Look for rat droppings near your food supplies. A variety of sizes may indicate an established colony with both older and younger animals.—Rat Infestations-How to Tell if You Have a Rat Problem
‘The Arroyo administration spruced up the Arlegui Mansion just in case the incoming legitimately elected president decides to use it as his official residence,” my son informed me.
“What a nice gesture,” I commented.
“Gloria Arroyo paid for the renovation out of her official budget,” he added.
“Wow, that’s even more admirable. But why are you smiling?” I asked.
“Because she appointed the mansion with furniture from the Marcos era.”
“You see malice in everything Gloria does,” I told him.
“That would be true if furniture was the only questionable appointment she made,” he replied.
“Are you referring to those midnight appointments?”
“I prefer to call them rat droppings, those little mementos that a rat leaves behind after she goes through your pantry,” he replied.
I had to admit that “rat droppings” is a better term to describe what the press euphemistically calls “midnight appointments.”
“Well, Noynoy Aquino can hose them away after he is sworn into office,” I said.
“Wrong, pops,” he said. “Those rat droppings won’t wash away that easily. They have a protective cover called Supreme Court.”
“The Court will see through those appointments and rule accordingly,” I argued.
“Just like the way it ruled on the appointment of Chief Justice?” he replied.
“Touché, but Noynoy can still appeal to her appointees’ sense of delicadeza.”
“Are you kidding?”
“Why not?” I replied. “Her manicurist declined an appointment to the housing fund.”
“She’s different. She took care of Gloria’s nails, the other appointees tended another part of Gloria’s anatomy,” he said. “Look at the color of their noses,” he added.
“You don’t have to be so graphic,” I said. “Anyway, her spokesman, Gary Olivar, said that some of those appointments were made to provide continuity, that there was no irregularity involved, and that they were made in good form.”
“Olivar said ‘good form’? He should think twice before using ‘good form’ to describe things Gloria has done. Olivar’s appointment was not exactly in good form; as a matter of fact, it’s criminal!”
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Dual citizens are barred from holding elective or appointive positions. It’s against the dual-citizenship law,” he explained.
“Well, he also said some of the appointments were made to provide continuity.”
“Continuity? President Aquino’s election was a wholesale rejection of the Arroyo regime! What continuity are you talking about?”
“So you want all those midnight appointees to resign at the end of the month?”
“Yes.”
“But some of them might be qualified for their position.”
“Then there’s a chance President Aquino might reappoint them,” he replied.
“Why do you keep calling Senator Aquino president? He does not become president until the end of the month,” I said.
“I know but I’ve been waiting all of nine years for the chance to use ‘President’ again. Forgive me for the premature ejaculation.”
“At any rate,” I said, “Noynoy should be more reconciliatory. The least he can do is express appreciation for the sprucing up of Arlegui Mansion.”
“Yes, I agree he should reciprocate with his own gesture of goodwill. I think his first official act should be to order the sprucing up of the Women’s Correctional for its incoming resident.”

“We will put our own people”, Hilary Clinton commented, when her husband Bill Clinton was elected in office. This comment drew the rage from the American Media and public. Some of those Noynoy Aquino people and apologists, may be interested in some of the positions. This is the reason, they are shouting on top of their lungs about the appointments.
I, myself, believe in the professionalism of the public service. Let those who really have the skills, integrity and managerial expertise serve. Not because, you labored till your sweat dripped into your tongue to make Noynoy Aquino win. That you need a payback of a position in his government. Now, it’s the positions that are the point of contentions. It is an idiotic issue. Why not become an OFW… You will earn more. Not the tsimoys or tsimays types!
Yep.
I guess, unlike her manicurist, Gloria didn’t get enough toilet training from the illustrious Cong Dadong (who of course gave us Aytona v. Castillo).
Noynoy should open a HIS and HERS Correctional in Lubao as token of appreciation to the outgoing squatter of Malacanang.
buencam,
another very, very nice article! I really enjoy reading your take on things. I just hope that Benigno is here, again writing. Boring na kasi. Wala nang anti-Pinoy dito.:-)
I second the motion.

I complained a few months ago about how the discussion here degenerates into name calling and insults, and how some people — lalo na ang mga balat-sibuyas at mainitin ang ulo — still pass it around as democratic and intelligent discourse. Finally, this issue has come to the fore.
Time to grow up, children.

Noynoy won; Gordon lost, so LilaShahani should be more motivated than benign0 or bongV to post comments into FilipinoVoices.
Prudence and that atheist should be more likely than bongV to post back into Filipinovoices. Others who are desaperecidos — jcc and UPn grad. Marocharim. the Ca t. Karl Garcia. ChinoF and Primer Pagunuran. Miriam, ilda and leytenian and that guy who soon after his blogpost about bungee jumping from some tower in Shanghai said FilipinoVoices.
Way I figure it, you don’t abandon ship, you keep paddling ’til the sucker sinks . . . or gets to shore . . .
The idea of FV is right, if the execution is rather a bit sucko . . .
Manong MB,
Per the count of some, the total presidential appointments numbers 5,000 positions scattered throughout the bureaucracy, both in GOCCs and mainstream government agencies. This includes the 330 or so appointed in one “midnight” recently. Another count says 4,000. Arroyo’s people claim that it’s only 1,000 in an attempt to insulate 4,000 from a prospective purge.
5,000 is a whole lot of rat droppings that needs cleaning up, one by one, as these will have to be sought out before they can be cleaned out.
And then, there’s the matter of replacing these.
MB, my friend, GMA did not leave rat droppings. She left a mountain of shit.
She must have a very large anus.
Good Hunting.

I’ll play. I’m back from some travel and ready to be ridiculed again.
Probably for saying the truth…..
But I’m not anti-Pinoy; I’m pro-Pinoy. I have bet my time, my money, my future and my family’s future on the near and long term success of this largely under-appreciated country.
Which is why I’m happy. I’m glad all the BS about automation is over. The doubters have been made to look pretty foolish by now. A peaceful, legitimate transfer of power is a beautiful thing and it will boost our country’s attractiveness as an investment destination.
Meanwhile, it will be hard for politics to derail the key economic inputs/outputs…especially if the government concentrates on a systematic reduction of government corruption (and not on politically-inspired dead-end wild goose chases).
Hopefully the screechers of the last 5 years have been proven wrong enough times to shut up. Perhaps we can all deal with hard facts and realistic solutions instead of all the self-destructive emotional outbursts that did so much damage for absolutely no gain.
The above comments, of course, are aimed at several bloggers here…even though they are mostly blind followers of screechers rather than screechers themselves.
Ok…shoot.
Never forget, Reality Check, that two of the most prominent of the ‘screechers’ are now president and vice-president of our beloved Republic.
The Filipino people have rewarded them for their unrelenting ‘screeching’ against the agents of impunity that shackled the nation for so long.
Hopefully the anti-screechers of the last so many years, having been made pretty foolish by now, should consider, not to shut up for that would be undemocratic, but just to mellow down and join in the celebration for a very peaceful transition that would not have happened if the the ‘screechers’ and their tenacious and alert followers did not persevere in their noble quest.
I fully agree that we should all join together and make this a better place.
Where have you been for the last 5 years???
You pretty well know where I was, Reality Check, and what I’d been doing all those years, one of which was ‘screeching’. How about you? Would you have expected me to join you in your anti-screeching crusades, singing hosannas to and selectively applauding petty accomplishment and false self-serving claims by a government hated by your fellow citizens for its abuses and acts of impunity? Would have it made the Philippines a better place condoning government abuses?
Reality Check,
One must understand that we, Anti-Pinoy are not here to rage wars. But to open up minds of the individual for them to comprehend each value of life. To understand what they are surrounded by. Legalisms and bad governance. To understand their own individual choice as a Filipino Citizen, not by over-run by illigitimate government. Blogger and pundits alike here on FV are pretty well educated and has the abilities and the will to carry their own decision making on every day lives.
But for the un-educated and the less fortunate, are the one being taking advantages of. These are the individual that needs our constant attention, to give information(s) about our bad governance. We can attack each others here on FV, but our cynicism can carry on for dear life if we dont work together, to educate, and those that needs help the most.
Or, how can we Anti-Pinoy stablish a relationship from FV pundits, if we are not constantly being attack…[...]
how about anti-P.Noy?
Maybe, just maybe, his not that supportive of:
“mirror from a Twitter venue, @maimislang”
RC,
“(and not on politically-inspired dead-end wild goose chases).”
What are you referring to?
Gee, MB, I don’t know. Got any guesses?
“Hard proof in big amounts” or “shut up” should be the baseline.
There is still way too much work to do then to spit in each other’s faces……
Don’t try to be cute, RC. What politically-inspired dead-end wild goose chases are you referring to?
MB,
The giant capybara still at it again, and wants the rat turds to be left in the cabinet.”

“When is she going to quit“
On July 2, Noynoy issues an executive order revoking the appointments OF all those who are still LOYAL to GMA. That should be quick solution to the midnight appointment problem.
[Of course, the problem is solved only if Noynoy knows who of the midnight appointees are loyal to GMA.]
————-
Another swift resolution : to revoke quickly by mid-July the GMA appointments to the top 25 most important positions; then revoke 50 more the week later. Again, this needs homework where Noynoy knows what are the top 25 most important positions.
————-
If not that, then FIRE THE WHOLE GROUP!!!!
To GMA… “I accuse!”
To GMA appointments… “I revoke!”
“[Of course, the problem is solved only if Noynoy knows who of the midnight appointees are loyal to GMA.]“-Mike H
Of course Noynoy knows, don’t you know, mike h? I will tell you. All of them are loyal to PGMA. How could you expect PGMA to appoint anyone not loyal to her, as if you don’t know your president, hehehe.
Someone has suggested that Noynoy should leave the midnight appointees in place. They will be good as scapegoats.
That makes sense. Since there will be occasions that Noynoy won’t be able to deliver — things go wrong, that’s Pilipinas!!! — then these midnighters become his scapegoats, them plus GMA and BongBong.
Obstructionism!!! You heard the word first — obstructionism — on FilipinoVoices.
Gloria is not just obstructionist, she is a mutated cancerous cell eating away the flesh of Pinoy body politic. She is now poised to spread/metastasize in Bastusan Hills.
If the country is to survive this disease, the body’s defense mechanism should quarantine this carcinogenic rat in Mandaluyong Correctional.
With Noynoy as new president, then it is only a matter of months — court-case against garcification. And Noynoy should also deliver (hopefully this year) on another promise — court-case against GMA–NTN/broadband and other corruption cases.
The faster GMA gets jailed, there will be less excuse for Noynoy administration to delay progress on mundane things like rice self-sufficiency and jobs-jobs-jobs for Pinoys in Pinas.
Be careful with what you wished for that would surely make you cry, mike h, heheh.
