Psst… Get a load of this:
“Be not afraid; God will do the rest”
- Cory Aquino; Inquirer.net, 28th November 2008
But of course he will, Madame.

Maybe not as strong as the last time, but the winds of Ocho-Ocho “Revolution” are blowing by. The usual cast of characters are emerging from under their rocks, and guess what: good times and a bonanza of high-eyeball-traffic await traditional media and owners of blogs and websites as a tsunami of quintessentially-Pinoy mediocre thinking is on its way to wash ashore!
In light of this, let’s re-visit our recipe of the usual ingredients we use to bake the next Pinoy-style circus.
:D An “outrage” that captures the popular sentiment. CHECK!
:D An arms race of “statements” from various “concerned” groups on the latest “outrage”. Abangan…
:D Trial by media. Lock n load, folks get ready to rock n roll!
Whatever the outcome, whatever action we decide to take, one thing’s for sure we will either (a) see another rockin’ political fiesta, or (b) muddle through another limpdick spectacle. Either way, let’s try not to be too predictable for a change and live up to our world-renowned pwede na yan-ic and ningas cogon-ic predispositions. After all, there is a bedrock of learning that we need to recognise:
So, in effect, Filipinos would have not accepted their duly constituted institutions and duly elected officials as the official authorities on the “Truth” yet would have easily relied on a street mob in yet another Fiesta Revolution to dictate and uphold said “Truth”. This is tantamount to arbitrarily voiding Congress and allowing street mobs to call the shots from hereon. That it seems is what many Filipinos want. However, Filipinos have a track record of never going the whole nine yards when it comes to “revolution” (or anything else for that matter). Thus we have nothing more than Fiesta Revolution — so much hate and tunnel-vision, but none of the conviction and wherewithal to go for the gold. The fact is, even in the happy sport of “revolution”, Filipinos exhibit their world-renowned mediocrity.
And so, my fellow bloggers; are we gonna step up and exhibit a bit of world-class thinking FOR A CHANGE?
Or are we gonna stay in our comfy zones and proliferate in such undifferentiated volumes as to devalue?
Looking back at the insightful words of, well, moi back in 2005:
The same hollow-headed challenges ring forth: “What next after the impeachment bid is dead?” Er, isn’t this the part where we simply live with it and get on back to work? A democracy has never been known to deliver instant results. There are trade-offs to granting power to the people. One of these trade-offs is due process. Not happy with your representative? Societies that do not pretend to be democracies will simply guillotine an unsavory public official. Societies that consider themsleves “democratic” will wait for the next election.
Be wary of the yellowing script to be read out by the usual cast of characters that many will be chattering about across my fearless forecast of a deluge of Shawarma discussion:
:o Cory Aquino
:o Our venerable celibate men in robes
:o Our political “experts”
A famous Chinese physician struggling to express himself in English with a strong Chinese accent would have diagnosed us as suffering from Ed Zechery disease:
The trouble with Pinoys is that we make Ed Zechery the same mistakes over and over again.
With that let’s go forth folks and blog. The future looks bright!

Benign0 for president! We love you Benign0!
some of those celibate men in robes are not.
Benign0
You are quite out of touch. Laos na ang Ocho-Ocho,
Ayos na ang Buto-Buto!
Yeah, but ocho-ocho was uso back in 2005 when Edsa “revolutions” first degenerated into the ridiculous.
Perhaps if another such “revolution” happens this year or next, we can start calling them buto-buto “revolutions”. :D
Note that one thing remains constant — and it’s my continued enclosure of the word “revolution” in quotes. That’s because our concept of it and the way we apply it in our society has never truly done justice to the true sense of the word.
si benign00 talaga oo… napanood mo lang sa PINOY CHANNEL ang otso otso ginamit mo na laban sa PILIPINO. isa kang mapanirang uri. wala ka nang sinasbi sa amin kundi puro negative. dapat i report ka sa bureau of immigration at i declare na persona non grata!!! YOU ARE PRETENDING TO BE A FILIPINO!!! PROVE THAT YOU ARE A FILIPINO!!! ni hindi ka pa ata tuli!!!
Benign0
What about the “revolution” schemed our very own Queso de Bola commandos in Holland?
I am hoping that the Revolution is for anti corruption , poverty alleviation and for employment. That should be the theme not just to remove Gloria. If the revolution’s goal is to remove Gloria, the Senate will have another fiesta. Why is it always at the expense of people’s emotion? The Filipino people is again in denial- not knowing that corruption exist in the Senate and the business sectors. A new president with the same Stone age of system management will not move our country forward. The cycle will repeat by itself after another 6 years. Another sad story and another revolution.
The ocho ocho is now a “giling giling. :)
me time ka pa pala manood ng WOWOWEE Leytenian kala ko TITO,VIC at JOEY lang.
This guy AsiaWest made this comment on my site which I thought was pretty spot-on:
How many presidents do we need to change and how many useless discussions about the who’s and what’s of presidentiables, and how many more ocho-ocho revolutions do we need to endure before we realise this simple reality?
Check out what is made out to be “headline” news on the Inquirer here.
“First in a salvo of protests” daw. :D
Mga Pinoy media nga naman talaga. A broadsheet like the Inquirer reporting about the noises made by a bunch of has-been celebrities and their contingent of attack-nuns. Priceless.
It gets better:
Pathetic.
They should learn a bit from the lessons of 2005. Back then they had the Sex-Bomb dancers gyrating on a stage set up in Ayala. Even more important, street vendors were there in throngs as well.
No fiesta is complete without food and ocho-ocho dancers. Apparently Jun Lozada’s presence wasn’t enough in this instance. :D
Benny,
AsiaWest’s comment is spot on.
But where we disagree is that I see the adaptation taking place as we speak.
Corruption has ceased to become an issue. The question contituents ask when their congressman gets his pork is: Where’s my cut? Balato naman diyan sir. Balita ko, naka excel spreadsheet pa daw ang lagayan ngayon.
Armchair Activism has evolved into Blogging.
Macho beer talk has evolved into Starbucks pa-cuteness.
People power has evolved into impeachment by a minority of “intelligent people” who seem to believe that they know what is best for this “democracy” even though the masses (as ignorant as they are) voted these same congressmen that have become an “inconvenience” to the mentioned “intelligent people.”
Evolution is taking place, we are evolving into the Dodo.
KG,
Honestly, I don’t watch much TV. It just so happened that it was thanksgiving that I get to spend time with my brother’s family who has a pinoy channel. There I saw the giling giling :)
Kung baga, paatras ang asenso. :D
