The Aquino sacrifice

Kris Aquino’s latest “antics” is being used by the political enemies of her brother. One of the supporters of Gibo even said that “presidential leadership is personal” and voters must discern on the personal qualities of each candidate and from there, choose.

I agree. Morals or ethics do come into the picture, when choosing the best candidate for the Office of the President. However, let me just say that why is it that some people try very hard to ascribe Kris Aquino’s faults to her brother? If you look at this Kristeta scandal, it does not directly involve Noynoy; yet some people blame him for his sister’s actions.

If personal morals are included, then, let us just elect priests or pastors or imams as presidents and get on with our lives. If ethics are involved in our list of qualifications, then, let’s just elect Manoling Morato.

Fact is, Noynoy Aquino is now in a very solid position of strength based mainly on his family surname. The Aquino brand has an emotive attachment with ours, because of what this family has sacrificed for the sake of the many. If we see Kris right now as a dysfunctional person, blame Marcos. It was Macoy who disrupted the lives of millions, most especially the Aquinos. Was it Kris fault that she did not spend time with Ninoy? It was Macoy who incarcerated Ninoy for many years, especially during those times when Kris was just a toddler.

Many people appreciate and feel it as “utang na loob” that this family sacrificed their personal comforts just to serve our Country. And it is pretty darn evil for some people to cast aspersions against the Aquinos for the frailties of Kris.

Tell me, who among us can actually do the same thing as what the Aquinos did?

Can Villar say that he suffered during the dark days of the dictatorship? No. He was living in the comforts of his home, thanks to his many deals with the cronies of the regime. It was during Macoy’s time that Villar got hold of many properties and developed his low-cost housing schemes.

How about Gilbert Teodoro, did his family suffered under Macoy? No. Teodoro’s father worked for Macoy and his family was so close to Danding, who was one of Macoy’s cronies.

How about Dick Gordon and Joseph Estrada? Don’t forget that they served as mayors under Macoy and were in fact, the last ones to abandon their posts after EDSA Uno. Fact was, Dick even opposed the EDSA Revolution.

The reason why almost 50% of Filipinos prefer Noynoy is the fact that these people feel indebted to the family which gave the most sacrifice for Philippine democracy. I am not saying that the Aquinos are the only ones who suffered under Marcos. No. Many families even gave their sons and daughters to die as martyrs.

Again, let me dare some people—is presidential leadership, personal? Noynoy Aquino smokes, will this affect people’s perception of him as a suitable presidential candidate? Gilbert Teodoro does not know how to cook. Will this be used against him? Manny Villar loves concrete instead of trees. Will this affect his chances (of course!)? And Gordon loves Americans. Again, will this be used against them? How about Erap? Erap admits that he fathered many sons and daughters. Will we fault him for loving so many girls all at the same time (of course)?

I think, we are getting personal now in politics. Kris Aquino uses
scandals to promote her popularity. She is in show business. She needs
the attention of people. So that, they will watch her shows.

The Aquinos were just accidental heroes. The late Ninoy Aquino wanted
to become President also. So, he had to bother Marcos on every turn.
I believe Ninoy Aquino was also responsible for the cause of declaration
of Martial Law. By the MV Karagatan arms shipment incident. The NPA
aggravated the situation by the Plaza Miranda bombing. So much so, for
so called heroes. The suffering OFWs are the true heroes. Not those
    self serving politicians.

    • Hi hyden,

i don’t know what is the history book you read, but I am pretty sure it was written by someone who believes in conspiracies.

I was a witness as an individual. When this things were
happening. Newspapers, radios, TVs during that time were
not yet controlled by Martial Law. I have some good sources
in the military. And authentic sources in the other side, like
the NPA. I dont read any history book regarding these matters. History was unfolding infront of my eyes as I lived thru these events.

  2. UP n grad says:

Good questions, and my answers are — YES, YES, NO, Maybe, YES, YES, maybe, maybe, maybe, NO, yes, no, no.

Now, here is one that should strike your fancy. My answer is always no, no, no, think deeper spend more time but NO — when nephew or cousin or niece asks if they should vote for NoyNoy because of Ninoy.

    • Hyden Toro says:

Whoever can solve our problems. The one who have the best
solutions deserve to be elected. Not just because you have a good name. Or belong to such famous parents.

  3. One who judges politics, must indulge, and submit themselves into the realm of bureaucratic. What’s in it for you[me]? Rhetorically, a profound question.

Personal quality, I do digress. Admistration quality, is what I am after!

And who are we, to intrude into their personal behavior(s). Don’t we have a personal lives of our own? What we need to understand, and to be concern about are, RED TAPE and PROLIFERATION. So, who committed these unrightous acts against us? Must be, one of these Macoy’s chronies. Vote for them, and you’ll get the same HELL, as with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

“One more thing. As for Erap. Yes, he is a dancing fool. You wanna dance with him?”

    Food for Thoughts:
    • The Importancy, is what matters
    • Some of these Pinoy-in-Pinas are so damn, GULLIBLE

  4. Ooops!
“Personal quality, I do digress. Admistration quality, is what I am after!”
    Correction: “Administrational Quality”

  5. Joe America says:

I dunno, what are the personal qualities of reason and decisiveness? The ability to grasp the complexities of a major investment and decide right? Being Ninoy’s son hardly sheds any light on real capability. When the primary reason for selecting someone for a job is “who you know”, then you don’t really care how well the job is done. I’d like to know, can Noynoy think for himself? Can he take reasoned risks? Can he make mistakes without blaming others?

    Joe

    • yeah, probably joe,

i can say that to other presidentiables, like Teodoro, Erap, Gordon and Manny Villar. as for committing mistakes without blaming others, that remains to be seen.

now, we must await the time when the formal campaigning starts. that will surely determine what kind of candidates they are. for example, if just one candidate again resort to mud-slinging tactics, then, what can I say except that these people do not really make any sense at all.

    • Manuel Buencamino manuelbuencamino says:

      Joe,

Yes is the answer to your questions

      • manuelbuencamino,

Let’s not jump the gun, as of yet! These “Trapo’s” have not COLLABORATED with each others. I mean “NEGOTIATED“, not that either. I mean, that they have not yet, set a “MEETING” with their fellow Trapo’s, behind close doors. As to, “PLUNDER” our Filipino Society again. Is what I meant…!

        Food for Thoughts:
        • Are we getting close to Haiti’s cultural landscape?
        • We are in the same bracket for wage scale though, so that’s not too bad (no sarcasm here)
        • One more PGMA alike. We will surpass Haiti, and all other Asia Pacific

    • moneyv says:

“Can he make mistakes without blaming others?”

We already know that Gibo couldn’t do that. He blames his abject failure in Ondoy on everything from a lack of budget to a lack of rubber boats. He’s never once sucked it up and said, “OK, I screwed up, I should have been prepared.”

  6. Jose says:

The common argument is that if Noynoy wins, Kris will run Malacanang.

Logical or not, what can Noynoy do to shut these people up?

  7. joma says:

    Patricio Mangubat,

You are a first class idiot.

If Noynoy wins, Kris can/may become First Lady, and can you imagine that? Of course, you cant.

On the other hand, dont you realised its election time? If you are a candidate, you must throw all the garbage you can.

    Sure a top-class idiot….

This piece should have been called “The Aquino Myth”. And BTW, Gibo is a good cook. He’s the better half when it comes to cooking. (Read it somewhere…

Hhhmmm …an article meant for Tempo which found its way at FV. Priceless.

  11. ricelander says:

Of course, one should not cast Kris’ faults to Noynoy. It is unfair. But that’s how it will go if you build up yourself on the basis of your family’s merits– your mother’s ‘sainthood’, your father’s ‘martyrdom’ etc.. You do that and all the sins and faults of the entire brood will come visiting you too sooner or later– from a nephew’s defect, to an ancestor who ran away with the revolutionary fund to the outrageous origins of Hacienda Luisita and so on. You can’t claim the merits and cast away the minuses; that’s not how it work, baby. It’s a package deal. Backfire it will in due time. In fact it is not losing you should fear but winning. What will a bungling presidency do to the much revered Aquino legacy franchise?

The Aquino sacrifice? All the records pertaining to Ninoy and his trial and imprisonment should now be declassified and released to the public. For example, what was Ninoy’s business with Joma Sison, the founder of the Communist Party of the Philippines. Recently, Joma himself related how he was a frequent visitor of the Aquino family and how he and Ninoy worked together against Marcos. And other things. A fraternity brother putting his own brod in prison for no reason other than he is a pest do not make sense to me, at least as far as I understand the culture of fraternities.

    • tranquil says:

What is your problem with Ninoy talking to Joma during the dark days of Marcos dictatorship?

      • ricelander says:

Well, I don’t know. It is sure harder to imagine ‘dark days of Communism’ because it never happened.

      • tranquil says:

You are imagining a bogeyman. Truth is, if Marcos wasn’t such an egomaniacal bastard and had given Ninoy Aquino a fair playing field in an election (meaning clean), Ninoy would have been a great president this country never had.

      • moneyv says:

Surely the same problems with Villar bringing Satur and Liza on board, LOL.

    • Manuel Buencamino manuelbuencamino says:

      ricelander,

you want the records of the kangaroo court released?

      • florantedemarco@ymail.com says:

Who was responsible for the arms shipment of MV Karagatan?
Where was Ninoy Aquino when his partymates were bombed in
Plaza Miranda? Why was he wearing a bullet proof vest and
toting an Israeli UZI Machine pistol, a day after the bombing?
Who was responsible for the arms shipment of MV Karagatan in
Palanan, Isabela? A guy named Sagrado tipped the authorities
regarding the arms shipment to the NorthEast Command in Echague, Isabela. Sagrado pilots transport planes from Cauayan, Isabela to Palanan, Isabela. That is how that arms shipment was discovered.

Twist the arms of ENRILE. Put on a third degree torture on
Fidel Ramos to answer these questions. They are still there
        kicking and are alive.

Unless these questions are answered. The heroism and sacrifice
        are just Myths.

      • ricelander says:

By all means, MB. Let us see who’s the kangaroo.

  12. jcc says:

    Pat,

You sound like a Noynoy campaigner. But it is a nice post!

  13. punona says:

The post of the President is a destiny.
If it is Noynoy’s or Gibo’s Or Villar’s destiny to become president, you people cannot do anything about it.
Same with the popularity of Noynoy, he is really popular so can anyone stop his destiny? Everybody is casting doubt on his personality and the “hero persona” of his parents but the effort is seem to be ineffective.
So let us raise to higher level the debate on his (Noynoy) quality as a leader.
Not those cheapshots which only endear him more to the “Aquinistas.”

    • miguel molina says:

If you would consider Noynoy or Gibo or Villar or Jamby’s winning as a matter of destiny, why should people debate about it?? You can’t pleased everyone, anyway. There’s always something about anything because nothing is perfect. Election is all about winning or losing, the answer to all questions depend on the day after everyone casted their votes. You can vote whoever you wanted to vote because it’s a protected rights of every individual. But no matter who comes up a winner in the presidential race, all should remember that the power vested upon that person is closer to being absolute. Check and balance should be on the top of peoples’ mind when they vote for the congressional and senatorial level. Don’t go straight voting, there should always be an opposing party, to check and to balance the President’s performance. In the senate we should choose a person like Lito Osmena. Superb track records with an independent mind in performing his vision. You can’t go wrong with a person like Lito Osmenia.

  14. rego says:

Kris is actually one of the reason why I will not votes for Noynoy. On the other hand some people are voting for Nonoy becuase of kris. So like it or not Kris is very much a part of the this election.

  15. inodoro ni emilie says:

kris’ antic is a non-issue for krissake!

  16. UP n grad says:

Others say Ninoy spirit and leadership (passed onto his children Kris, Ballsy and NoyNoy) is an issue. rego agrees but then say NO to NoyNoy. Inodoro agrees and says YES to NoyNoy.

Some people say that the Cory Aquino spirit and leadership (passed onto her children NoyNoy, Kris and Ballsy) is an issue for this election. rego says NO to NoyNoy. Inodoro says YES to NoyNoy.

Some people say to discount NiNoy and Cory and voters should evaluate candidates’ history of accomplishments, other people say voters should evaluate candidates’ platforms, other say look to their kamag-anaks and backers, and others will rely on their parish priest or their pastor to tell them what to do.

Different folks, different strokes. Kaya nga may eleksiyon, eh.

    • tranquil says:

Don’t blame the folks for being enamored with Noynoy the honest and the honorable with noble parentage to boot. Blame the unmitigated kabastusan and kababuyan of your patron saint La Gloria Punyeta for bastardizing our democratic institutions and amassing huge fortunes from corruption.

Over anything else, this country is afflicted with a crisis of morality. Depressing economic indicators and numbers are mere derivatives of this moral morass.

      • rego says:

well if you want this election to be a all about gloria rather than you and your childrens future, thats alright. we respect your choice. Sabi ni Upn, thats the reason why we have eleksyon.

      • tranquil says:

Are you saying there is a disconnect between Gloria’s kabastusan and your children’s future?

      • tranquil says:

You think hungry children unable to finish grade school or those whose parents are forced to work as domestics abroad is totally outside the consequential realm of Gloria’s world?

You think the orphaned children of the Ampatuan massacre has to now be grateful instead that Arroyo is giving in to the mounting pressure to prosecute those that murdered their parents?

  17. rego says:

im saying there is a disconnect between your choice and your childrens future….

    • tranquil says:

How arrogant and presumptous of you to make a bold claim like that. We are all making a gamble here and your choice is as good as everyone else.

  18. rego says:

tranquil, do you think there will be no more hungry children, OFW parents , ampatuans etc etc…. ? will watch out!

    • tranquil says:

An honorable president would readily accept responsibility for failure of his/her mandate instead of pulling numbers in thin air and spinning a rosy picture of the economy. I am happy that just in case Noynoy fuck up on his job, Mar Roxas is more than a competent and equally honorable reserve.

Yet again, you are asking too much considering the severity of institutional damage perpetrated by Arroyo. Noynoy’s father cringed at the thought of being in charge and undo the damage of Marcosian despotic bargain.

And many are saying Arroyo is worst than Marcos.

  19. rego says:

    after Gloria is gone.

  20. rego says:

I just believe tranquil this election is not about Gloria as what Gloria haters are trying to sell. Its all about you and your children future. So vote wisely!

    • tranquil says:

You are entitled to your belief. But so are the 40% plus of the electorate who will vote for Noynoy because Arroyo messed up big time.

      • rego says:

No prob. tranquil. Whoever your choice is just as good a s mine, for as long as we both believe that we voted wisely and in accordance to to our conviction. There is realy need to convince anyone about our choice

This early I congratulate for Noynoy win. But I will still vote for Gibo even if the surveys are showing he is losing. The reaosn is simple. That is my conviction!

The Santayana quote goes something like this :

And in the dystopian world of Orwell :

“Who Controls The Past Controls The Future. Who Controls The Present Controls The Past.”

  22. Juan de La Cruz says:

What baffles me is that people keep accusing Noynoy of personality politics. But consider this:

    1. Who keeps bringing up that Kris is “horrible” (I don’t, I admire her for her strength and candor)? His detractors.

    2. Other candidates say “Galing at Talino” or “Sipag at Tiyaga.” Isn’t that personality? Now consider Noynoy and Mar’s: “Tanggalin ang Tiwali, itama ang mali” or “Laban na tapat laban ng lahat.” Hardly personality.

    3. In debates, Noynoy attends for the issues. But when he’s there, his opponents are quick to attack HIM. Debates are about issues: healthcare, education, environment, employment, poverty, development, foreign policy. It’s unfair to people that other candidates turn issues-fora into an attack stage.

  23. Uncle Sam says:

    My question is…

If Noynoy is not the son of Ninoy and Cory Aquino, what are his qualifications? What makes him deserving of the presidency?

  24. Uncle Sam says:

“Fact is, Noynoy Aquino is now in a very solid position of strength based mainly on his family surname. The Aquino brand has an emotive attachment with ours, because of what this family has sacrificed for the sake of the many.”

True, but if this is the only basis that Aquino should be considered a good candidate, this country is in trouble. We should vote for Aquino because of the “Aquino brand”??? Does the office of the presidency come with a brand name now? We should vote for him because of what the family has done? We should vote for him on the basis of the accomplishments of his father and mother?!?

    Then there’s the second part:
“If we see Kris right now as a dysfunctional person, blame Marcos.”

    ???

The sentence says it all about itself.

  25. tamtam says:

“Noynoy Aquino is now in a very solid position of strength based mainly on his family surname”

what da?!?! Maybe we should ask Andres Bonifacio’s or maybe Jose Rizal’s heirs to run for elections. Just because we werent there when they fought for our freedom doesnt mean that they didnt. THE AQUINOS ARE OVERRATED. If I was Ninoy Aquino’s wife, heck I could’ve been the one to replace Macoy.

  26. Lucrecia says:

[quote]How about Gilbert Teodoro, did his family suffered under Macoy? No. Teodoro’s father worked for Macoy and his family was so close to Danding, who was one of Macoy’s cronies.[/unquote]

That’s nice. But Danding is evil, and not because he was one of Marcos’ cronies, but because he just is. Balimbing ang mokong na yun, so don’t keep dragging Marcos’ name into the mud just because he has already passed away.

And what has the Cojuangco/Aquino family exactly done for the Philippines? Suck the blood and sweat of farmers like leeches and live like Marie Antoinette? Die at the Manila International Airport? Imprison many, many people who were never actually convicted of assassinating Aquino? Spill the plan to reclaim Sabah for the good of the Philippines to Malaysia? Take the funds entrusted to him for the farmers to make himself richer? Release those who have been imprisoned for actually disturbing the peace in the society and threatening the protection of civilians? Failing to live up to the real meaning of democracy and just charm the Filipinos with fabulous yet impractical and useless speeches? Wreck a family by being such a whore and complain on National TV for getting STD because of her actions? File nine bills and pass none and yet claim salary paid by the taxes of the Filipino people?

Wow. What a brilliant family. I would so love them to rule my beloved nation.
