The Denouncing Of All Who Do Not Tow The Line

filipinovoices

It’s FV’s anniversary today, and no joke, we launched on this day last year which is indeed an odd day to launch anything. I have much thoughts on our collaboration, but before anything else much thanks has to be made to our readers, writers, and contributors.

It is the most of lively discussions and debates that I look forward to any time I open up filipinovoices.com. I relish the thought that on any given day, we can have such heated debates, because indeed, we have become something that has become the opposite of a groupthink that has indeed become the hallmark of many other political blogs.

The reason that groupthink is such an enemy of critical thought is that it shies away from conflict, it shies away from intense debate and challenge to thinking. And when we are abound by a multitudes of problems, we need solutions that can sometimes be out of the box, we need solutions that are not arrived at through yes-men but through a rigorous process of debate and discussion.

I shall expand on this later on this week, but today, I wanted to make a brief announcement…

We shall denounce one writer, Arbet Bernardo, one of the founding bloggers of FilipinoVoices.com. He has officially left blogging, and left FV altogether. We found out, not through personal correspondence, but through his blog post. What a shame, thus this denouncement, I believe, is necessary.

Thank you.

Update: April 2nd, 245am – April Fools! The Denouncement of Arbet Bernardo was nothing more than our lame attempt at an April Fools joke. Of course we would never denounce anyone for not “towing the line”, that is the irony of it all, it is the exact opposite that we most respect and deem healthy as to avoid groupthink. In any case, we thank everyone for the warm wishes, the commenters for all they contribute. Here’s a toast to another year, looking forward to yet another April Fools and our 2nd year anniversary!

Congrats Nick and to all the FV writers and readers for its success. More power to FV!

  5. Nick,

It was in early June 2008 when I emailed you with an offer to become a regular contributor and you so graciously welcomed me.

Days aafter, Ces Drilon was snatched by the Abu Sayyaf and we had the honor of breaking the story here at FV.

Today we are faced with yet another abduction in Sulu — those of Anreas Notter, Eugenio Vagni.

We pray that in Ces’ case, thsat their ordeal finds a peaceful and bloodless resolution, despite the dreadful odds.

We have since been engaged in other ‘battles, most notably the denunciation of the MoA-AD as a ploy to dismember the Republic.

The discussions became so heated on that and other issues against the government of the day that at one time FV bloggers were even tagged as destabilizers.

And we are, individually and collectively still at it: comforting the afflicted, and afflicting the callously and arrogantly comfortable.

This is a tribute to YOUR vision, our beloved ENC.

    Mabuhay ka, mabuhay ang FV!!!

Salamat ding lubos sa lahat ng ating mambabasa.

    • Tasio says:

Al Queda foreign operatives have been helping the Abu Sayyaf
and the MILF. Our government are totally ignorant of the
      strategies of this Terrorist Group.

I dont know how incompetent these people in our Inteligence
Agencies are. This is now the results.

  6. Non-Malignant says:

    Happy anniversary to Filipino Voices.

We didn’t quite noticed it, but FV is a year old now. Congratulations to all of us who participated in the exchange of ideas that impacted many of FV’s readers and perhaps somehow helped influenced the minds of our leaders in their decision-making process.

I was impressed with the rate FV is growing. Many politically oriented community blogs don’t even reach their first anniversary. One top reason is the inadequacy of the participants to handle heated debates. In open forums where everything is almost fair game, behaviors such as show of arrogance, insults, criticisms, and sarcasms are unavoidable. If the most of the participants are onion-skinned, then it won’t be long before the forum will turn into an very noisy chatroom of hollow intellectual arrogance before it will disintegrate into cyberspace oblivion. At FV, I think the participants have passed the critical first year test.

I am hoping for FV a more engaging and fruitful years ahead. May all participants be continuously blessed with a little spare time to spend blogging at FV, and many sound ideas to share with the entire Filipino community worldwide.

  7. On behalf of everyone at the Office of the President tasked with managing Bloggers and Mass Media, let me extend the most gracious Congratulations to your blog collective, Filipino Voices Dot Com. All posts and comments at this URL are daily recorded in real time by the Intelligence Services of the AFP, Camp Crame, and are available to the Secretary of Justice and the Solicitor General for tests of compliance with criminal libel laws, defamation and other applicable statutes.

    • BrianB says:

If you’re not really Ms Fajardo, you’re stealing someone’s true identity. They can put you in jail.

    • jcc says:

      Hi,

      Lorelie,

Nice to have you around. But the the “monitoring” for compliance to libel laws, etc., is a big joke. I myself had been subjected to vicious libel in this blog site and I have never noticed you calling the attention of the blogger about it.

      Nice Try. :)

    • Madonna says:

Oh my gas. Hehe. Happy Lorelei-ing Ms. Fajardo. And not only April Fool’s Day.

    • leytenian says:

Public officials have a strict duty to act for the benefit of the citizens of this country. don’t see any defenses by them for defamation and libel. Public officials are subjected to scrutinies and all kinds of negative feedback when people becomes REASONABLY UNHAPPY. It is however not REASONABLE for any public official to threaten the public with defamation and libel. The RULE of law may exist but the application of such law is absent in reality. The powerful will always win.

happy anniversary FV. Maayong adlaw Nick… Good job.

    • Tasio says:

Hey, Miss Fajardo. Why not gather intelligence on Terrorists.
We the Bloggers Terrorize only incompetent leaders, hypocrite
politicians, evil scheming leaders, asungots in the administration, etc…We dont pose risks to the nation.

  8. BrianB says:

Hey, this April Fool’s has gone too far. It’s illegal to personify someone even online.

    • You must mean it’s illegal to impersonate someone online?

      • grad -- the Pope says:

Amazingly, no Filipino blogger — scaredy cats they are — one has yet to impersonate Pope Gregory.

So let it be said : when a marriage has floundered badly, then the state has to step aside and let the marriage be dissolved.

And what those folks said that I said in Africa is wrong — safe sex and condoms have a role to play in the health issues of this world.

    • BrianB says:

IMPERSONATE, sorry not personify. Got carried away with the whole SATIRE issue.

  9. Jeg says:

H.A., F.V.. The precocious little toddler you spawned is off and running, Nick. Congratch.

  10. Bert says:

    HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, filipinovoices.com!

  11. Yeah right!

    Welcome to the Club!

I have also joined Gloria Pidal’s Cabinet as Secretary for Fairness,Accuracy and Truth (FAT).

    Nice try Arbet!

    Happy April Fools’Day!

    The Secretary for FAT
    The UnEqualizer

  12. Non-Malignant says:

    Hmmm… a Lorelie Fajardo?

On second thought, doesn’t talk like LF, and the I.P. address trace back reveals a non-government address…

Well, let us see how “she” reacts with the real issues as she engages the people at FV. If “she” will bark like dog, then maybe she is not the real duck of Malacañang.

Welcome Madam LF, and enjoy your participation at FV.

  13. Tasio says:

We dont always see eye to eye with all people. We respect divergent
views. Differences of opinions, perspectives and beliefs must not
    affect us emotionally, including friendships.

  14. Renato Pacifico says:

Lorelie Fajardo was ripped apart, denounced as not intelligent for her job according to Pekeng-Peryodiko, Inquirer’s editorial.

Wasn’t Inquirer involved in the Ces Drilon kidnapping news blackout? They invent the news blackout so as not to anger Abu Sayuf? Is the Inquirer ignorantly, stupid for not understanding that Abu Sayuf wanted publicity? How dumb stupid Inquirer for no critical thinking! SO ARE THE REST OF THE MEDIA PRACTITIONERS especially NPC for approving the News Blackout.

Now that we have REd Cross kidnapping THERE’S NO NEWS BLACKOUT!!! I told you many many many times guys, there’s news for the media practitioners and there’s news for the poor people like us.

IF YOU ARE REALLY LORELIE FAJARDO, WELCOME!

I don’t know Arbet Bernado, I’ll look up this dude.

    HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO FV!!!!

Lorelie, I’m not a great fan of GMA because my opinion of her is formed by Pekeng-peryodistas but I believe GMA should go thru the process of rule-of-law.

    • Am really glad the people here are not alarmed by my visit. I’m new to this blogging business, though I am not computer illiterate. I just want to get a taste of what it’s all about and I was told the President even reads a few blogs, including this one. Not to drop names but I know HER well.

      • Phil Manila says:

        Ms. Lorelei,

You have your work cut out for you here at Filipino Voices. Mr. Tsao is a rarity to bash the Philippines calling it a ‘nation of servants,’ knowing his small island is supported by 130,000 Filipina maids. What gall?

Anyway, Mr. Tsao apologized early enough.

But one regular here, benign0, is a consistent, unabashed Philippine basher. You better be prepared when he wakes up from Down Under as I’m pretty sure he will another classic up his sleeve, rationalizing Mr. Chip’ cheap shot.

BTW, what happened to you, DJB? Always want to give the benefit of the doubt, read between the satirical lines, take the side of the underdog, etc., are you?

Was that a devil’s advocate position, or what? :)

      • DJB says:

        Phil Manila,
I’ve posted on Chip Tsao. He’s a good writer, whether you agree with him or not. Who of our columnists have that kind of reach now, eh?

  15. Renato Pacifico says:

So who is not intelligent? The Inquier Editorial or Lorelie Fajardo?

    • Senor Pacifico,
I am happy to be a lightning rod. and we have the Inquirer in Our Pocket na. Such a splendid little Global Economic Crisis we are having!

      • Renato Pacifico says:

Aw, c’mon Lorelie. Inquirer denegrate you as a parrot, unintelligent, clueless and oblivious. You mean to say your boss, GMA, told Inquirer to bash you in public?

You better start back stabbing GMA while she’s away in London to fix the Global economic crisis :)

      • DJB says:

That comes with the job. Everyone plays a role. But why attack the parrot (me)? Obviously to spare the Boss. It was a nice editorial. (No! I didn’t write it…not really.)

  16. DJB says:

Okay, who let the dogs in??
    Ow! Ow Ow!

    • Renato Pacifico says:

DJB, I love this dawg, Lorelie.

It’s true that administration and PMAyers and bureacrats and elected officials trolls for ideas from us. THAT’S THE BLOGGINGHEADS!!!!

    • Me too, Sir. Love your smile….

      • DJB says:

Ah the Lady Lorelie! I’m sure I didn’t mean you with the canine remark earlier…Someone said you would be dropping by tonight…slumming around the blogosphere with no fear of exposure, whatsoever?

  17. Renato Pacifico says:

Hey, DJB! I LOVE YOUR SMILE!!!!

  18. Just the smile, sir, just the smile! (It can be wiped off your face, you know!)

  19. UP n grad says:

    Tow the line…. to where?

Mag cha-cha toe-to-toe, mas mabuti. :razz”

  21. jcc says:

    Nick,

Truth is an elusive commodity. No one has a monopoly of it. Abert Bernardo should be commended rather than be condemned for his candidness.

Whenever we try to digest one’s point of view we try to associate it with his bias. Now we can read Abert with the purity of a water with a contaminant that came with his view. We are forewarned.

Unlike others who try to peddle their bias as unsullen truth, Albert would be dishing out the “truth” varnished by whatever his employer’s conceptualization of what is the truth. It is how we process this “truth” that matters.

Abert, you have my respect and not my contempt.

    • Renato Pacifico says:

I agree, JCC. Abert will be measured by what he says and what he parrots from the administration. I hope he’ll come to realization like Bush spokesman, Fitzgerald.

It’s OK, there in America. But here, in the Philippines, if you do a Fitzgerald make sure he kisses his wife and children like it is his last.

Regardless, I still like it here in the Philippines. My forex keeps me above anyone else. A flash of greenbacks gets me a good decent karaoke girl.

My American passport makes me untouchable. One swoop of my AMerican government’s F16, lolohod ang mga tala-tala.

REmember Marcos? One swoop of F16 he surrendered? Not only he surrendered all Philippine military surrendered to one F16

Pagkatapos inggit pa tayo ni Tsing Tsao over Spratley and denegration of our katulongs? Hmppppf!!!!

  22. Renato Pacifico says:

Right on, Brownshama! DJB’s smile is more like “BAHALA KAYO, D’YAN”. A Mona Lisa smile :)

  23. Such a splendid little Global Economic Crisis we are having! LF

Won’t being dismissive of a potential economic tidal wave by alluding to the “splendid little war” (the Spanish -American War) be a bit puerile, if not blithe ignorance, considering that Obama himself thinks the Iraq war seems the easy problem compared to the threat of global economic crisis?

  24. – Lorelie Fajardo

Wow, I didn’t see that right away . . . nor the brown shirt behind the picture frame.

    • Renato Pacifico says:

Abe, you mean I’m marked by the FBI-Academy-Trained-PMAyer Superentindents? And the dumb “intelligence Services”?

Do you really think they can touch me? I have a blue eagle passport issued by the US Governemnt with biometric datas.

I’d better report to my CIA station master in Manila that whatever happen to me, send in their troops!

And please, do not negotiate with the Philippine government nor send in their SWAT Team.

    • Renato Pacifico says:

Abe, you are right there. Since government cannot regulate and censor blogosphere like they censure the idiot pekeng-peryodistas who overblow their “the pen is mightier than the sword” yet cower before GMA … HA!HA!HA!HA!

So they are monitoring the blogosphere …. Thank you, Satan now we are in the limelight of the dungeon of covert repression

    • BongV Bong V. says:

Dang, the government can’t even manage its own affairs, and now it has to poke its inept incompetent hands into the blogosphere?

Intelligence as applied to the ISAFP is an oxymoron.

Camp Crame – the Philippine Guantanamo – oopsie.. all PI jails are worse than Gitmo or Abu Ghraib!!! :D

The Secretary of Justice who purveys all the injustice of a squatter regime.

And a Solicitor General who goes around soliciting from the general public.

Hay buhay… ang kagunggongan ng bayan ko.

  25. Sir Abe,

I think you’d agree that such crass and overblown assertions, true or not, only serve to expose the outgoing regime to either ridicule or validation of fascist inclinations while claiming moral ascendancy.

    • Bencard says:

lighten up, ding. just what you are waiting for, huh? even a mocking “crass and overblown assertions” can set you off drooling in rage. try making a scarecrow of the person you hate most and pepper him/her with invectives that will soothe your psyche.

  26. Ding,

It is desperation for the Arroyo government to threaten bloggers with SLAPP (short for “strategic lawsuits against public participation”) suits to silence criticism.

SLAPP tactics are undemocratic and are in the nature of political vendetta versus the people’s fundamental right to hold their leaders accountable.

  27. DJB says:

There was an Art Contest in Ancient Greece, during the Golden Age, which came down to the two greatest painters of all time, showing off their masterpieces in a final showdown.

The first painter stepped up to the stage and unveiled a still life painting of sumptuous fruit, which lo and behold was immediately set upon by a passing flock of birds fooled by the master’s art. To thunderous and wild applause of the seated Judges and Audience.

The second painter, unabashed, asked the first to unveil his own entry for the audience. With a generous flourish did the first painter TRY but FAIL to draw the painted curtains!

    Happy April Fool’s Day,
    LoreLIE FajarDOH!

  28. (It can be wiped off your face, you know!)haha

  29. Hi Atty. Ben,

    “drooling in rage”?

Where? You are getting ahead of yourself :)

    “invectives”?

    Touche’. :)

More your style and you know that.

And by the way, you did not get that this thread is celebratory?

So Happy April Fool/s Day to you, my favorite East Coasr legal eagle. :)

  30. Renato Pacifico says:

Abe, on SLAPP, is this true or just a product of your imagination? Please enlighten us some more …

Can they touch a American-British-European Citizen like me?

  31. Primer C. Pagunuran karlpopper says:

Oh, so we have a ‘guardian Angel’Lorelie coming as she does on a Fool’s Day with a ‘foolish maiden note’ in a Fools’ Paradise?

If she as much as joins the discussion, let us see how she bangles her weight around, if she can?

She better makes a lot of sense every single time she wiggles her tail around.

  32. BongV Bong V. says:

    Karl:

Invite the angel to Philippinebeat.com – the dudes are looking for a lighting rod :))

  33. Primer C. Pagunuran karlpopper says:

    Bong,
I’m not sure if you’re referring to Philippinepolitics.net?

Don’t worry, the next time the angel flies our intellectual airspace, Renato Ballistico will fire the anti-GMA missile – two at a time.

  34. Karl Garcia says:

    belated happy anniversary FV!
