I write this at a moment unprecedented in all of human history. We are living at the beginning of an age where each human being has been given the ability to express himself in ways no other generation has been before. This, I hope is the beginning of understanding because the truth is, our presidential candidates do not have any inkling on what to do nor do our people realize where we are and what we could achieve with this power.
This is truth. To Twitter is democracy.

Author’s Note: This post is a clearer version of what I wrote here on Filipino Voices, The Conscience of the Digital Filipino. It breaks down that post into Five Freedoms that I believe we Filipinos should have to ensure that future Filipinos enjoy the full benefits of an open Internet. I think this must be a moment in history that we must ensure those rights and we must ask our leaders for it.

Cocoy,
With the advantages are the drawbacks, big brother, for one. But, indeed, as in Iran, the new media allow the people to be a pretty powerful “little brother”.
Also, I caught a note this morning on a CNN program looking into the future that one of the things about the convenience of short messaging is that it is easy to seek and hang around with those who think the same as we do, and cut out those who disagree. Therefore, healthy dialogue gets cut off.
Joe
Joe, I think there are no easy answers. Like the question on privacy, how much should we have? where do we draw the line between our individual interest and a country’s or the world’s interest. How do we become wise enough to know when privacy should be sacrosanct and when it shouldn’t?
edit: added: i think what’s really important now is that we debate.
The Blog Site, the Twitter, the Internet and all other facilities
of Information Technology. Have made DEMOCRACY more workable. No longer
can Politicians hide on hidden agendas. They are scrutinized by Filipino Bloggers. It is an unprecendented Public Forum that made the
voice of all people be heard.
Democracy it is, indeed Coy.
We might add, too that as with other ‘gift’ of modern technology and IT in particular with its socnets, smartphones, and kindles the liberating effects can and are misused by malcontents and geeky donothings.
But hey, what doesn’t kill us can onlky make us stronger, and wiser. :)
Cheers!!!
This is something I’ve read early this evening, and hopefully the media reporter doesn’t get to carried away with his/her reporting, suddenly and unexpectedly hitting the dreadful “ENTER or “RETURN” key. That’s all it takes, and the news is plastered all over the internet.
A joke pokes fun at the Partisan Media A New Year Funny!
Two boys in Boston were playing basketball when a rabid Rottweiler attacked one of them. Thinking quickly, the other boy ripped a board off a nearby fence, wedged it into the dog’s collar and twisted it, breaking the dog’s neck.
A newspaper reporter from the Boston Herald witnessed the incident and rushed over to interview the boy.
The reporter began entering data into his laptop, beginning with the headline: “Brave Young Celtics Fan Saves Friend From
Jaws Of Vicious Animal.”
“But I’m not a Celtics fan, “the little hero interjected. “Sorry, replied the reporter. “But since we’re in Boston, Mass, I just assumed you were.”
Hitting the delete key, the reporter began “John Kerry Fan rescues Friend From Horrific Dog Attack.”
“But I’m not a Kerry fan either,” the boy responds.
The reporter says, “I assumed everybody in this state was either for the Celtics or Kerry or Kennedy.”
“What team or person do you like? ”
“I’m a Houston Rockets fan and I really like George W. Bush” the boy says.
Hitting the delete key, the reporter begins again, “Arrogant Little Conservative Brat Kills Beloved Family Pet.”
Mario,
That is highly funny.
Joe
And that John Galt,
the guy will just not shut up
on the radio
heh
joe,
I see you’ve finally made it to pages 1000 of 1168 on my “Centennial Edition” soft bound cover. Hehehehe…!
It’s not a joke. MSM in America is like that. It’s called Republican bashing. American blogs are different, they reflect a more balance views. No, Joe?
It will be a walk to the funeral come that day when the internet will be under the control of a company or corporation.
Let not that day come upon the world wide web.
