Call this prophecy, heresy if you will.
Or goes the line from Fr. Panlilio – “After a period of discernment, I said God is calling me to run for the presidency” – but what does that whole statement really imply?
Today, Inquirer gave it the hype in bold headline – “Politics over priesthood” and some one million readers will be reading the piece in subtle free publicity. But does God really call on him to be the president? At the very least, the same could have been said of PGMA, or why not?
Let us echo other statements said. One – “When I decided to offer myself, I felt at peace. I’m doing this not for me, not for myself. I felt God wanted me to go on a higher service”. And let it not be untold that he too said in part – “… because what we are doing is for you”. All but make good copy, doesn’t it? Two – “I don’t expect the Catholic Bishops to campaign for me because they will not do that”. It remains valid to look into this paradox further.
Add few more dosages of things said by the good priest. One – “What’s important is this priesthood that I love so much. I’ m willing to give it up for a greater love – that’s love for country”. Two – “For me, the heart of priesthood is accepting the love of good, in working for other people, especially the poor”. Three – “Technically, I could get married”.
The official announcement is deemed to have been said such that it is all over the tri-media environment that Fr. Panlilio is climbing the Church wall to go to the other border. And just as quickly, he gets every kind of reaction. From his former supporter-businessman Renato Romero – “drunk with power” while from Fr. Raul delos Santos – “quixotic”.
Funny enough how he expressed this – “If they would accept me back, yes” – in case indeed he can get back to priesthood, if he loses. That said, it means, Fr. Panlilio wants to have his cake and eat it too. Archbishop Oscar Cruz has to warn him to seek dispensation so as to spare the Catholic voters and priests from getting divided.
So how do we connect the dots?
It is cheap justification for anyone to invoke God as having asked him to run for president. Under no circumstances should an intelligent mind say this by way of bait. And voters would not be that foolish to vote for Fr. Panlilio just because his statements are woven that way and that he carries the Cross right around his neck.
Good for the man if his Kilos Na Movement is already receiving pledges and campaign contributions in support of his expressed desire to be the next president. Or how indeed can he address corruption as the single most important social problem to solve?
The CBCP will later regret it if they don’t support one of their kind in the person of Fr. Panlilio in case by a miracle – the priest wins. It bears watching who will his Cabinet men be and how good he can really clean the whole bureaucracy of stinking corruption.

This is an example of an article that need not have been written to begin with.
With politicians and any form of blurb written about them there should be but ONE underlying challenge:
Platform, plez™.
Having a vision for the Philippines is the whole point of being a candidate for public office as far as an intelligent electorate is concerned.
Who gives a fnck anyway what higher power is being invoked here? Whether it be God, the “people’s will”, Destiny, or some spooky voice inside one’s pointed head, any Philippine-born a55hole can and has the right to run for office under Philippine Law. So why waste time “analysing” the whats and what-nots of deciding to file for candidacy?
Unless you are going to ask what platform or vision for your presidency is, there is no point.
In the Philippines, the only platform needed for winning an election is that you have a direct broadband connection with God! So that’s why mortal pollies like congressmen, councilors, senators want to get an iota of CBCP endorsement or the endorsement of Iglesia ni Cristo, JIL, etc. These groups claim they have a fast connection with God (although the CBCP has a porn free internet service on offer!)
Now mortals like Gloria Arroyo, Cory Aquino, FVR, the Great Apo Ferdinand, Erap needed to get some assurance that they have a second-hand connection with God. So we have seen them photographed and videographed with their tongues sticking out to receive the Catholic sacrament.
So Benigs I have provided you with your platform plez! This isn’t Australia where it is expected to be larriknous about religion!
What if God is an epiphenomenon? He/she exists if we want him/her to be? This is a more plausible explanation that the illogical Atheistic one!
Primer:
Vote Erap – platform not needed :)
hehehe! somebody votes for manong ed just because of morality. how crass and low.
that’s no different when someone votes for bayani fernando because he is a mechanical engineer.. or for gilbert teodoro because he is a lawyer
Voting for Teodoro — Harvard — cuz he understands OFW’s who have seen better management and administrative principles while living overseas.
If you believe in God. And familiar in his ways. He uses the foolish
things of this world to confuse the wise. The weak people in this
world to bring down the strong.
We dont know the calling of Fr. Ed Panlileo for his country. We just
watch and see. We will not rule him out.
King David of Israel was a Shepherd Boy. He was look down by his
brothers who were soldiers, but were afraid to fight the Giant
Goliath. David the Shepherd Boy volunteered to fight Goliath. Then,
killed him with his slingshot. And slew him with his own sword. He
then become King of Israel. Ever heard of those anointed by God?
i don’t believe in an imaginary friend called “GOD”.
i can believe that there is a candidate call Ed Panlilio.
i can believe that there are people who will vote for Ed Panlilio.
as to whether Ed can deliver the goods – I don’t know and I will make the determination after he replies to my question – Platform Plez
That is your prerogative. I use the term “If”. We who
believe can believe also.
Platform is good but the who is just as important, if not more so.
An overemphasis on platform might turn us into an Emil Jurado clone. He says- “I agree it’s insane, what’s going on. Voters are compelled to vote not on what candidates represent, much less what they stand for, nor what is their party platform, but on what kind of people they really are.”
“What kind of people they really are” counts because anybody can whip up a platform. A party of thieves can present a great platform.
So platform and men of principle plez.
men of principle ought to be a given.
the USP – unique selling proposition distinguishes plain vanilla jane from neapolitan jane – the platform.
what am i gonna do with a pious charming candidate who will lead us all the way to the jurassic ages.
Bong V.
“men of principle ought to be a given.” Ok.
In that case, we can dispose with reading the platform of any candidate or party that does not meet that requirement.
So we can eliminate the merged party of thieves from our list. We can also eliminate Villar.
The question you and Benigno might want to answer is whose platform is worthy of serious consideration?
MCB:
i speak for myself, and that’s what am saying – “who is the candidate that is a man of principle and has a platform worthy of serious consideration”
Villar has not been convicted – I will not prejudge the case – as he could be a man of principle now undergoing a political demolition job by unprincipled people most threatened by Villar
Bong V
“i speak for myself, and that’s what am saying – “who is the candidate that is a man of principle and has a platform worthy of serious consideration”
Ok. But I want to know who you think are the presidential candidates with principle and who are not so that I don’t waste time listening to scumbags.
How about adding the category to your matrix?
mcb:
there’s also a flipside to the equation – given everyone is a scumbag, figure out who is the least scumbag, and has a platform that can be given serious consideration.
as to the candidates – it is all a work in progress and premature for me to make a determination.
Manuelbuencamino,
Although I am inclined to agree with you that a member of the party of theft ought to be excluded from presidential consideration, I am rather fascinated with Teodoro. He is US educated, has been anointed by US Defense Secretary Gates as “someone we can work with”, has been declared by his wife as willing to walk away from his party if they don’t pick him as the presidential candidate, but is presumably without money without his uncle’s backing. I’d consider him if he showed spine and stood on his own two feet.
Villar would be a huge disappointment, in my outside view, painting the Philippines as ever corruptible, always bending to power and inside influence, always shirking upstanding principles. He can absolve himself of what BongV says are may be ill-motivated charges by revealing the details of any properties transactions he has undertaken in the past 10 years. Short of that, he is off my list, because smoke is oft as deadly as fire.
Joe
Joe:
With Villar out.
That leaves Gordon.
BongV,
Gordon’s out in my book, for advocating tourism as the best step forward in Sulu, and for crying one tear too many. I will listen to Teodoro carefully . . . I agree that BF does not cut it . . .
Why don’t YOU run? I’d back that . . .
Joe
Primer, here’s a recess from the roughing you’re getting from the school yard bullies (alias benign0, bongV, UP n, etc.):
I like your title adaptation (is it?) of Rudyard Kipling’s The Man Who Would Be King. It’s funny but come to think of it, two quotes from the book/movie bear on the candidacy of Ed Panlilio:
“Brother to a Prince and fellow to a beggar if he be found worthy.”
“Not gods – priests. The next best thing. (Actually “Englishmen’ in the actual text).
Now, I’m waiting for your adaptation of a John Le Carre’s work:
The Engineer Who Came In From the Cold.
Phil,
Perhaps, in another planetary blog site, not here where some viral pests with “collective IQ” would attack the messenger than the message or the “carrier” than THE ONE being ‘carried’.
ask not who the pest is – it might be you
so whose God will emerge victorious in 2010?
will it be Among Ed’s? Bro. Eddie’s? Or the God of the INC, the EL SHADDAI, the muslims?
What a supposition bong – every candidate is ‘stereotyped’ as a scumbag?
How will an objective benchmarking (properly so-called) can even proceed? This has always been my fear of this hypocritical work of yours.
Just one point, just try to be humble.
Folks,
Just for the record, I remember I have a comment on that given by benigno which must have been “censored” but I always leave it to the best judgment of the ‘moderator’, if anyone does exist.
Thank you all the same.
It’s On Line!
Check it out!

Log on and gain some brain cells!
Never mind benigno, you’re a victim of Dr. Bono’s so-called “intelligence trap”. You’re just ‘theorizing’ many times over the same worldview because precisely, you are TRAPPED.
I guess same old song – cannot add more brain cells, can it?
An intellectual anomaly is one where blogger A prohibits blogger B to endorse a presidential candidate at FV as being made a ‘carrier’ and yet here we are listening to bong v batting for a Villar and it is as if it created no ripples in the intellectual waters.
So one asks, if it’s Primer endorsing a product, no way. If us, go all the way. It’s both funny and an irony.
Let come what will.
Stop playing a victim, Primer.
Stop saying that DingG and others have told you not to write. Just write to your heart’s content, but special request — Do move this space forward by writing clearly what are among the top 5 reasons why your kabayo Fernando should be next 2010-Malacanang president.
(Unless all you want is to call attention to yourself, then…) better get working fast, Primer to put out much clearer and more convincing pro-Fernando blogpost submissions. Latest SWS-survey puts FERNANDO among the 1%-or-less group. In contrast, Legarda is at 14% (and Legarda will NOT win Malacanang-2010).
really? I’m batting for Villar?
the flaws in your thinking process are even worse than imagined :)
Benign,
Frankly, your brain cells are kaput.
Ask one decent blogger here, he knows.
Just one?
:-D
Don’t mind him benign0. You converted me from a hater to a supporter. I cancel out that “one decent blogger”.:-)
UP n,
You sure know that I stopped having to defend BF in this site however it is always rubbed in so I guess you don’t have to ask me to advance 5 reasons why BF should be the next president.
Let the voters decide who despite and in spite of the deceiving consistency of surveys that presumably run under the “fuel” of sponsorship.
We can’t always misjudge people, that you folks should remember.
omigosh! self delusional brilliant bloggers asking for platform from candidates to vote for president as if platform a part of the person, heheh. nuts.
walang plataporma plataporma… di na kailangan ang utak..
puwit ang gamitin sa pagpili ng kandidato
iboto si Erap ..
You must be right, bert.
Some folks here, not few, appear to go nuts. Delusions of grandeur, call it that.
Still others behave like educated trolls.
walang plataporma plataporma…
di na kailangan ang utak..
puwit ang gamitin sa pagpili ng kandidato
iboto si Erap ..
hahahaa… talagang nuts
benigno,
Don’t even make the mistake to find solace in 2 or more of your own kind ‘ganging’ up on just 1, not necessarily me.
It is a disservice to the readers, shameful in fact. A disincentive, no less.
We should realize that we are not the only people in the “room”. More students from across the “bubble” may just be reading us and they would know since they are “more intelligent” than us.
stay in your “room” – the room for the mentally retarded :)
it is a disservice to the readers when retards enter a class for non-retards – it dumbs down the conversation.
if the devil himself should commission an expert on writing very good platform of governance and then submit it to FV, I would suppose these brilliant guys will fall for it hook, line and sinker…then probably will vote for that hell creature, heheh.
if the devil delivers – why not.
cardinal sin would use the devil’s money to do good.
why not then use the devil’s platform to do good.
ok kung si cardinal sin – hindi kung demonyo?
ano ba namang kaipokritohan yan
BongV, you telling us we should should expect the devil to deliver us to heaven? No way!
You and benignO, go and get the devil’s very good platform and stick with the creature in his rightful place where you want to belong. And, if you really hate Erap so would prefer Gloria instead, then please take her with you and leave us decent guys live in peace in our dear Philippines.
but isn’t that what you exactly did when you voted for erap – to deliver you to heaven?
and it’s the same reason why people voted for arroyo – to deliver them to heaven?
every philippine president who sits in malacañang is someone else’s devil , correct?
Now, BongV, if you take Gloria with you, just don’t forget to leave my Manoy Bencard behind even if he would insist. We will miss him here in FV, you know.
But, you might need some lawyer to defend you against those pesky souls in that fiery labyrinth, so take Raul Gonzales instead of my Manoy Bencard, heheh.
who ever will be left will still be someone’s devil, so we keep on taking them out till no one’s left? :)
like in a thousand years?
Bong pretends to be conversant on the ascendancy of Erap to the presidency but offhand, this guy is only good in name calling, in one liners, in nasty foul language.
He conveniently thinks that since Erap was voted to the presidency, that therefore the whole Filipino electorate are like Erap – bobo.
Bong is not alone in this advocacy, more so with benigno.
Is it not paradoxical that those who advocate anti Pinoy sentiments can have the decency to offer platform matrix, kepner matrix, BB matrix. Sure you know what to assign to the two-letter word last mentioned.
This is the height of stupidity and idiocy, I would tend to believe.
Bong pretends to be conversant on the ascendancy of Erap to the presidency but offhand, this guy is only good in name calling, in one liners, in nasty foul language.
Do the math.
Act of commission – voting for Erap
Act of omission – inability to field a single candidate against Erap.
He conveniently thinks that since Erap was voted to the presidency, that therefore the whole Filipino electorate are like Erap – bobo.
And what am I supposed to say, genius?
Bong is not alone in this advocacy, more so with benigno.
And so are the rest of the 60% of the voting population who did not vote for Erap.
Is it not paradoxical that those who advocate anti Pinoy sentiments can have the decency to offer platform matrix, kepner matrix, BB matrix. Sure you know what to assign to the two-letter word last mentioned.
Presenting a systematic methodology which is a best-in-class practice by the world’s top companies presents objective realities in a glaring manner. Providing such information is not an anti-Pinoy statement – a non-sequitur, a red herring.
This is the height of stupidity and idiocy, I would tend to believe.
Absolutely, and it is all yours.
