The East is Pink

With apologies to the Great Helmsman,  the east of Metro Manila is indeed pink. After island hopping in the Visayas and getting stopped by a tropical depression, I learned that Bayani Fernando’s message has somehow gotten through. Thanks to disasters. Bayani is a sort of hero after Typhoon Frank. It seems that typhoons remind people of the Hero.

While the rest of western Metro Manila may pooh pooh Bayani’s chances for the throne, some people in the provinces don’t think so. I thought that  Bayani’s presidential chances were only taken seriously in civic clubs but it seems that isn’t longer the case. Since many local execs are taken to the showcase of good local governance in the East, Marikina City, many are indeed impressed. One local exec told me about the aesthetics of Marikina City Hall and the quotations that were plastered all over the place. He thought they were of great historical figures only to find out that they were from Bayani himself.

Leftist wags have told me that Bayani’s visage resembles that of Mao. True both have round faces. It isn’t very accurate to compare his with the Fuehrer. The Fuehrer has none of the cherubic face that Mao and our Hero has. This gives me chuckles imagining his Face cum permed coiffure on Tiananmen Gate.  :-)

If a Mao like face is enough to propel a man to power and lead the Great Pink Cultural Revolution, then our Hero is definitely the one to succeed our Glorious Queen in 2010. However, even the local execs say he hasn’t the machinery. But then again when Barack started out, he hadn’t the machinery either. What could propel our Hero to Olympus as it did Barack is the idea and the reality that the electorate is fed up. In America it was fed up with Bush. In the Philippines It is fed up corrupt governance.

This is sure recipe for a rise to power if he can play the game. But as of now he is strong contender for the Celebrity Duets. But I think Bayani knows that there is a growing mass of people OUTSIDE Marikina that are now getting his drift. And that is….

The Philippines is ripe for the Great Pink Cultural Revolution!

Nah, BF is too old to know the game. Besides, he blew his chance when he put up all those Tiananmenic posters of himself using MMDA funds. It has precisely the negative effect of what he intended.

  2. “Ang maliit na basura, ibulsa na lang muna.” Bayani Fernando

Ok,what did he do with Gloria???

  3. Bayani Fernando should be dared to go all the way. But he should first resign from the MMDA as a matter of delicadeza. But don’t bet on it. In this country, the words of late Sen. Avelino ring immortal: “What are we in power for?”

Likewise, the Imeldific once opined,”some are smarter than others.”

    Poor Pinoy.

that we assume that our electorate have the same discernment as Jon Limjap. :)

i will go for BF over Speaker Villar and Noli de Castro.

  5. Jon Limjap says:

    jcc,

AFAIK, he has pissed off too many of the masses of Manila for him to win Manila. Dunno how effective he will be in terms of the rural provincial vote.

  6. Bencard says:

Bayani Fernando – just what the filipinos need at this time – a true man of action, not of soaring rhetorics and plethora of empty promises that will never get fulfilled. with a constitutional 6-year term without re-election, the exercise of political will to do the right thing, no matter how unpopular, is not an impossibility. a strict, but fair, implementation of our laws regardless of who gets hurt is an ideal whose time has come.

  7. leytenian says:

“i will go for BF over Speaker Villar and Noli de Castro.”

These two are just thinkers not doers. It might be true that they both have passed laws but what’s good does it do if those laws are stucked on the tables of the executives.

A Leader will get down to business and will not hesitate to replace unproductive officials.

Bayani’s skills, educational background and personality type fits the job description of DPWH. Philippines might be too big than Bayani’s personal vision.

  8. leytenian says:

I would prefer Belmonte, the city mayor of Quezon City. He has the skills, educational background and driven by goals. He has proven himself as the best manager for local government.
“When Belmonte was first elected mayor in 2001, Quezon City was the most financially distressed local government unit in Metro Manila and perhaps, nationwide. The city had a debt of P1.25 billion to the Land Bank and payables to various contractors amounting to P1.4 billion. The general fund was overdrawn by P10 million. In just two years, he was able to turn a bankrupt city into the richest city in the country, a feat very few mayors have achieved.”
Quezon City: Best managed local government

I like his record, very positive. It fits the job description of a president I want for Philippines. Reduce IMF and World Bank debt and more budgets for welfare, healthcare and education. This is his turf. IMHO

I think we need to stay away from anyone who is already in the legislations. He knows too much on the weakness of our system and will use it as his advantage. We need someone outside of that circle.

  9. Bencard says:

leytenean, i have nothing against belmonte and i would support him if he gets elected. but your assessment of fernando’s capability is, i think, a no-brainer. what “personal vision” are you talking about? then again, hey – it’s your choice.

btw, wasn’t belmonte a legislator (congressman) for a long time before becoming q.c. mayor?

  10. leytenian says:

    bencard,

on bayani’s personal vision means , it’s not enough for me. I am hoping that all candidates will showcase their past performances with positive result , how did they implement it. Skills are transferable. I don’t him very well except he was credited with several cleanliness and beautification project and the implementation of gwapotel. I am basing my opinion from what’s available out there. He could be a good one too for some. But both Bayani and Belmonte are not too popular with SWS polls and Pulse Asia.

  13. Yes, Atty. Ben, Belmonte served 3 terms (9 years) as congressman of the 4rth district of QC and is also now EVP od Lakas Party. His family owns Philippine Star.

  14. jcc says:

So those who are rooting for our Congressman of QC, Belmonte, what has he got that others don’t have?

How about Mar Roxas? Is he better than Richard Gordon? Is he better than BF?

Pardon my pessimism, but it seems we haven’t got the best of the lot, at leat from my point of view. We don’t have the quality of our past politicians. Mr. Marcos despite his shortcomings is one brilliant politician.

Senator Aquino’s star was brigther than Mr. Marcos, and out of jealousy, he wanted Ninoy dead.
The irony is that our bright politicians either lose their way or got rubbed out.

It is a paradox that our mediocre politicians do not seem not to suffer the same fate as our bright politicians do, and they live much longer though they offer less to a country that today needs something beyond commonplace ability.

  15. leytenian says:

    i think we need a dictator :)

  16. Jon Limjap says:

    jcc,

I guess mediocrity — lying low and not standing up that is — has its own benefits.

  17. Jon Limjap says:

    leytenian,

I’ll lend you a time machine to bring you back to the Marcos era.

Besides, what “we”? You’re already in America for good. You do not get to choose.

  18. leytenian says:

i know jon and it’s sad. at least i still use “we” . pls give me credit for patriotism. :)

  19. jcc says:

    leytenian,

is double citizenship new to you? :)

yes jon, those who lie low don’t get noticed and they do not get the bruised. you know that carnival game where you have to hit the dummy with a mallet everytime its head bobs up. :)

  20. Ishmael says:

    Pink revolution?

I don’t think so, first is maraming tao sa Metro Manila ang galit sa kanya tulad ng mga sidwalk vendors, mga squatters. Dahil doon ay ang tingin sa kanya ay hindi maka-masa.

Then there is an issue about his using the MMDAs fund for his bid para maging president. Andami daming posters niya ang pakalat kalat sa metro na hindi ko naman maintindihan kung ano ‘yung silbi. Di ba dapat pag may proyektong ginawa using public money, dapat ‘yung mamamayan ‘yung makikinabang?

Lastly, si BF ay medyo inclined na maging dictator. I perceived him as not listening to the public when he is implementing his plans.

Nakakaduda rin ang mga pink fences niya, lalo na yung nakakalat sa Commonwealth Avenue. Parang nasayang lang kasi pera natin doon eh.

  21. blackshama Blackshama says:

Bayani Fernando seems to have matched “fascism” to Philippine realities much more sucessfully than Maoism ever fit the average Pinoy. Bayani’s pink fences are a sign that social engineering (a requisite of fascism) will work here and that the people will sheepishly follow.

BF could be a better “fascist” than Ferdinand Marcos, since unlike Marcos’ edifices the effects of his social engineering will persist . What Bayani needs now is an ideologue and I bet you, he will probably reinterpret Marcosism (sans Imeldific) just like Joma Sison reinterpreted Maoism. BTW you don’t need the “masa” to ascend to power as the Nazi seizure of power teaches us. You just need to exploit the weaknesses of the constitutional order. Believe me,the 1987 Constitution has more weaknesses than what Weimar Germany’s had. One you are in power, then you can have the “masa”, and the social engineering comes into full force.

Unlike Marxism, fascism has more breath of life in the 21st century. How the democratic system can put limits is the challenge.

If not we will all be singing something like

The East is Pink, the sun is rising.
Marikina has brought forth a Great Hero.
He removes garbage from the people,
Hurrah, he is the people’s great savior.
    Chairman Bayani loves the people,
    He is our guide,
    To build a new Metro,
    Hurrah, he leads us forward!
The MMDA is like the sun,
Wherever it shines, it is bright.
    Wherever there is Bayani Fernando,
Hurrah, there the sidewalks are liberated!

Again I have to make another apology to the Great Helmsman :-)

BTW I fogot Kim Jong Il and BF have also something in common. They are particular about their coiffures!

  22. Sunnyday says:

Haha, that coiffure observation is funny :-)

I’ll just dwell on that for now ’cause all this BF talk is making me feel more pessimistic by the minute! Blackshama, commercial jingle writer ka ba? ;-)

  23. blackshama Blackshama says:

  24. mlq3 says:

the palace is certainly floating their trial balloons to see if the loyalty of these fellas to the president will have fallout or not. and which one would be the most willing to grant the present president a pardon.

  25. Bayani is a failed businessman, takes a lot of shortcuts, and cheats his clients. No sooner after Hans and Henry found out he was cutting corners in SM Megamall construction, the Sys gave him the double spinning back kick fatality combo and his BF Construction was forever banned from any SM project.

  26. BF Metals likewise is banned from Meralco biddings after they discovered that lampposts and transmission tower parts which were galvanized in his Cainta Plant were covered with paint to ensure the Zinc deposit thickness requirement was complied with. Paint adds to the non-magnetic coating of zinc as indicated by measuring tools.

I can go on and mention others projects but it just goes to show Bayani is a crook. If your biggest clients can’t trust you, who would?

  27. blackshama Blackshama says:

Ha ha ha! Just like the Chinese and melamine!

  28. jcc says:

bf is getting full coverage in this blog. he should say something specially on those matters brought out by Tongue-Twisted.

tongue, there are really evidentiary matterials on these under-specs thansactions?

  29. jcc,
You don’t get kicked out in the middle of the biggest mall construction project in Asia at the time if you’re doing your job honestly. My company was in the same project and boy, I should have taped the SM VP’s regular Monday saliva shower session on BF himself and his engineers. The company that later took over his unfinished contract was also our affiliate. We in effect charged his company with all differential costs that we could find.

Good thing, the next door neighbor, ADB, was also investigating their own contractor, Hyundai Construction for cheating on materials and specs they were tearing up fully constructed walls and floors everywhere for failing the tests. Hyundai lost $40M in that deal despite hiding container loads of materials from ADB. SM picked up the idea they found BF doing the same thing and worse. Both Hyundai and BF saw their last big project in the country in that same block along EDSA. Although Hyundai did finish the ADB headquarters unlike BF, both companies only got complete payment after some years later. His suppliers went berserk.

But now that BF is well-conneted, I won’t be surprised if he was, is, or will be awarded dam-sized projects.

  30. peemayer says:
