Who cares what the Filipino people “think” much less “want”?

I’m just regarding all these shawarma topics from a bemused helicopter view. And I must say, only one really simple concept springs to mind:

We merely reap what we sow.

I think we are forgetting that The Filipino People in all our usual form of adolescent jubiliation summarily took credit for Arroyo’s ascent to power back in Jan 2001 — glossing over the fact that Erap was a duly-elected President then and that the swearing in of Arroyo was clearly extra-legal, kung baga…

We had [...] removed a president in a blatant disregard of constitutionally-prescribed procedure and installed a new president who then proceeded to govern by virtue of the very same Constitution that her ascent to power had trampled upon!

…not to mention that other little fact that what was advertised at the time as the moronic tagline “the people have spoken” was really more like “the people of Metro Manila have spoken.

So let me get this straight:

We took credit for installing Arroyo as President back in 2001 in a moronic fit of Fiesta Revolution but seem to find no need to hold ourselves accountable for our role in this now laughably-overlooked piece of classic extralegality.

Which brings me to mull over these headscratchers:

:D If Arroyo never was the legal president of our excellent republic; then,

:D Doesn’t that little snippet of a factoid make this ha-ha/ho-hum impeachment proceeding an exercise being applied to what is essentially a non-existent administration?

Sure, let’s hold Arroyo responsible for her alleged deeds since 2001. But then:

So, we are in a quandry, the obviousness of the whole affair, this affair that we call The Arroyo Administration, as to how to hold her responsible.

Sure. But I’d rather see it this way:

Maybe if we get over our collective psychological hump of first holding ourselves responsible for creating people like Arroyo, Bolante, and other bozos like Erap and Trillianes — characters that merely reflect the character of our society — only then will we have a more real understanding of Nick’s latter phrase: how to hold her responsible. If we ourselves don’t understand our own responsibility, how do we expect to apply such a concept on the strawmen we hollow-headedly blame our troubles on ad inifinitum?

We already have a track record of allowing convicted criminals to party on in Philippine high society (add to that Erap’s recent pardon). What makes us think that this is gonna be any different?

So if you ask me, let’s be careful about speaking for the Average Pinoy Schmoe in saying that there is a collective will to end the Arroyo Administration before 2010. Because quite frankly, I don’t really give a rat’s arse about what the Filipino people “think” much less what some windbags presume to say on their behalf. After taking stock of what this so-called “thinking” has produced over the last couple of decades, I think coming to this conclusion was quite an easy call.
