Is this a retreat, closure or a rethinking of tactic? Has the so-called HPoS simply been told to go back shuffling legal folders and rethink his “personal” illusions? Remember Mao: “One step backward, two steps forward.”
While the issue was sidetracked momentarily when HPoS drew fire to himself, THE CORE ISSUE as Rom so bitingly essays at SmokeTalk is whether Filipinos will and should brook a term extension for the current sitting chief executive and consign themselve to being “led to be fleeced.”
Let us remind ourselves of the other asserttions made by HPoS that next month the chacha train will unstoppably railroad term extension.
With the Php 1.4-T budget for 2009 having passed the House of Representatives, the mouth-watering, pork-laden kitty is already the focus of many a lawmaker aware thatb their obeisance is expected when the chacha train rolls by or to be more exact, rolls over, their feigned commitment to democracy and the will of the sovereign.
We must remind ourselves likewise that the terms of many congressmen and quuite several senators of the realm will also lapse in 2010.
There is also a crucial and contentious corollary issue: when the proposed charter changes are voted upon will the two chambers, the Senate and the House vote separately or as one?
Administration lawmakers assert they should vote as one, citing deliberations in the 1986 ConCom.
If they push the envelope, the matter is expected to reach the Supreme Court for where the justices’ loyalty to the appointing power or the law’s majesty will again be tested.
In the ultimate, if the cha-cha machination is averted by massive public opposition as it was during the time of Fidel Valdez Ramos, could the trump card of emergency rule be dealt because of some event like a widening of the Mindanao conflict to include urban areas?

i think it can happen.
One way to keep watchdogs’ tails always up for vigilance is to agitate them with their dreaded enemy.
Secondhand smoke is always more effective to cause irritation to the people around a smoker than simply offering them a pack of cigarettes.
Jester, TWC,
Over at FV, this HPoS is now more carefully ‘nuancing’ his assertions and goes on record even that emergency rule is not in the equation. He and his group, as this post notes, have beaten a tactical retreat for now. This is not over yet.
The watchdogs are most of the people at FV and their patronizers. The agitator is HPoS. The dreaded enemy is GMA’s presidency.
Have you people at FV any clue that probably HPoS is just keeping all your tails up on guard by the “secondhand smokes” he/she cleverly irritated you with?
Most people in the blogoshpere are always prone to such weakness.
HPoS on the other hand had succumbed to the blogger’s common weakness — and we all know what it is because up to now we all persist on blogging.
TWC,
Yes we know what that entity hiding in the dark while bragging about his supposed credentials and his cabal are up to. You may note that elsewhere here at FV they let loose a presidential staff officer whose ‘specialization’ is writing official correspondence. If you visited Jesters last night the attack dogs where sent but where outclassed by a 23-year-old Marocharim. Yes the intimidation, obfuscation and lapdog pronouncements on how it is such a “big sacrifice” it is to work at OP are in evidence but do you really feel as a Filipino such Marcosian tactics are effective? Lumang pelikula na. Gasgas at brittle na ang celluloid.
