Will The Panlilio-Padaca Ticket Fly?

panlilio-padaca-2010-montage

Eduardo Panlilio and Grace Padaca are embarking on the biggest battle of their lives.Their vehicle: the Panlilio-Padaca para sa Pagbabago Movement (PPP Movement) which they say offers Filipinos a genuine alternative presidential and vice presidential tandem for the May 10, 2010 elections.

http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/nation/03/22/09/group-supporting-panlilio-padaca-tandem-2010-launched

One could very well call the Panlilio-Padaca ticket quixotic but in a wat Among Ed and Ate Grace have been tilting at windmills all their lives. Panlilio temporarily shed his priestly habit three years ago to battle Pampanga’s illegal gambling lords and win a tightly contested gubernatorial race.  Padaca quit her job as a government auditor in 2001 to run for Congress against Isabela’s most powerful political clan, eventually losing by just 59 votes.

Panlilio suffers from the rare disorder leukoderma which causes the skin to lose pigmentation while Padaca walks with crutches because of childhood polio. When Padaca did win the Isabela guberbatorial race in 2004 she ended the three-decade reign of the Dy family while Panlilio’s 2007 electoral victory made him only the second priest to be elected to public office in the Philippines (the first being Fr. Margarito Gonzaga, who was elected mayor of Alburquerque, Bohol in 1971.

Panlilio’s and Padaca’s supporters reckon they can be giant killers again, battling the moneyed wannabees of Malacanang and the main-line political opposition perceived to be led by traditional politicians. So ‘Among Ed’ and ‘ Ate Grace’ will be jousting against tickets with  very deep pockets and well-attuned to the old Filipino electoral formulation of employing the 3 G’s (guns, goons, and gold).

One thing sure Filipinos are hungry for positive change powered by new strategies for good governance anchored on the elimination of corruption.

Will the Piso-Piso-Para-Sa-Pagbabago fund-raising tack of the Panlilio-Padaca tandem power them to victory 13 months from now?

  1. UP n grad says:

Among Ed is just like any other Filipino politician. He stands for sacrifice for the sake of the motherland — that other candidates should sacrifice their political aspirations for Among Ed, ‘cuz he, like Muhammad Ali, is the greatest and he “…stings like a bee”.

Among Ed does not know that a politician grins because he/Ed is one more distraction so that people do not think of Bubby Dacer.

  2. Would you care to elaborate?

  3. leytenian says:

Will the Piso-Piso-Para-Sa-Pagbabago fund-raising tack of the Panlilio-Padaca tandem power them to victory 13 months from now?

i actually like the strategy. It’s the opposite of what the people of this country are accustomed to. This may encourage the people to participate during election by donating instead of receiving. This is a direct fundraising attracting majority. The awareness itself regardless if people will donate or not will have a direct effect on the others candidates number of voters. Let’s assume that there are 60 million votes and only 20% can donate or have been made aware of this campaign? what do you think will happen?
I will donate more than 1 peso. It’s the right thing to do. :) at last

  4. You may not be alone in this thought, leytenian.

One of my favorite MSM pundits has this view:

    http://opinion.inquirer.net/inquireropinion/columns/view/20090323-195799/Panlilio-for-president

  5. leytenian says:

    ding,
is he the first candidate to ask for donation thru fundraising? it may work because almost everyone has a peso. It’s a concept of the modern world to attract volumes. The target market is the majority poor for a peso – to participate and donate money to support their leader.

  6. Yes, ma’am.

My concern is now that he has declared, the black prop ops of the jueteng lords will now shift into overdrive.

  7. Primer C. Pagunuran karlpopper says:

The ticket is a pair of inexperienced individuals who just might need more advisers than they themselves can govern.

I doubt if they can raise the level of discourse in policies, laws, and developments if they will only mouth moralities reinforced from their own faith and advocacy.

  8. leytenian says:

ding, sorry. what do you mean by black prop of the jueteng lord will go overdrive? that thing is illegal anyway.. isn’t it? we need to replace it with Philippine lottery- like a power or mega ball that every district or province can choose their lottery name under the Republic, like a branch. It should be a non profit or publicly own ( government)

but i am really interested on his concept.
Asking help from the people is a management style. One cannot manage without the support of his people. Donating is a direct indication of support. This might be the end of vote buying if he will win?

  9. kp,

“inexperience” is not synonymous to naivete, right?

While like your, prerhaps, I am not about to rush at endorsing the Panlilio-Padaca ticket.

But we do need to find a viable alternative . the government pf the day, given its ongoing moves to either co-opt or destroy by blackops the other wannabees.

  10. leytenian,

Watch how the events unfold. Then we will know.

Am keeping my ears close to the ground.

  11. leytenian says:

    karlpopper

I doubt if they can raise the level of discourse in policies, laws, and developments if they will only mouth moralities reinforced from their own faith and advocacy.

you mean to say that policies, laws and developments are the sole job description of the president? what’s the purpose of congress? justice court and the executive departments?

  12. Primer C. Pagunuran karlpopper says:

    leytenian,
Offhand, you will agree with me that the two other branches of government you mentioned were never left to their own devices.

If they were so, it would have been a beautiful world.

But I sure doubt whether an entirely fictitious ticket like a Panlilio-Pandaca tandem can set with skill the direction policies, laws, or developments should take.

In other words, as early as now, they must be able to present their agenda/platform since I am not of those who will decide on the mere say so that this is a priest, this is an auditor.

History tells us that corruption has never been really addressed – never – even when those leaders believed can change the system were in fact voted.

    No madam.

We need more than that. I go for Ping on that count, that is just my idea.

  13. Primer C. Pagunuran karlpopper says:

To me, I find it naive for Panlilio to have to go to Camp Crame x number of times to have his request for the transfer of a provincial PNP chief acted upon.

    Was it ever acted upon?

Inexperience simply means, you don’t get things done. Maybe BF is a better option on that note.

  14. Primer C. Pagunuran karlpopper says:

Suppose the best and worst scenario is new government where there are no – GMA holdovers, push-overs, left-overs?

To achieve that, as a first step, there must just be one opposition against whom GMA anoints from the administration – or a two-way match?

    Think about that.

  15. leytenian says:

    KP,
honestly, i have no idea how this country can break the chain of corruption, conflict of interest and the unwillingness to do the right thing.

Asking for donation is equivalent to asking for help. He can be naive but if we have to consider his strategy of management, asking can be listening. That skills of collecting the support from his people is the concept of teamwork. Let’s do it together or together we can make a difference.

This country has never understood the concept of teamwork. it’s been “kanya kanya” all the time. he can be a good president. At least we know he can be humble and honest. He’s PR might be superior than his other skills that he can easily influence the whole team to do the right thing. Of course, there’s a lot of things to consider. I already like his initiative.

  16. That’s the direction I am going.

What I am chewing on is how a Panlilio-Padaca tandem will impact of the opposition where there no shortage of wannabees but a surfeit of either winnables or genuine reform-for-the-nation aspirants.

There are even elements fixated on an Estrada Restoration.

  17. brian jay says:

I think inexperience does not equate to getting things done. He already did something for which all this spark is about.

Perhaps he may have no clue about the formalities but i’m sure he knew and understands what he wants. And that what he wants is the what Filipinos want.

Presidents deserves the advice of genuises in every field. My only hope is that he could pinopint the best of the best in their fields to head his agencies.

Policies and decision-making constitutes most of the President’s work and he is accountable for every decision he makes this time, to every pinoy who puts a peso to his candidacy and not to entities that drives the focus of this country.

  18. @ kp,

Sir let me make it clear lest other misunderstand the post… the Panlilio-Padaca tandem has until November 30 to file its certificate of candidacy… so as Panlilio would probably call it… he and his potential running mate are in their “PERIOD OF DISCERNMENT.”

We as Filipinos should all be, if we want positive change.

To the query about the FV collective coming out with any formal endorsement I don’t think that will happen.

  19. Primer C. Pagunuran karlpopper says:

Good to know there is no single currency for FV although most anyone we talk about here have been given the free rub.

  20. kp we are such a cynical/jaded bunch… the contributors and regular commenters and while I know the wannabees’ handlers closely track FV… they will surely be naive to think we can be co-opted. :)

  21. Primer C. Pagunuran karlpopper says:

    great Ding!

  22. Juwan_D - Farewell to the Master Rapper says:

“The ticket is a pair of inexperienced individuals who just might need more advisers than they themselves can govern.”

The only inexperience former president we had was cory aquino…panlilio and padaca are incumbent governors of their respective provinces…what experience are you talking about? experience to run a country? who has that experience? former presidents I suppose…ERAP IS THE ONLY FORMER PRESIDENT WHO IS STILL WILLING TO REGAIN THE HIGHEST POST TAKEN AWAY FROM HIM…

SO karlpopper…what experience are you talking about???? YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN POLITICS??? OH YEAH..THE OTHER CANDIDATES HAVE BEEN PLAYING TH GAME FOR SO MANY YEARS ALREADY..THEY IN FACT INHERITED THEIR POSTS FROM THEIR GRADFATHERS…PERO ANO ANG NAGAWA NILA SA BANSA??? ANO ANG NAGAWA NILA PARA MAISAAYOS ANG PAMUMUHAY SA PILIPINAS??? ANG SAGOT AY WALA!!!!!!!

SO ANONG EXPERIENCE ANG SINASABI MO?

AH ALAM KO…EXPERIENCE SA PAGPAPAIKOT NG BATAS…EXPERIENCE SA PANGUNGURAKOT AT PANLOLOKO NG MAMAYANG PILIPINO…EXPERIENCE NG KAWALAN NG PAGMAMAHAL SA BANSANG PILIPINAS…

    EXPERIENCE MUKHA MO!!!

  23. Nick says:

We’ll let others endorse candidates. Individual Writers can endorse their own candidates, but FV as a whole will remain non-partisan.

@Juwan, actually, I do share your point, that we shouldn’t be so jaded, that we would be willing to let go of a candidate just because he’s “inexperienced”. I agree, that the fact that he’s not entangled in our political system is actually a positive that I think voters would be willing to vote for..

  24. Primer C. Pagunuran karlpopper says:

    juwan,
What 5 great things Panlilio has done for Pampanga and its people as governor that merits his being president?

After you are able to answer that, let us wait for the next survey to register its findings in terms of his winnability.

Hilaw na hilaw pa sila juwan.

  25. Primer C. Pagunuran karlpopper says:

It isn’t yet a game of no options.

The so-called PPP has been erected in our political landscape even before the conditions upon which his acceptance of any endorsement are fully satisfied.

Has anybody here forgot about those conditionalities that would compel Panlilio to run for president?

In the meantime, the whole idea is just floated. For what comes around, goes around.

  26. Juwan_D says:

    karlpopper,

and what 5 great things have the experience politicians done for this country? and while you are trying to figure that our, ask yourself the worst things these clowns have done to our country? corruption, corruption, corruption and corruption…and these are the experienced politicians you are talking about.

  29. Danilo says:

    Will the Panlillo-Padaca ticket fly?

Seems to me anything is possible from that province. Look at Lito Lapid. Look at the mole on the president and tell me, is that Pampanggas best?

  30. Erichan says:

It would be an advantage to Panlilio if he cuts clean with the priesthood so that he will no longer be dictated by Vatican on the issue of Family Planning which is one of the causes of poverty in our country. With regard to his management acumen, think of Cory at the time she assumed presidency. She was not even a barangay captain or a city mayor and yet she finished her term albeit she committed a lot of blunders. So why Panlilio presidency is impossible? It is better than sticking to “trapos politicos”. In fact my only worry is his attachment to Catholic Church which many policies are outdated and will become hindrance to country’s progress.

  31. jcc says:

    People;

You must have received an email too from Panllio/Padaca team. I answered the email.

    Dear Gov. Panlilio;

I received an email from Atty. Eirene Aguila about your plan to run for President with Grace as your running mate. Please define yourself to us. Why do you think the Filipino people should trust you with this most influential and most important position of the land. What makes you different from other politicians?

What is your vision for the country? Do you have what it takes to make this country great while all others have failed in that quest?

To summarize my concern: ARE YOU SUPERMAN?

    Thank you
    JOSE C. CAMANO

  32. Juwan_D - Farewell to the Master Rapper says:

    jcc,

I always admired your posts here in FV, in fact I admire almost if not all of them.

But this time, I dont really feel that same admiration…why are you so negative about the person? Why so negative about the capabilities of panlilio?

He surely is not superman…and he surely is not a trapo as well. Your questions are very valid and sarcastic at the same time…

if we, the Filipino people will ignore him because he is not superman and instead vote once again the usual clowns we’ve been having as leaders in this country..what will happen to us? if we keep on waiting for the SUPERMAN you are talking about…what will happen to us? good for you if you already have decided to stay in the US for good…what about us who have been waiting for the right time to come home, work and live in our beloved country? Of course it will take long years to see the reforms..but at least, by not having the usual clowns and trapos, we can start feeling and seeing the hope we’ve always been waiting.

if you voted or defended GMA in your posts here in FV over the opposition…why cant you consider panlilio of becoming the next president?

are you SUPERMAN jcc? or do you happen to know any SUPERMAN?

  33. jcc says:

    Juwan,

Why are you showing your predisposition to Panlilio/Padaca team? :) I wish the Governor to tell us that he is not a superman but maybe he has a superman vision for the country, and he needs the people to rally around him to do a superman job? – i will answer the question that way – if i am her publicist, no sarcasm, no negativity in it. just a simple straight talk Juwan… :)

  34. Juwan_D - Farewell to the Master Rapper says:

my apoligies then…I took your message in a different way.

As of now I am throwing my support on the guy, because of the obvious reason that he is the only one among the rest who hasnt been inton politics for long….but the moment he make deals and partnerships with the trapos and their political party…I will easily retract my support and backoff.

  35. Procopio says:

We are the Voters. With an honest election. We
will determine who will be our leaders.

You need logistical support in an election. But,
things can happen unexpectedly. Especially we
have an electronic voting system. And, we have
the Texting, Internet and the Blogosphere. Bloggers may be a factor in this election. Who knows.

Why are the Aspirants inserting themselves
in the Bogosphere hiring Fake Bloggers ?

  36. jcc says:

    no big deal Juwan.. :)

  37. Renato Pacifico says:

Procopio, this election depends on the coverage of our media practitioners’ biases and prejudices and who owns them. Let be wary that our media practitioners are oblivious to these. They give coverages to the ticket who gives them the most booze and free chow. They flock like flies to feces.

They don’t do in-depth research on the characters of the candidates. If they did, they conveniently withdraw their smackdown because it’s uncomfortable for them interviewing these very same candidates that they reported on.

  38. Primer C. Pagunuran karlpopper says:

This is another sandcastle that crumbles to its feet at the first wave.

This is becoming an empty myth – nothing good comes out of it unless he is the genie in the bottle?

  39. Laling says:

Ang masasabi ko lang po ay ipinagpalit ni Panlilio ang malaking
karangalan maglingkod sa lumikha ng universe at doon magselbe
sa maliit na bansa dahil lamang sa temporal na pangangailangan
ng tao. Even if Panlilio solves the corruption problem of the whole
planet, what accomplishment can be offer before the eyes of the
    Creator.
