In the past years, the Philippine Agriculture sector has been an underlying issue for The Philippine Government, Senator Loren Legarda has acknowledge this issue in her recent state as the head of The Senate’s Committee on Agriculture and Food.
She cites a recent survey by The Social Weather Station as she laments that around 20 million Filipinos suffered from hunger in the past year.
Senator Loren Legarda has continued to emphasize the development of agriculture in The Philippines as an essential focus for The Philippines. And even though the government has indeed put more focus on the agricultural sector, Senator Legarda has maintained that more must still be done.
Meanwhile, the lady Senator said that it is important for the Congressional Oversight Committee on Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization (COCAFM) to establish an efficient and timely monitoring system.
Loren said that the next administration should set a monitoring system that will be used by oversight agencies in both the executive and legislative branches of government in checking the performance of the DA and related agencies.
“I am instituting a monitoring system, with the help of my COCAFM team, to use in the evaluation of current and future agriculture and fisheries program implementation. Whoever becomes President in 2010 should make use of it to fulfill the goal of rationally allocating resources for this vital sector,” Loren said.
