The feuding Pangandamans and Dela Pazes are still on Page One.
The accused father and son golfing buddies were on nationwide radio and TV today to profess their innocence and claiming self defense with the ‘honorable’ 27-year-old mayor of a little known town in Lanao accusing a junior golfer 13 years his junior of having wielded an angry fist first as the young man’s 56-year-ild father peppered him with invectives and the man’s daughter poking him with an umbrella.
Not content, one of the Dela Pazes also allegedly whipped Nasser Pangandaman Jr with steel golf club that fractured his left hand’s little finger.
Well ahead of the Pangandamans’ belated ‘story of grief’ the Dela Pazes had come out with their version of how Mr. Delfin Dela Paz and his son were mauled last Friday in Antipolo’s Valley Golf and Country Club.
So in a society where hunger is deepening and corruption is in the upper reaches of government we are now treated to a show of the comportment of those of power and pelf when quarreling over golf etiquette.
The courts will eventually decide who’s telling the truth in this damnable Yuletide episode.
How about the rest of society which has been needlessly scandalized?
What of the sitting president and how a member of her official family has managed to further erode whatever is left of presumed public esteem of her administration?

I’m a Filipino working in Taiwan, after reading the mews about a government official mauled a 14 year old boy and the word “hindi mo ba ako kilala”, I can’t start to work. I feel anger and I want to have guns and kill the family of that government official.
Sorry, but I just want to let my anger voice out.
After the Dela Pazes had aired out in news blitzkrieg their side of the story, the Pangandamans have come out with a knee-jerk rejoinder on the issue — claiming it was the senior Dela Paz or the daughter who started the melee by hitting one of the Pangandamans with a golf umbrella… Anyone with a common sense wouldn’t dare do such provocation against a person, much less a group of male (factors), surrounded by an omnipresent, intimidating cordon of pea-sized-brain and fully-armed bodyguards — whose purpose is to rabidly, blindly serve their handlers who feed them, and to do so regardless of consequences and at all costs since they anyway shall be covered with the extended mantle of impunity. That’s how it operates here in this Banana Republic. The people involved in the fracas are neither idiots nor weaklings, regardless of how they overnight image themselves as the victims. Stop playing possum, all of you – media practitioners and bloggers included. They are no strangers to pelf, power and influence either not to immediately distinguish their own kind. The filthy rich jealously, immediately dislike in their conceited viewpoint of exclusive, monopolized self-importance their own kind. Self-love breeds contempt against all others. I also have second thoughts entertaining the side-track comments of the Pangandamans that the Dela Pazes “acted as though they owned the territory (Valley Golf).” The bone of contention was but a “few minutes of ownership” of “privilege playing rights” of Hole Number Three at the time of the dispute — where the Dela Pazes contend that it was theirs in physical possession of at the time; while the Pangandamans insisted it was theirs in the first place as they were merely lagging behind a group that was already playing holes far in advance. Both parties argued for preference and priority — with or without advertence to Golf Manual 101. That was the deal breaker that broke the spirit of the Holidays. “Love of self, amor propio, ako muna bago kayo.” Can’t and don’t blame anyone — people who do so get crucified for doing right. Flashbacks of the Rolito Go parking slot shooting and that of the similar Loyola Cemetery parking fight episode. What I am certain of is that somebody burst a short fuse, and one act of intemperance and inconsideration paved the way for more violence and arrogance. The circus is now in town. The parties involved were supposed to play the gentleman’s game of golf — but, like overgrown brats as they all are really, did some other silly, childish thing that has found them now in the limelight of exchanging brickbats in full view of the nation. Regardless against the backdrop of what is supposed to be the Happy Holidays. I leave you to elevate your love of self in full view of the amused public. We can use some pointers for life. Be that as it may, lessons shall be learned the hard and painful way for all parties concerned. Good luck on this episode where only the devil gets to win! – JVC
Jonathan,
Re your “The circus is now in town.”
It never left. The program numbers are just getting more horrendous. :)
Please do not demonize the Pangandamans.
Please look at the big picture on both sides.
I’m pretty sure that the deLa PaZ started the fight. They are rich, with typical Manila attitude that looks down on people coming from the provinces, lalo na kung muslim ka or bisaya.
Baka naman pinag murahan ng mga delapaz ang mga Pangandaman, thus they deserve the beating.
John,
Your expressed sense of fairness is laudable. Note in this particular post my point is how society itself is the victim in the same that it has become the ‘breeding ground’ for the social ethno-cultural, and economic imbalances and prejudices.
I am very frustrated over Philstar’s censorship of my post regarding the arrogance of power of these so called public servants. These muslim government officials just reflect the corruption of their leader and act like pigs out of their sty. Just like pigs they ought to be slaughtered.
I hope people stop using the word muslim. Do people refer to GMA as the Kapampangan or “Christian” squatter? Leavev their faith alone and focus on the act as a government official
I’m sure that the involved parties will come up with their own version of the incident in the coming days. But whatever reason the mayor may have, there is simply no justifiable cause for the excessive assault they used against the father and son.
The hairs on my back and on my arms just stood up after reading this news. Kinilabutan ako, not only because of the vicious manner that this power-tripping Mayor and his companions did to the father and son, but especially when reading that the FATHER of this Mayor and a high-ranking government official DID NOT DO ANYTHING to stop the violence happening in front of his eyes.
Gerry,
You have my sympathies. Why don’t you contribute your censored post to FV? Just vet any expletives if there are any. :)
i hate to hear that word “hindi mo ba ako kilala”. only to types of people use that phrase, the abusive rich, and the corrupt politician. this is not the first incident where politician or rich family beat ordinary citizens. you will not see nor hear them til they finish fabricating their lies to justify their actions and make them look the aggrevated party. i hope some group will step up and prosecute these abusive people by law or by arms. these politicians are shameless! it is the people who are paying them their salaries aside from the money they kickback from office. and yet, they are still able to do that to a pilipino citizen.
i really wish some group will step up and start giving justice to the ordinary citizen by law or by arms.
i’m sure this case will go down the drain with pay off and kumpare system of justice.
Gerry, assholery knows no religion. I understand why Philstar censored your comment. Your comment might be allowed in this forum, but dont for one minute think that just because Nick allows commenters a free hand, we tolerate that kind of talk in our civil society. Youre free to say whatever you want of course. I trust men of goodwill who frequent FV will expose comments such as yours for what it is.
john,
ur ryt about ur observation about the delapaz-pangandaman feud.it just so happened dat the dela paz were the first ones to speak publicly about it.personally, the pangandamans in lanao belong to the simple yet rich prominent clan here.i have’nt heard any black propaganda about them dats y im quite surprised about this allegations on them..anyway,they were provoked by this arrogant attitude of ds dela paz group..imagine being hit by an umbrella.its not an excuse dat ur a 56 year-old man or a 14 year-old boy, where d hell are ur manners..and im disgusted about the phrase from ms.bambee’s statement.”rot in hell”..your the ones hu shud rot in hell..you think dat ur a manileno and blah2x u can put down people from the province, well u have found ur match.it just so happend dat u hav encountered the wrong people.dey own most of the lands here in lanao so back-off..y dont u wait for the decision of the court rather than acting lyk ur an imbecile and seeking attention to the public..f wer to ask, they deserve those beating…luk hus mayabang>
I pity the people in his town.
Just like a person who can’t handle his drink…naka-amoy palang nang tansan ng beer eh lasing na lasing na, nag-wawala na!
Cabinet member ka pa naman tapos the irony of it all, appointed PEACE NEGOTIATOR ka pa. Hay naku INUTIL…like father, like son.
In my opinion, the DAR secretary given his position should have intervened and pacified everybody. He had the power to do it.
Naka-kainis talaga having these kind of people in government. Idiots on the loose.
But don’t despair Bambee, in the end, justice will prevail. If not from our courts, public opinion will do it. Decent people are all behind you. And there is such a thing as KARMA.
am from the province, i don’t feel insecure with manila folks. this is not the issue. the issue is excessive beating including the 14 year old. the sr Dar secretary did not even try to stop the violence.
if the provinces are insecure, blame that feeling to the carabao:)
Same old politics, same old story, we still vote for them anyway….
Well, what else to expect living in one of the most corrupt nation in the world with all the arrogant “public servant” we have?
I detest in the strongest word possible these overkill. I’m sure this so-called Mayor Nasser Pangandaman Jr. doesn’t have the guts to square off with even the 14-year old Bino dela Paz. How COWARDLY this mayor hiding behind his phalanx of security guards. I’d say he better wear a skirt if he can’t show to us that he’s man enough to stand on his ground. I spit on you!!!
JVC,
love your comment:
“Good luck on this episode where only the devil gets to win!”
Again, the only clear wrong i can see worth our advocacy is the use of bodyguards by public officials. The code of conduct for pols isn’t enough. Need a specific law against the use of goons.
Let our friends and people in the world know that management of “Valley Golf and Country Club” will not help them when trouble happened on their property.
If this is true, and if he still has some decency, which I seriously doubt, Pangandaman should resign as Cabinet Secretary. This just goes to show the type of people that Gloria Arroyo appoints. Arrogant and abusive, corrupt and evil. Like appointer like appointee.
john and shine wong,
I bet you’re either a politician or a policeman. Your reasoning is as scary as those Pangandamans. Irregardless of who started it, excessive force is wrong.
Hope your parents still alive to correct your mindset.
To those who are waiting for the investigation…crack your brain and you wont get anything.
US is a sue country while Philippines is a land full of investigation files…look at the Senate, Ombudsman, Congress, Supreme Court etc…all are alike. Then how much more a malacanang pup?
Paging the President of the Republic of the Philippines, we want to know when will you open your eyes and start serving your people, for God’s sake you are in the office for 8 years already, please do something good for us, at least before your term ends. In this case, even an elementary graduate will understand who’s fault it is, you still don’t know???
TO MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING:
We have been wasting a lot of digital over this quarrel between upper class people. If you would like my take, let them kill each other so the masses would have less of their predators\tormentors.
I would like to repost what I said in one item regarding this spat.
“We appear to be disturbed because upper class people quarelled over a piece of unobserved golf etiquette which resulted to alleged manhandling. We mistake the heated atmosphere in the blogsphere which is inherently elitist in make-up, as microcosm of what we call “public indignation”. Heck No!! Let these “upper class people” quarrel and even cancel each other out by dueling, so Juan de la Cruz can have a sigh of relief and one hilarious grin. :)
jcc,
would you rather discuss economics, OFW and other topics? we have covered all of them and yet the Philippines remains the same. :)
let them express with a big Bang for the new Year.
and for god sake people, this is not about muslims and people from the province. this is about Philippines with public officials who have been assuming that they are always above the Law. How long do we need to tolerate that? It’s been like that since our grandmothers and our grandfathers were born.
14 years old, an elderly and a young girl? hmmmnnn that’s not right.
The Justice system in this country does not exist and it is graded weak according to global integrity report. It is the weakest branch of our government. It cannot protect human rights of the poor or even the middle class. Some said we are wasting our time here. I will say NO, this is the beginning.
this is the type of issue that people should go and rally. :)
Happy New Year anyway…
i condemn what these demons did to dela pazes… They dont deserve to live in this world. I am very outraged by this unfortunate incident. If i were in the shoes of bino and bambee, and I would say this in tagalog… “pagsisindihan ko ng kandila si secretary Nasser at ang anak nyang Mayor”… May GOD torment their souls.
Johny Mendoza… my heart goes with you….Bow
Let the almighty give the final judgement to these crooks, they have money, they are in power but they dont have the DarkAngel on their payroll. Thats one thing am sure of. If the DarkAngel cant get rid of them at present, he will do on the after life. Long life but full of misery to our beloved friend and his gang of maulers.
At talaga namang puro sila kunsintidor.
Like such thing never happens in Luzon? Luzon and Visayas are full of political killings; only that the mainstream media don’t pick it up.
LEYTENIAN,
I agree with you that this is not about muslim faith. It is simple thuggery. but the de la pazes are no ordinary individuals. If they can go to a golf course, they can go to court, which unfortunately, is not an ideal one in our country.
I have never set foot on a golf course, so my concept of the place is where Abalos and Lozada would normally cook-up government deals. Indeed we can end up the new year with a bang. When upper class people collide, I don’t see any relevance of that squabble with the plight of ordinary Mang Juan. So leave them in their own devices, they may sue and counter sue each other or even settle their score in a duel, who cares?
This “fight” between the two families and the consequent controversy ( at least in the net and some high end coffee shops) really do not resonate with the great number of people.
The middle clals may shout till their lungs that this is abput decency, rule of law, and “golf etiquette.”
Go to Divisoria, Cubao, Caloocan…and other… people dont care.
For if the Filipino people are really that sensitive, to decency and good behaviour, (Hello Garci, ZTE-NBN, Joc-Joc etc) this regime has long been toppled. And not elected it in the first place. As with its predecessor.
The truth is we are the most insensitive people on earth.
I got wind of this news through facebook. Kudos to Bambee for spreading the word out! I admire her courage and strength. Dapat talaga ilabas ang mga ganitong balita. If these politicians can inflict pain on people with status, what more with the less fortunate? Though the less fortunate cannot relate to the literal activity in this situation, I guess all of us can relate to the evil actions generated from this event.
Naturally, anyone will! I don’t agree that we are the most insensitive people on earth, with due respect. We should not stop having our voices heard!
Should GMA be interested to know (kung sakaling hindi pa niya alam!), the reason many Filipinos leave the country is not only for financial reasons.
Without a doubt, I believe the group that belong to Pagamdaman cut ahead of the De la Paz which started the raucus. By the way, this happens a lot in the Philippines where individuals on pedestals think they can do whatever they want to include the golf course. Pero kung nasa ibang bansa sila naglalaro, eh hindi naman sila ganoon and they do observe the rules. Clearly, once again there are two sets of rules for Filipinos, one for the common folks and the other for the almighty.
Fore,
Vince
These BERDUGO NG BAYAN, Mayor and DAR Sec Pangandaman, have no place in public service.
Philippine Daily Inquirer is MINIMIZING DAMAGE for the sick-Sec by calling it a “Brawl” instead of the truthful “Maul.”
According to the article someone in Pangandaman’s group was hit with “an umbrella.” Then the sick-Sec let his goons at the businessman and his family. HOW CAN THAT BE A “BRAWL?”
PDI, PAYONG? Brawl na?
Inquirer is doing a cheap cleansing job.
SPREAD THE WORD!
Garci: Maco-compensate din po yan sa Lanao.
Gloria: So, will I still lead by One M?
I just saw on the news (but it’s probably old) that Pagdamanan, Sr. already denied the incident…in a statement given while playing golf with one of the Arroyo sons.
Which, I guess, is the proper way to deal with a mauling incident on a golf course when you’re a cabinet secretary.
Now you know how powerful Pangandaman is. An interview about the incident shows him playing in the same golf flight with Mikey Arroyo in Baguio Country Club.
Yan ang display of power!!
Photo-finish tayo OneTamad. Hehehe.
The crooks are all over the golf courses, Wack Wack, Manila Golf, Canlubang, The Country Club, Valley Golf, and Baguio Country Club.
jeg,
your so called civil society has brought these thieves and thugs to lead our country. your so called civil society brought us out of the frying pan right into the fire. it is your kind of ilk that should be expose for what it is.
FACT: The conflict in Mindanao is VERY complicated. It has been that way for decades, and has involved millions of Filipinos.
QUESTION: How the hell did this DAR Secretary Pangandaman be a representative of the GRP Panel handling the peace process with the MILF, when he does not even know how to handle peace between less than 10 people over golf, where his arrogant sons are involved? bahahahahahahaha!!!!!!
GMA SHOULD FIRE SEC. PANGANDAMAN AND DISALLOW HIM FROM ANY POSITION IN THE GOVERNMENT!
in this incident, the dela Pazes were first given attention by the media and add that to the fact the natural tendency of many filipinos (including me) to hold prejudice against moros, my first reaction is anger at the pangandaman.
and i am still angry at them up to this moment. secretary and mayor pangandaman should have known better and should have acted with prudence no matter and however they were provoked. they are no ordinary citizens but persons vested with responsibility by the people.
however, i now tend to give credence to the story of the pangandamans after my friend who happens to be a member of valley golf related his brush with the dela Pazes. and so the story goes this way:
shortly before christmas, he was practicing his putting in one of the three putting greens in vally golf. in the other putting green is bambee de la Paz also practicing putting. mind you, this family of dela pazes are terrific golf players! all of a sudden, bambee, together with her mother fanning herself like crazy, joined my friend in his putting green, stroking the house balls here and there, oblivious to the presence of my friend. golf etiquette 101: this is not beig courteous. the same issue they used against the pangandamans. fortunately my friend is no pangandaman and so the scandal happend days later and not involved my friend. after around 30 minutes of pure arrogance and “i am a champion and who are you” attitude from bambee, she and her mother left my friend in the practice green with the 12 house balls strewn all around. etiquette 101 again: this is, again, not being couteous. the ball holders clearly bore the sign “replace after use.”
after i heard this story of my friend, he and i thought, well, the arrogant dela Pazes met their match in the equally arrogant pangandamans.
now, we are angry at all of them for bringing their lies to the public and wasting our time!
In my point of view, religion or ethnic should not touch to this issue. The bottom line is the character of people to this kind of situation. No one showed their humbleness but everyone showed how arrogant they are. They are both unprofessionals but Pangandamans showed what kind of people they are coz pinatulan nila ang walang laban na De la Paz na kahit saan daanin ay talagang talo. With that kind of behaviour and character, talagang walan mangyayari sa bayang Pilipinas.
I guess the dela pazes meet their match.
@Lurker_lang
always there will be bigger and smaller people than you. ika-nga ‘darwinian’ theory on survival of the fittest and ‘class struggle’. it’s a vicious cycle and it reduces us all to the level of animals. though, it doesn’t have to be that way.
the issues involved are violence (sana ma-gulpi ka rin para magising ka) and ‘abuse by government officials’ towards defenseless citizens.
we also need to feel for others if mankind has to take a step forward and progress to a better future for ‘the good of all’.
raj,
I understand the issue involved. That is why I said let them fight it out in the court of law and let the law decide who’s right and wrong. Pero ano ginagawa nang dela paz? Nagngangawa na agad to get a judgement in the eyes of public opinion. At bakit? because they do not believed in the justice system! The system that the likes of them have succesfully ignored in the past dahil hindi sila nasasagasaan. Mga middle class na walang pakialam. And now they are trying to get sympathy, eh sila nga hindi mo maasahan kapag hindi nila ka-class ang naapi. At ito namang mga ipokrito at ipokritang akala mo eh mga makatao, nakikikuyog narin without giving the other side the benefit of the doubt. Pareho pareho kayo.
let’s not get into emotions but deal with issues. unless you are ‘personally’ involved in this. no sweeping generalizations please…
the point is…it involves the family whose patriarch is a govt. official and was also appointed to represent the government in the ‘peace negotiations’ with the ‘bangsamoro’ movement.
now, the use of force is suppose to be a ‘last option’ and only when justified…
