Now that you mention it, it is something to think about. I could write about this in my next article. What do you think? ;)

And I have nothing against people playing the lotto for the Hell of it. Once again, Pedro is poor, and for him, as benign0 put it, lotto is a “collective investment strategy.”

@ Bert:

Yup, I think whether you play for fun or fortune, you can’t help but hope. Like I told Christa, Heck is a good enough reason for most.

About your friend/neighbor: Good and bad things happen to good and bad people all the time — I’d like to think a god or devil has nothing to do with it.

This whole discussion of betting and god and the devil and Lotto reminds me a lot of Job. In case you’ve forgotten, he’s the guy God and Satan were betting on. This story I think proves that gambling has a biblical basis ;)

Me, I play the lotto hoping to win. What the heck if it’s for the heck of it? My best friend/neighbor winning twice if not the work of his God he was praying to could be the work of the devil. So what the heck? My friend thought it was his God. And he’s a good man.

@Ryan Tani: Very true. But material-wise, many people do only look to religion as a means of gaining something through “faith”. It is something to think about, if faith could exist beyond hoping for something material or eternal.

I do think though that there are people who would join the lottery without expectations of winning, and simply for the heck of it. Honestly, I think I’d fall into that category. :)

God is no mystery to me for the idea is an invention of Man and bears the stamp of his lowly origins at every turn. It is Man that is the real mystery and our concern. For he is clearly the subject of his own delusions. Look in the mirror. You will see “God”.
