Manny Villar is unmasked by Lito Banayo, columnist for Malaya. Banayo said Villar is Gloria’s secret candidate.READ HERE
“I thought Gibo was Gloria’s satandard bearer,” I told my Palace mole.
“Gibo is just a decoy. Gloria picked Villar long before she picked up Gibo,” he replied. “Read Banayo’s column, the secret meetings he wrote about are true.”
“Hmmm…But what about Gordon? He’s also Gloria’s boy, isn’t he?” I asked.
“Yes, that’s why he is also running.” he replied.
“But what chances does he have? He has no money, no organization, nothing!”
“Who said he was funding and organizing his own campaign?”
“You mean someone is doing it for him?”
“Aren’t you surprised that all of a sudden he has money to spend on advertising and campaign sorties?” he pressed on.
“But who would be crazy enough to finance a sure loser?” I argued.
“Who said he was running to win?” he retorted.
“Well then why is he running at all?”
“He is running as an attack dog against Aquino.”
“Attacking for whom, Gloria? Villar?”
“Is there a difference between Gloria and Villar?” he asked.
“Yes,” I replied. “Gloria has a mole on her face and Villar does not.”
“And THAT is the only thing that sets them apart!”

what is the purpose of having multiple, or even just one, secret candidates? escape from prosecution? but the president has no power on what cases to file, right?
It’s likely mitigating the threat of prosecution for crimes comitted while in office is the primary motivation for fielding a shadow candidate.
The strategy of using a designated attacker (who really had no desire to seek the office, no means to prosecute his own campaign and no realistic chances of winning) is basically to tie the opponent in knots defending himself, leaving the real candidate free to pursue his campaign unhampered. Once his job is done, he normally withdraws from the contest, leaving his client morally intact and the opponent bloodied and battle weary. Be it in school, small org, local or national politics, it is a cowardly way to run for office.
yep…noy is a threat to gma…villar is an opposite…while erap…they will use him to take noys vote…because noy and erap are known opposition and those people who will vote to them does not like gma…as in solid anti gma…eddie villanueva and others will be sharing the 3million votes…so not a threat…if gma will endorse villar openly…you know already the result…villars followers at least half will not vote for him for half of villars supporters does not like gma.
so villars supporters who does not like gma…do not vote for villar
Gabby,
Having one or more secret candidates is called hedging your bets.
Escape from prosecution is one reason of course. And the president has the power to order his justice secretary to prosecute cases. Also the president has the power to discourage the investigation and prosecution of cases, witness JocJoc Bolante and specially Nani Perez whose case was dismissed because the prosecution dilly-dallied.
There are other reasons. For example proximity to a corrupt successor offers unlimited opportunities for continued stealing.
there is something wrong here then.
the president shouldnt have this power, technically doesnt have it, and yet, is credited for doing all these bad stuff..
GabbyD,
the president has the legal power to order the Justice Department to investigate and prosecute any and all who are suspected of breaking the law.
definitely, coz the justice sec is an extension of the personality of the president, as are all cabinet members in general.
but i thought you were saying that the sitting president has wider powers/influence over the justice system in general. i guess i misunderstood.
but others can sue GMA privately right? the president cannot stop that. should the sitting president take the lead in prosecuting GMA? i dont know. something tells me that he should be doing more important things while in office.
the president shouldn’t have this power. unfortunately in the philippines, she takes what she wants and will stop at nothing.
here’s a reason to have multiple candidates: SO THAT WHOEVER WINS, YOU WIN. But then Aquino comes along and ruins everything for her.
That’s what I call a blessing.
Gabby
The sitting president does not need to spend all his time prosecuting arroyo. All he has to do is to remind the gov’t prosecutors that their job is to go after criminals and crooks and no exceptions to that will be tolerated. The prosecutorial arm of the government can take over from there.
I second.
Whatever happened to the ethics charges? The road scandal? I’ve been out chopping vines, weeding the garden of malcontent growth. Manny has been given a clean slate, I presume. Or is it that Filipinos can’t see corruption, because if they condemn it they have to condemn their own wayward ways, too? I’m lost here. Help help . . .
Joe
joe, there’s recent news that villar is gaining steam in surveys and the one most affected despite maintaining a lead is aquino.
so, what better way to diffuse villar’s supposed momentum than associating him with arroyo, right? after all, nobody seems capable of really going after villar with the corruption allegations, so this appears to be the next best thing.
the idea of gibo being a decoy is a rather costly proposition in terms of money and effort, and for what, a diversionary tactic? puh-lease. even the administration wouldn’t dare do something that would split the votes they need.
Agreed. The NoyNoy campaign still uses Evil-versus-Good Anybody-but-Gloria GMA-talsik Diyan as their campaign theme, and they have tarred-and-feathered the Villar campaign with being GMA-in-disguise.
Based on the bloggers on Filipino Voices, the tactic works. BUT based on the bloggers on EllenTordesillas’ site, the tactic may not be working.
I hope NoyNoy changes his mind and he attends the January 14 forum at AIM. His resposibility is to inform the voters about his programs.
UP n grad, the Romulo forum is only one among many. I understand there is a scheduling conflict with this one. But Noynoy was just at the La Salle Zobel forum the other day: http://www.zobel.dlsu.edu.ph/archives/00000526.asp
If you r genuinely interested in his platform, I suggest u just *read* it. It’s widely available.
Every writer has an ideological point of reference. EllenT is no different, as many r aware.
the problem is this forum is about foreign policy. no one has any idea about his foreign policy opinions. its not on his platform.
Wasn’t there a news-article early last year which mentions NoyNoy like Cory being strongly pro-USA?
It would help if u could cite the actual article.
You can never brush aside a possible Arroyo-Villar alliance. With Arroyo and Villar, everything is possible. Who would ever think she will run for congress? And Villar taking in Satur’s group speaks of his principles or lack of it.
so, what better way to diffuse villar’s supposed momentum than associating him with arroyo, right? after all, nobody seems capable of really going after villar with the corruption allegations, so this appears to be the next best thing.
No one can go after Villar because he pays the media to shut up about it, and threatens people who have lawsuits pending against him.
I know a family that fled the Philippines because of threats to their life if they tried to expose some of Villar’s dirty dealings. I’ve also heard straight from the horse’s mouth that at a certain important business/commerce board, villar DEMANDED the changes be made to his stock options before a certain deadline that would affect his businesses. He demanded this board convene outside its normal hours, and Villar himself went to the meeting to make sure every board member voted in favor of Villar’s demand.
Is that the kind of president you want in this country?
the idea of gibo being a decoy is a rather costly proposition in terms of money and effort, and for what, a diversionary tactic? puh-lease. even the administration wouldn’t dare do something that would split the votes they need.
–> They have an unlimited source of money, you forget. Admin side has taxpayer money embezzled into campaign accounts and Villar has his own money. Here’s the wisdom in splitting the votes against the “opposition” (Aquino):
He has a solid 45%. Make sure he doesn’t hit anything beyond 45% (enter Teodoro, Gordon). Make sure secret candidate wins a percentage WITHIN 20% from leading contender, 26% will do (enter Villar).
The margin of cheating in Philippine elections is 20%.
That means 20% of all votes would likely be scammed.
UP n grad:
and they have tarred-and-feathered the Villar campaign with being GMA-in-disguise.
That might be true, but at least it’s the truth. Ang mga accusations naman nina Villar at Gibo sa iba they pluck out of thin air.
PS- I love how your name is UP Grad. Is this some way of telling the people you somehow need to be listened to because you come from that prestigious school?
Parallax,
The association with Arroyo began when he deviously gaveled the impeachment complaint of Erap. Villar was deposed as Speaker soon after.
In 2001 he ran for senator on the administration ticket.
He has never attacked GMA over any of the many scandals she was involved in. He was always a reluctant member of the opposition, only making weak statements when it would help his political career.
Villar cannot attack GMA because there are too many skeletons in his closest
and he knows GMA will hit back and rattle those skeletons if he steps out of line
Villar’s shenanigans have nothing to do with Aquino’s or anyone else’s candidacy. His misdeeds are between him and the Filipino people.
He has so far been able to make himself over as a man from Tondo who made it and would like to give back. No one disputes that he came from Tondo. The question is how did he make his billions? That is a legitimate question to ask and for the Filipino people to pass judgment on. Parallax notwithstanding
That is Philippine politics. You put a guy as your CLONE. You put a
fall guy. The supposed candidate David was an example of a fall guy.
You delude people into voting this kind of guy. Then, you win. Marcos
politics is still with us.
WOW!
Ahem, quite conspiratorial. Anyone interested in ‘THE BANAYO CODES’
As in similar op-plans, plots, rumors before: “ANO NA NAMAN DAW?”
As disinformation for the gullible…PRICELESS!
Phil Manila,
Let’s see. Here’s a little quiz for you.
1.The candidate or candidates most like GMA is Aquino, Estrada, Madrigal, Villanueva, Perlas, de los Reyes, Gordon, Teodoro or Villar?
2. The candidate or candidates least likely to cut a deal with GMA is Aquino, Estrada, Madrigal, Villanueva, Perlas, de los Reyes, Gordon, Teodoro or Villar.
3. Which candidate or candidates will qualify as answers to the first two questions?
With the deceiving semblance of Villar’s winnability, it seems that indeed, chips will fall in place, wouldn’t they?
At bottom, a secret revealed in public ceases to be one. Or do we just in fact have to ready between the lines, in this case?
I recall that gesture in the movie, “School of Rock” by the rocker Jack.
This is what worries me about writers. Such fertile imagination. Last month, the story was Gloria declaring Martial Law. Now Villar is Gloria’s “secret candidate”. Is this election a movie or something? Okay, let’s assume Gloria and Villar did plan to have “a rendezvous in some warm Mediterranean coast”. How does that prove they’re planning something? Can’t they also do their planning here in Manila? About Gloria becoming Speaker of the House then Prime Minister, can someone please break this down without contradicting the other things they’ve said? First, these writers say Noynoy’s lead in the surveys is so big cheating won’t affect it. They say he’s a sure win. They say Gloria and her candidate are so unpopular they have no local support because everyone is defecting. If that’s true, how can Gloria become Prime Minister? How can she get the majority vote in Congress to change the Constitution, then get the majority vote in Congress to approve a new Constitution changing the system of government, then get the majority vote in Congress choosing her over everyone else to be Prime Minister? How? Isn’t Congress now a rubber stamp for Gloria? That hasn’t worked for Gloria to be Prime Minister right? She’s the president now and she controls Congress, but she hasn’t succeeded after how many years of trying. Can someone explain how she’ll be able to do it when she’s only a congresswoman? I’m not trying to defend Gloria and her candidate, whoever that is. I’m just saying it will do this country a lot of good if these writers focused on real election issues and got over their obsession with Gloria. The law will deal with Gloria when the time comes. What about our other problems? We’re still waiting for Noynoy to explain what his plans are to solve our real problems.
Palace mole? haha, parang showbis. Baka naman alam mo kung talagang magsyota si Gerald and Kim Chiu?
if you ask me – all the main candidate are one, they are there to screw us.
Every politician knows the wisdom of “No comment…. no mistake”, which is why it is tradition to have the president provide State of the Nation speeches and why many countries expect their candidates to provide
“If elected, these are my priorities!” speeches.
Edi wag ka nalang bumoto joma. Wala ka palang tiwala para kahit kanino, wag kanalang manggulo. One more thing: also, if you do not participate in this democratic exercise you will have no right to complain about it.
in fact if you dont have a choice, dont even bother having a voice.
Even if Villar wins, I don’t think he’ll just relinquish power to GMA on a silver plate. There maybe some sort of power sharing between the two. Villar will be spending billions for the elections, he’s a businessman and without the power of the purse he won’t be able to make more money much less recover his *investment*.
Mike,
Power sharing IS a relinquishment of power and prerogatives that belong solely to the president.
Rumor mongering disguised as confirmation of facts. Only in the pilipins. And you complained that you are in the gutter?
If Buencamino is still here after this propaganda, I would be forced to take Filipino Voices out of my sidebar. And it’s not just a rumor! ;)
Goodbye Neil.
Ahahahahahahaha . . .
I appreciate your style, MB . . .
My God, but Villar smacks of slick Willie, selling snake oil to the needy . . .
Joe
It’s not propaganda. It’s word that has been buzzed around the halls of government and other places where influential people who know what’s really going on — even BEFORE tita cory passed away. only banayo had the balls to say anything about it.
Interesting note, I think people at Pinoy Exchange are a better barometer of things. Also, I agree. Villar is the secret candidate.
Agree, 100 percent.
O yeah it’s obvious, Villar is GMAs minion.
Believe me, more and more evidence will come out soon.
I don’t even want to waste bandwidth to reason with Villar apologists here disguising as curious or dumb.
Deviously simple: DIVIDE AND CONQUER.
@Parallax
Banayo’s column was published before SWS results came out, right?
Also, wasn’t that SWS poll commissioned BY the Villar camp? And didn’t it coincide with their barrage of campaign ads? (goodness knows how much they spent, where the money came from and how he will recover those expenses)
I dont think so…eventhough Villar is a bet of Gloria..Nothing will change…He’s still a good man and a good future leader as what we have seen in his works…
I DON’T believe that! Why else would Trillianes let Villar come to his prison cell and talk to him and ask for his endorsement – which has been mentioned recently in the papers like the PDI? Trillianes would have to know because even though he’s in jail, I’m sure he still has friends who are his eyes and ears in the gov’t and military and IF these rumors were true, Trillianes (being VEHEMENTLY anti-GMA hence the two aborted rebellion/coups against her) would NOT touch Villar with a ten foot pole or snub him totally!
this is classic canard – conjuring up a wild fantasy and then believing in it. just one of pinoy bad habits.
