Wolfram Alpha: Going to be Bigger than Google

Wolfram Alpha IBM-APPLE

Wolfram Alpha IBM-APPLE

I was a skeptic. So when WolframAlpha (from the makers of Mathematica) went live a few hours ago, I tried it out.

oh, boy. Was I amazed.

Try “searching” IBM Apple and boom!

Wolfram Alpha IBM-APPLE

Wolfram Alpha IBM-APPLE

It comes out with relevant data. Market Cap, P/E, Employees, Shares, dividend, Heck, it got recent returns!

These guys, if they play it right, can be bigger than Google.

I published a similar post on my tumblr.

    Some sort of ads…

Very interesting. I went to the website but they have list of products which I will probably be buying since I am always interested in statistics and I am in the chemical/petroleum engineering universe. What is the web address for this search tool?

  3. rom says:

well, bigger for a select group, I suppose. but certainly not for the non-specialist crowd.

I searched for “barely legal” but it overloaded the system.

oops! when i tried it, it said it exceeded its test capacity…

Short concise, zero literary calories and fat. Informativeness: Journalistic scoop! I’ll try Wolfram. Readability is 5 star. Can be understood by Manny Pacquiao, likely, sharp reach and penetration.

Eyes? Intsik! Must be wealthy! Got the eagle eye for prey can sniff money all the way from COMELEC toilet

  7. I’m still dependent on Yahoo!Finance. I can expand it. Search for quote. Historical trend up to 5 years. I’ll try this, though.

Impressive! But Google is an immensely powerful brand. It even managed to get itself in the lexicon (“if you want to look it up, go ‘google’ it”). It might be another case of a superior product being trumped by superior brand/marketing (like how Microsoft beat Apple back in the old days)…

yep. i have to agree. branding-wise “WolframAlpha” is a mouthful. If apple was into this kind of thing, they should buy it. but they’re not.

bigger than google? (as in they’ll achieve a “verb” status in the future, i.e., wolframing?)

i welcome wolfram alpha not as a rival but as an addition to google…a complement to google to be exact.

i’ll link-search with google, i’ll compute with wolfram alpha.

    some samples i tried:

…here’s to a happy wolframing (or whatever monicker will be christened) days ahead. cheers!

There’s also the possibility that google can:

      1 – Buy Wolfram out

2 – Upgrade its engine, put its financial muscle into offering a similar service.

      • cocoy says:

        Dear Steve Jobs,

You guys got 30 B in the bank. You make hardware and software for the Crazy Ones. Please buy Wolfram. it would be a nice addition to 8-Core Mac Pro.

        with respect,

      • BongV BongV says:

Or Microsoft or even Yahoo .. or Facebook! :D

      • cocoy says:

i don’t think facebook will know what to do with wolfram. microsoft or yahoo too. maybe google. but i’m hesitant to say google should buy these guys. the goog is too big as it is.

    • cocoy says:

cool, no? :D love that stat data. SWS will disagree though. hehe

    • baycas says:

btw, google bought trendalyzer back in 2007 to beef up its engine. coincidentally, google launched in april of this year an “added search power to public data.” more to come, the google official blog says.
