana marinig ang comment niyo regarding this. I would consider it a great help if you could give me suggestions or just anything that could at least make things clearer for me as to what I should discuss in my paper. Salamat po and God Bless
neser: this piece by ML.Quezon III, you may want to read.

[Primer has been besmirching Gov Panlilio for a number of days now. Primer writes positive things about Bayani Fernando.]
Neser,
Hi. I had an earlier blog here, “Will Fr. Panlilio be president?” which you may have to read and check whether you can do some work in ‘reconstruction’.
You see – am not for Fr. Panlilio but he must make good specimen when compared with like species (the traditional politicians) to the point that later on, upon closer examination, you will find out that in fact, he is a ‘tradpol’, meaning, not really the crusader that he projects himself to be. Historically, that Cross is iconic and we don’t really live in a “City of God” as espoused by St. Augustine.
I would think that in terms of brand of leadership, his is still mainstream – he says this thing on one turn and says something else on the next. In other words, he can sow the seed of his own destruction and his governorship is 4 sides equal to that view.
In fact, when he floated the idea of running for president, the whole social behaviorist configuration may have been quickly altered – him being then a priest to being a politician now. The Cross or the Church is not known to change the moral landscape in governance and therefore, it is of no moment if Fr. Panlilio is a priest or something else.
Because of some interest generated by this expressed intention, I do know that there are available online literature focused on Fr. Panlilio. And my particular focus, is one too unpatronizing, if that can be of any help to you.
If there be some quantitative gauge that compare his ‘level of influence’ over a certain territory and population when he was yet a priest and when he was elected as governor, then try to explore this area. Maybe, try to know whether, there are more people who now agree with his ‘local politics’ or the number has in fact dwindled in a fatal plunge.
I would think that he does not make for a good national leader since the presidency is the center of all ‘local governments’ and if fails to as much as weave his own piece in Pampanga, how indeed can he do more?
I can point without risk at error that this man knows how to lie and that I hate a lot.
I can point without risk at error that this man knows how to lie and that I hate a lot.
I can do the same with Erap. :)
I guess, it is interesting to make an inventory of all those reported complaints against the governor from the mayors themselves, other local officials, the constituents, and business establishments – assuming there really are.
Then perhaps sort them all out and then check whether these are all symptomatic of his poor brand of leadership by checking as well what exactly are his accomplishments throughout his watch as governor.
If corruption is his battle cry, put it to the extreme test on whether there is any single act as might constitute form of corruption in any of those transactions that he may have approved.
As signs indicate and so far as I have listened to him, it looks like Fr. Panlilio still operates in a void.
Perhaps, catch me in facebook if you wish to discuss further or email me – nielsky_2003@yahoo.com
you, sir, are an idiot.
reason for not voting for BF – mukhang katulong
reason for not voting for Among Ed – mukhang katulong
:D
What Primer is saying is that – Among Ed heads a cabal of thieves who want Among Ed to lead the thievery. Therefore, Among Ed’s leadership is wanting by Primer’s standards. And speaking of the dude’s standards – vote Erap yeah yeah yeah
Folks,
I am not about inclined to break a well-laid and well-held ‘language protocol’ unless an arsonist plans to strike the fuse.
You see, UPn, I just know on hindsight that FV is not the place for students of UP to consult with any of the writers or bloggers they find since we share a ‘common radar screen’ where every ‘flight of idea’ is being checked.
In any event, I just tried to respond responsibly to the commenter for any theoretical framework I could give. First, I didn’t take him hostage, so why shoot me?
And even butterflies like bose, in his maiden flight, are idiotically caught in this unforgiving radar screen and burns like a moth.
Anyway, here comes bong trying to give a perfectly ambiguous interpretation of a statement I have said even making it appear that I voted for Erap and therefore subscribes to the lowest standard of a presidency.
It is most unkind if not totally oblique to have to say BF looks like a “houseboy”. In any event, “servant leadership” that revolves around humility is the best kind of leadership. And BF
Men, konsensya mo lang ang katapat mo, magpakatotoo ka. :)
Cory looks like a housewife, FVR looks like a tobacco chomping general, Erap looks like a thug, GMA looks like a midget, BF looks like a houseboy fitting for a “nation of servants” – that’s evolution.. :)
if I mad add, is one such servant leader who does not even socialize, not given to talking but more on the doing thing.
But before you invite the bees, bong, please give me an appreciation of cocoy’s own blog. Then, accept my thanks.
Primer:
The “bees” have already made the conclusion – there is a reason why the word “dense” is in the dictionary.
kuya bong ok lang naman si BF eh
marami na syang nacontribute sa Marikina and sa Metro Manila.
pero sa looks agree ako sau, pero performance wise he can lead a country for good.
